Axl Rose was from the Midwest and he grew up in church choirs and he has a six octave range and he would screw with the choir director by singing all kinds of different parts and messing it up intentionally to play with the conductor's head so it one point he'll be singing Bass the next minute he'll be singing soprano. Coming from a church background yourself I think you'd appreciate that.
i used to be in love with a girl. She didn't noticed me.... listened to this song 100 times in a row, gave me peace, and realise i had to be patienced. She is my wife now. GNR helped me trough me difficult childhood many times
Axl Rose has amazing vocals! He has mastered his craft with vast diversity. There is definitely noone else that can sing these songs like he can! Thanks for appreciating great music and trying to break it down to understand it better!❤
Axl is detailed in his music, to a fault. His desire to control almost every aspect is one of the many rifts between him and the band. It's incredible because he is OCD about it, and such detail driven home is edging on a perfect song.
Perfect song for your 20k. This is one of GNR's most beautiful songs that had couples falling in love for many long years. You have entered into the lighter side of the Power Ballad subgenre, and it's a whole different thing that happened during the 80's and 90's. A short list in the Power Ballad subgenre include ... Poison - Every rose has its thorn Bryan Adams - Heaven Warrant - Heaven Mötley Crüe - Home Sweet Home (1985) Slaughter - Fly To The Angels (1990) Boston - Amanda Cinderella - Don’t Know What You Got (Til It’s Gone) Whitesnake - Is This Love Damn Yankees - High Enough
i love so many of the songs on this list. Very happy to see Cinderella and Slaughter on there! and I do agree with you on your opinion of this song, definitely one of my favorite acoustics
Gave you a sub, kid. Even though you say it "wasnt lit" Ill cut you a break. One of my favorite songs of all time. GnR is the only band that I can actually remember where I was when I first heard them.
It's a ballad, not necessarily a "sad" song. The more you dive into 80's rock/metal you'll realize that EVERY band has at least 1 hit ballad. Some will be slower & softer than others, but it was almost a formula for bands at the time. Release a cd & the 1st single is a banger. 2nd single will be a ballad. 3rd single will go back to being a rocker. Literally every band has ballads. Some ballads are break up songs & some are love songs. For some bands their ballad would wind up being their only hit, but it was pretty much required to release a ballad on every cd/album. Bon Jovi is pretty much the king of epic/hit love ballads. Jon Bon Jovi used to joke that some men buy their wives Tiffany jewelry, he writes his wife hit love songs.
There's a 40 year old aphorism that says "metal bands write the best ballads." I think in part it's because a lot of metal bands had really, REALLY good singers (thinking of Geoff Tate from Queensryche as an example), and musicians enjoy showcasing their full array of skills. You're right, there was a formula to what got released and in what order.
A great example of a "Power Ballad" ... this was 80's hairband Rock... killer songs that make you want to break shit followed up by a ballad .. one for the guys and one for the ladies .. lol they knew how to work it
To kind of answer your question, they are considered heavy metal and/or hard rock depending on who you ask. They can do acoustic songs as well. This was the lead single off their EP Lies, the follow up to their debut album Appetite for Destruction. The EP had basically two sides, an all acoustic new material side and the other was basically re-releasing their EP they had out before they broke with Appetite for Destruction.
The other side as you say was actually made to sound like a live recording but it wasn’t and had two covers out of the four tracks nice boys by rose tattoo and mama kin by aerosmith
Yes Axl Rose is the singer n slash is the lead guitarist... ALL Rock bands, metal, hair metal whatever had their 'usual' sound n then had ballads...that's what THIS is, a ballad, like a smooth love song💖🌹
Once Kiss came out with "Beth" every hard rock act for the next twenty years had to come up with a signature rock ballad. GNR had a few of 'em. This is their second power ballad after "Sweet Child O' Mine"..
5:00 Because they're amazing. It's great to see a guy who listens to rap and enjoys rock ecc. Usually rap listeners (those who I know) hate this "old music", I'm happy you like it, YOU HAVE TO REACT TO MY MICHELLE!!!
