That intro with Mrs TT is brilliant (and very true!) And my thoughts on seat reservations follows on from that - I have a run of bad luck with them putting me either next to screaming kids or drunk people, so tend to doddle off to the unreserved carriage looking for a bit more peace and quiet :)
🎵🎵"Didnt we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor"🎶🎶 Is now rattling around my head ! Seat reservations ! When i usedto catch trains from London to Leicester, folk who had sat in 'my' seat ,did apologise and move , and im not that scary😊 so maybe you just had some grumpy folk ? Great video again Tim 👏 👍
Glad you were on the right side for the sea views. The 805s are probably the best of the 80x series used by various operators although I haven't tried the 807s yet. As regards reservations recently I was travelling on XC from Leeds to Derby and two reservations had been issued for the same seat, taking the other person's advice I wandered up to the train manager and was promptly given a first class upgrade.
Never get tired of the views on this line Tim and it looks like you had a beautiful day albeit on a super-busy train. Seat reservations, well I never have an issue with them as I take myself out of the equation so to speak. As a solo traveller (most of the time), I don’t want Avanti telling me where I’ve got to sit. They will normally always put me in a completely full carriage sitting next to a complete stranger, when there’s an unreserved carriage on the same train that’s half empty. Needless to say, I always head for that area of the train instead. Much, much better. Great vid mate 😊👍
Hi Tim (+Mrs TT), great to see another upload. The new Avanti trains look really nice! I'm having my first journey on the Evero set on Saturday. In terms of seat reservations I often get trouble but being disabled I have assistance to my seat and I leave it to the member of assistance staff to tell them to shift! It is frustrating when someome sits in your seat but I'd advise getting the train manager to get them to shift if they refuse after a polite request. Summertime is a night mare with the kids on trains. I'm like you and want to relax but with screaming kids you can't! That's a whole different argument for another day! Lovely views on a lovely train!
If you have reserved seats and can evidence that - kick out the interlopers!! Never had a problem with it or as Mark (Let's Make a Trip) says if you can find an unreserved seat that's better use that instead. But that's a great line for views. Incidentally I am doing both the Coastliner 840 bus and Whitby - Newcastle train later today! Hoping for some good views and a good experience.
The Coastliner 840 was good - especially the last hour as you cross the Moors into Whitby. The scary is spectacular if you have a clear day. Would highly recommend it to you and Mrs Tim's Travels.
Ooh you’re both up my neck of the woods (or where I grew up). Grew up near Crewe and spent most of my summers at my grandparent’s bungalow in Prestatyn (when I was small that is. Not recently since I’m 49 now and live in the states). It’s a gorgeous line and one enjoyed more on a regional TfW train as it’s slower and stops everywhere. Next time you’re down that way, I recommend the Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog train and hopping off at Betws y Coed. On the issue with the seat reservations: a quiet word with the train manager might fix it. That said, I did Euston-Crewe in February with Avanti (my first train journey in the UK in 20 years) and found my seat occupied on a full train. Was told they were told to sit there by the train manager. I sat by the lav for 1hr 50m and vowed never to go with Avanti again 😂
Fantastic video Tim, what a stunning evening you had. There is nothing worse than a train full of people causing unnecessary noise. And as for the people in your seats, i bet they were either in the right seats but wrong carriage or didn't have a reservation at all! You had much better luck than I did with the 805s. I attempted to catch one from Crewe to Holyhead and there was a signal failure at Prestatyn so it got cancelled at Crewe before it even moved. Later in the day I made it to Holyhead to catch one back and the two units which were coupled together wouldn't communicate with each other so it was declared a failure 🥺😆
Cheers mate. I hope you manage to to the 805s, I'd love to get your opinion. I was impressed. As for the seats, it's frustrating but I need to be more assertive too.
Nice one mate. Fantastic views, I really must visit that area. Shame that some people are too selfish to move from a reserved seat. Good to see bimode trains in use, though it would be better to electrify the route, I'm sure it's worth it.
I was really impressed with the 805s. Am I correct in thinking that the line is going to be electrified or have I made that up? 🤔 As for the seats, I need to be a bit more assertive.
What a cracking video. You do spoil Mrs Tim's Travels, you take her to all the nicest of places 🤣 First off Crewe, then not to be out done, Bangor! 😂 To be fair though, the line along the A55 there, is one of my favourite trips. Even the drive is stunning!
Won’t the conductor evict the interlopers? Let me assure you that if I did it, with my luck they’d not only evict me but probably throw me off of the train! Not that I’d do such a thing….

Thanks for watching mate. Yes I think it’ll be Coach U for us from now on. That journey from Edinburgh-Crewe was wild.

Thanks for watching mate. It's probably about me not wanting to create a fuss and just moan about it under my breath. 😂
A very beautiful journey, I must say. Nice coastal scenery.
It was lovely, the good weather certainly helped.
Glad you were on the right side for the sea views.

That's a good result! I need to be more assertive in these situations! 😂
Excellent- nice to see your take on these new trains. The seats look to be an improvement as they appear to have plumped for the same ones as lumo. 👍
Thanks Johnny. I agree, the seats are a great improvement. I was very impressed by the 805s.

In case you find this helpful. You can oick your desired seat (different from the one booked) on the Avanti website at time of booking.

Thanks so much for watching. I think I need to be a bit more assertive with things like this.
That's a great tip, cheers!
Thanks so much mate. It was my first trip along the line and it did not disappoint.
I'll keep your tip in mind for next time. 👍

@matthewodwyer3615 it sounds fab. I'll add it to the list.

Oh my, that's a dreadful experience!
I'd love to return to this part of Wales, there is so much to explore.

@@Timstravels01 I don't know about electrification, but it certainly should be.
Bangor of a video 😂
😂 thanks mate!

oh and a good argument on a train is great, as long as it doesn't involve yourself 😅
Well, I do try! 😂 Yeah the journey was lovely but I'll leave any further comment there.
Quite! It was something else. Incredibly cringeworthy.
@@Timstravels01 I'm quite sorry I missed that 😅
Honestly, a whole carriage of people was trying to stare into the middle distance, pretending nothing odd was happening. Very British indeed. 😂

Interestingly I didn't see a conductor. Just the crew in the shop. I think I need to be a bit more assertive. 😂
