Thanks man. I just got this Onkyo m-501 Amp working. Chanel A right speaker wasn't working. opened the amp, tapped the relay, switch from A to B like 10 times and guess the relay got unstuck and is now working great. you're the man :)
the solution of hitting the relay worked great. i have an onkyo TX-SR503, and the right channel stopped working today. smacked the relay a bit and it works fine
Thank you very much for this, my relay went out a few years ago, and I just got to replacing it, and the jumper wires I used in the mean time, only to find it'd been discontinued. This part worked great.
The speaker button in the upper left corner was just a speaker on and off switch on the TX-SV313PRO. That receiver had no option for remote speakers (B pair). Without a service manual or your model in front of me, I'd just be guessing. If that switch is logic controlled, I'd expect there would be a relay somewhere to control the B speakers.
question... i have the TX-906 (20 years old) it seems that the board is the same... my problem.. both chanels work but the output balance is not ok... is there a way to ajust this ? tnks :)
Some receivers must have A speakers connected for B speakers to work because it series connects them internally to keep impedance from being too low. It still should work in B only mode without A speakers connected. If your receiver parallel connects the A and B speakers via relays, the B relay could be bad, stuck or not getting current to its coil.
I have the same stereo here he just worked on lol, had to see it myself, sounds good and still fine....well the motor starting to go in the volume knob but o well it still works :)
Can someone please help i have a Onkyo HT-R390 and it really doesn't turn on and all the fuses are ok and the relay doesn't click when its plugged in what can be the problem of my receiver ?
I didn't take mine with similar symptoms apart just yet. I don't hear a typical relay click when sound appears/disappears. I noticed that if I rotate volume knob back & forth I do get sound okay sometimes. I heard also a recommendation to start with cleaning volume control potentiometer with DeOxit cleaning lube. Did you do this step just in case?
+sawadiy I did not clean the volume pot. as it worked fine with the new relay. Try tapping the relay casing to see if there is any effect. Still might be wise to change it in these units as it is a common problem.
JohnAudioTech i like this video i own the same model got mine new in 94 saved my money up $349.99 +tax was alot for a high school kit but i did it mine still work have a matched model cassette deck tw-rw313 that was $199.99 a big price back then for me
I have something similar going on. I have a Onkyo TX-V940. Going by the online service manual, I believe the relay is called RL-801 and the part number is nrl-2p2a-dc24-086. Is this the same part you replaced?
+BionicMerlin I got the wrong number off my service manual. It's the same type of DPST 24v you replaced. It was a Takamisawa VB24MBU and I'm changing 2 of them. :)
Great video! Question, I have the same exact receiver and sort of the same problem but one channel is crazy quiet and the other is just dead. I haven't opened it yet, but did you have any thoughts?
Completely dead, no lights, nothing? Not familiar with this receiver, but should have a small transformer/power supply to keep the logic operating for the remote control. Start by checking if this supply outputs power.
Hello I am looking for more than a year to supply transformer ONKYO TX - SR804E . Can somebody could use some help in buying this transformer Regards Sorry for my English, I use Google Translator

Always good to hear when my videos help someone out. Thanks for watching!
Thanks you got e to get my troublesome TX906 working. I am also working on upgrading the old fashioned binding posts to new high end 4 way ones!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad to have helped.

i have the service manual but can it be the relay that is causing not to turn on ?

i have the 5v and 12v thats it but still wont open and the relay doesn't click what it can be the problem ?
It could be the relay has poor contact making one channel weaker. Could also be a failing part inside or even the source signal is not balanced.
What relay to get for Onkyo M-501 ?

It could be the relay but could be another problem. Without having the unit in front of me to diagnose, I'd just be guessing.
Totally fair. Where are you located out of curiosity?

Based on those radio stations, you must be near me.
Dover gerold Near Dayton, OH?
JohnAudioTech yes sir! Love your vids. I have a massive collection of old speakers and tube amps. Love this stuff ;)
Sounds like the control logic is nonfunctional. You would have locate/purchase a service manual.
