Excellent. Really brought it home on the last verse. In the original, the singer has this magical roundness in her vocal energy, it swirls the sounds into a vortex of warmth. This song evokes a cascading motion that makes you want to dance, when sung well.
Thank you for honoring the memory of this great song and performer. Could listen to/watch your videos all day long. You fill my heart with love and joy.♥
Such a beautiful song, probably my favourite from the film although it is often overlooked. If you are not English you have definitely nailed the pronunciation and diction (and I am English)! Yet another wonderful performance.thank you.
Your beautiful and enchanting performance sent shivers down my spine. Wonderful too that you have been able to sing to Sally Ann Howes original orchestral playback from the film ... the icing on the cake! No more fitting tribute could have been made which brought tears to my eyes. And walking away from the camera your spirits dramatically up lifted at the close of the song just as Sally Ann had done in the movie was a lovely touch. Since seeing the film as a child in 1968 Sally Anne has always been a constant in my life never more so than at Christmas time when Chitty is given its annual outing on television across the world capturing the imaginations of every new generation in its wake, so the shock of her passing has hit me as if she were my very own mother. Sally Ann, you will always be in our hearts ... RIP
Thank you for your kind words, Marcus. I was always moved by her performance when I was little. Her voice was one of a kind, and I’m so glad that you enjoyed my rendition! ❤️
The tough time got tougher with the death of my wife, and I can, somewhat painfully, identify with at least the "lonely man" part of the song. But still it gives me solace to listen to your voice. Thank you.
your voice is incredible !Such feeling, emotion, and natural voice you have ( I am a singer myself, so i know ) May I ask where you got the baking track ? With kind regards, Maja
Oh, my goodness, what a fantastically faithful performance! The academic in me would be interested to know if you were actively using the older vocal techniques SAH would have been trained on (1910s and onwards) or if it was more from watching her performance - not a criticism, in the slightest, but I’ll be even more amazed if you were able to get it so exactly right just by replicating. Also I very, VERY much approve of your little indulgence at 2:53; it takes a real musician to truly understand what moments like that mean in a score. There’s just nothing quite like the Sherman Bros. writing genius! Also, also, I’m willing to bet I know where you got that isolated soundtrack from - such a shame there isn’t more of the music available in this format
Thank you, Peter! I appreciate your kind and thoughtful comment. I grew up idolizing this song and Sally Ann’s performance, and while I do have some vocal training, I would say it was mainly by rewatching and listening to her performance that helped me the most. And about that ‘indulgence’ at 2:53 - I have pictured myself in that scene for many years and that was me fulfilling that little dream of mine of finally recreating it (and also me trying to be SAH)! About the soundtrack - I actually isolated it myself using a track editing software! I couldn’t find the right track anywhere so I figured I would do it myself. Thank you again for taking the time to write such a nice compliment!
