- Join me as I hike and solo camp in Surrey Hills, UK. My first time camping alone was eventful - you'll see why at the end of the vlog. Was it a fail? Depends how you look at it! On this solo hiking and camping adventure we'll be walking from Guildford to Horsley in beautiful English nature, following a Saturday Walking Club guide.

If you're an aspiring solo female hiker or afraid of camping, I hope this video encourages you to get out there. Big shoutout to @GirlOutdoors whose solo hike and wild camp vlogs inspired me. You go, Girl Outdoors!
This solo hike follows several trails, including the North Downs Way and Horsley Jubilee Walk. I'd love to come back and do the full North Downs Way walk.

Do you like *camping* and would you ever do it solo? 😁⛺️ I can't wait to do it again! PS: The route is linked in the description, as is my tent and my hiking boots ❤️
I actually really enjoyed your blog 🙌🏼 I go wild camping often. Least 5 times a year. No camp sites tho, literally out in the middle of no where. Main rule is LNT “leave no trace” I hope to see your next adventure:)
I plan on going wild camping on my own in the Lake District soon. I have no experience camping, so it should be bloody fun! Maybe some swimming, sunrises and sunsets along the way :)
You should come to Scotland a lot of good trails here
@@andyclasby6387 That’s crazy. I’m on my way right now! Going to Glencoe :)
@@BenRobson123 awwww nice I did the the first 30 miles of west highland way about a month ago
You’re so brave to embark on such a great first solo adventure. Even though you didn’t get to complete the experience your mindset is very inspiring and this is something I am working towards as nature and adventure seems to be the only remedy for my mental health these days. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Lovely video gal! Thank you so much for the lovely shoutout - means a lot :) the woodland looks so lovely back in the spring time
Aww so nice to hear from you - I love your videos!! Thanks for all the great content and continuous inspiration ❤️
Well done Sabina 😍 very proud of you!! The hike looked beautiful!
Thanks so much Christie!! It was amazing - can’t wait to do more 😍⛺️
love how she smiles through the pain!!
Next time take the train to Dartmoor, you can legally wild camp. I'd advise taking a friend as it can be a bit scary the first time on your own but the wide open 'prairie' like grasslands will heal the mind like no other place, it works for me.
this aged well
@@kyloluma The ban was lifted in short order, it's aged fine.
My brother got me into wild camping (in a hammock!) and i love it! Ive been doing lots of walks across the Surry Hills (Hassocks to Brighton) to build up fitness and did my first trial solo camp in Joyden Forest the other week. The goal is to do long trails like the South Downs Way or the West Highland Way camping the whole time, im really excited to do it its so relaxing. Forget camp sites theres to many people and kids just walk off into the hills and poop in the woods to youre hearts content!
I live in henfield and loooove wild camping/hiking/ foraging. Big respect ✊🏼
This girl is Stunning 😍😍😍
It's not just a hikers thing to be courteous and say Hi. Anywhere outside of london, if your eyes where to meet someone elses, then 99% of people would acknowledge you with a high, a nod or/and a smile :)
And indeed this isn't even a London thing! It is merely a big city vs rural society difference, applicable to most countries. Big cities are by their nature quite individualist and isolating. People do not pay attention to other individuals as you are all simply respective ants in the swarming mass going about your business. But in a village of 150 people, a new face in the local pub will not go unnoticed!
I didn't expect such an end😅 i'm sure next time it'll work out well🤗
Taky jsem to nečekala 😂 Moc děkuji, už se těším na další výlet!!
This is the sweetest thing to watch! Its the innocence of hiking in the UK for the first time🥰 I hope you enjoy the rest of your adventures. For your next adventure here, the peak district is an amazing place to explore and from london you can get a train to edale and walk to the campsite (very close by). I've love solo hiking and camping, so would recommended it to anyone!
Great video. You should be proud of yourself for covering all those miles!
Thank you!!! Excited for more hikes once the weather gets a bit warmer ☺️
So cool 👍
I also decided to slip in the forest this summer, I bought everything for camping ⛺️.
But I was afraid to sleep alone in the forest.
But after 2 months of life in Bishops Stortford I definitely see, that it reduced my social anxiety. Now im back to London and I get stressed to be here again, I just want back to forest place like this summer and be happy 😃
Yeah, very fair - I’ve still get to wild camp on my own. But eager to try! And I know what you mean about life in nature vs London. I love London but do think about leaving sometimes for this very reason ☺️
Great vlog. The sort of quality I aspire to. I think this kind of vlog really inspires people to get up off their bums and go do it for themselves.
Thanks Glen, that means a lot! ☺️
Just found your channel and really enjoying it.
I'll be watching more soon
Thanks so much and welcome! 🥰
Awesome video, really enjoyed this xxx
This is awesome. You totally inspired me
Aww I’m glad to hear it 🥰
Well done great video 👍⛺️
The Surrey Hills. A beautiful part of Britain. Thanks for taking us on your journey
Stumbled on your video by chance. This is by far one of the most honest video I have seen in a long time. Great piece of self reflection by the way. All the best.