One of my favorites. Izzy straddlin wrote this, rhythm guitarist, the true soul of this band. Talented group at their best, wish they stuck together longer.
I see Guns & Roses and I click! Please do more Guns & Roses and more Motley Crue, these are my two favorite bands! You have to do Welcome To The Jungle and for Motley Crue I recommend Wild Side, Primal Scream and Home Sweet Home!
Appetite for Destruction (1987) 10/10 their heaviest record GNR Lies (1988) Controversy album, half live, half acoustic, only 8 songs Use Your Illusion I & II (1991) Incorporated more blues and classic rock into their sound The Spaghetti Incident (1993) covers album, last album to feature Slash & Duff Everyone left the band, only Axl remained but he became a recluse and took $14M and 16 years to release Guns N Roses next album 'Chinese Democracy' (2008) Slash and Duff are not apart of the album, it's a pretty good album Slash and Duff returned in 2016 :)
Since you're on a GNR roll, a cool back to back one would be Don't Cry both the original AND the alternate lyrics. Some other really good ones are Nighttrain, You Could Be Mine, and Mr. Brownstone
@@leathertophat2705 Love the song, but as far as a pump up jam aka lit, I don't know I'd put it in that category....even though its definitely not a slow jam LOL.
One of my favorite gnr songs. We really get to hear the softer side of Axl Roses voice. And the change in his voice and melody near the end. You are so smart and observant! Yes Slash on acoustic! Always large black hair and top hat often! This song may not be lit in the way you mean, but it was a song to chill to again and again and comforted thousands in our generation! So frickin real bro! ❤️😎
In the 80s it was about the music and song! This song show cases GnRs talent. The went on to do more ballads. One of the many reason they where and still are so loved is each song spoke to you!

I love Patience. it's one of those songs I sing when I want to comfort myself. If you're reacting to Guns and Roses you need to listen to Estranged! One of their most beautiful and well-written songs.
I think it's time for "its so easy" by guns n roses. It's got a pretty nice music video to it too😉😉 and even "don't cry" by gnr. You will not be disappointed with any of their songs. Their all legendary
When I was young and couldn’t sleep, I would put on my cassette tape of this song. It was like a lullaby…It calmed my mind and I was asleep by the end of the song.
In this song both Slash, Izzy and Duff is playing acoustic guitar :) For the classic Line-up It's Axl Rose on the Vocal. Slash on the guitar, with long black curly hair (OFTEN with a hat and a cigarette). Duff is the blond bassist. Izzy is the other guitar player and have shorter and straighter hair. The drummer is Steven Adler.
This song actually has three guitars in it. Slash plays the lead riffs, then Izzy and Duff are playing acoustic rhythm chords behind it. Duff is the band's bass player but there's actually no bass at all in this track. :)
LOL Guns N Roses are incredibly awesome. I learned the song on acoustic about a year ago not that it matters but I'm sure someone mentioned it. The lead guitarist is half African-American. I'm a guitar player and he is one of my heroes
Crazy hilarity: "Whistlin'?" I'm with you on that one. Deep insight: "Is the girl named Patience?" Hey, I was in college when this song came out and everyone loved it and anyone who played the guitar learned this song ASAP - and yet it never occurred to me that this could be a song about a girl named Patience. That's pretty cool. At the peak of hair metal, late 1980s to early 1990s (just before grunge came in) your band had to have a power ballad. G 'n' R were masters of this, and this song might be their best example. Why? Who knows. You needed to "show your softer side" is a negative way of looking at it. But more positively, maybe it was just intended to show your musical range. Still some pretty sucky ballads came out around the same time: "Ev'ry Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Home Sweet Home." Neither one by G 'n' R, and come to think of it, Home Sweet Home isn't a horrible song. But G 'n' R knew how to perform to this audience, for sure.
@9:05, yes it was, he had the lyrics sheet in his hand because he hadn't learned them all yet!!✌ But you're learnin'! Great job so far JoJo! I've been watching your dad's channel for quite a while now...glad to see you doin your thing now!!👍💖💕

Yep. That's Slash.
That's the most accurate description anyone ever gave my friend 😅