I am blinded by her beaming personality.
You wont find it in four people combined.
She took me by surprise.
I appreciate her honesty, cheerfulness, sharing her feelings and train of thought.
I think i can relate/mirror her. I dont know her name, yet.
There is something odd about her english style, the echo bears a foreign trace.
Think , her tracking/outdoor camping attempt, is actually regaining her sense of dignity. An empowering reliefing experience. I respect that.
Like her attitude/strategies and insights regarding adversity.
My heart goes out to her.
Girl vs. Globe.
The girl is definitely going to win. Mark my words.
Great honest video where lessons were learned for sure, though definitely not a fail! Keep working at it. Regards Broadlander
Thanks Broadlander! Yeah I’m definitely learning a lot but enjoying the process ☺️
Really enjoyed this so much 😂. Your sense of humour and newness makes me know I can do this too.. by the way, I am nearly 60 and planning my first night alone in a tent ⛺️🥾🥾🌅
So happy to hear that Julie!! And agreed - if I can do it I’m certain you can too 😁 Best of luck with the planning, I hope you l have an amazing time ❤️
Tonight’s the night 🌅🏕🙉
Ohhh hope it went well!! ☺️
Oh no! That's so frustrating! I hope the walk was nice and kinda does what you needed it to. Hopefully public toilets will open soon and you'll have great weather for it!
The walk was amazing! So no regrets, but yeah - hopefully better luck next time 😂 ❤
We love the positivity keep it up
It truly is remarkable and inspiring that you made the effort at all, Sabina. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, I can't wait to see when you embark on your next camping trip 😊⛺️
Aww thanks for the kind words, that means a lot!! I’ve already got my next camping expedition planned - Lake District at the beginning of June. Stay tuned 😁❤️
@@girlvsglobe That's great! Can't wait to see 😄
Excellent work. Brilliant attitude!
Great video, really easy to watch. I’d recommend the South West coastal path, I started from sandbanks a couple of weeks ago and walked for three days. Stunning scenery, great beaches for swimming and loads of wild camping spots. Be prepared for some steep sections though!
Great stuff. This did make me laugh!
I’m glad 😂
Good for you! I’m just about to do the same with my dog. I have solo camped before, but never with the intentions of making it a reoccurring thing. I’m at the store right now looking for the perfect tent! I hope your still doing this. I have subscribed so will look for follow up videos to this.
Just stumbled across this video because I've been considering going wild camping solo but not been brave enough yet! Really made me smile, I couldn't believe you hadn't seen a stile before 😂 but what an amazing thing to get out and do something new! 😊 I've done plenty of hiking and wild camping before, also hiked on my own, but still too scared to camp in the wilderness by myself 🥲 inspired by your willingness to try new things though! I should just go for it!
Brilliant. Well done.
I’m watching this for inspo for walks as a break from London and LOVE that you love off menu! Such a great podcast
Omg isn’t it just?! They’re both very funny but I definitely have a slight crush on James Acaster haha 😅
Everybody starts somewhere, keep it going, you will be an old hand at it sooner than you think.
Love this video! Been wanting to try solo wild camping for a while, for same reasons as you really and once I saw a video of someone doing it it instantly grabbed me, I knew I needed try it. Problem is I live in London and don't drive and all these amazing places seemed miles away, Wales ect. You've covered so many things to help me here so TY. Just need to ignore my brain telling me I'm being stupid, I'll only ruin it and get out there.
OMG....I feel so sorry for you 😢 but well done on the 40K+ steps... I hope you've done solo camping 🏕 by now ❤
I did my first solo wildcamp last week in south Hampshire. Was meant to be with a friend but he felt ill during the day and got picked up. I could have gone to but chose to carry on solo! Looking forward to the next one!
Haha love it. At least you gave it a shot! I've spent literally a fortune on wild camping gear and never even been yet. That sofa life is strong
Great vid! More evidence that campsites suck, and camping wild is the only way to go. Best of luck!
One of my first solo "wild" camping was in Surrey Hills, even one time I slept under the naked sky, I had a tent with me but it was quite warm and very quiet, not windy, so just decided to just lay down like that, only when I woke up early in the morning it slowly started to rain/drizzle. But I love Surrey Hills, so many places to find and camp. Also I found out a family that I knew from young years is actually living in Guildford, though I never visted them there as they were working and busy so decided just to drive to Surrey Hills, find a car park, take my camping gear and walk to a random place fairly away from places I could be found and told to move somewhere.
Below St. Martha's is an old gunpowder factory hidden in the woods, if you didn't already, you should check it out. Thanks for a nice video. 🙏
That was a great adventure!
When I go hiking, it is usually deep into the wilderness, and a lot is off trail.
But honestly, you had a great trek so close to civilization, lol. I need to try that sometime 😊.
Oh my god 17 miles and not even a shit in the woods... 😂😂😂 On a serious note, it's so brave of you to talk about beating anxiety. 🙏 Great video, and I hope your next camping adventure will be soon. Take care. 🙏😃
Thanks so much for watching and for the kind comment! I’ve since posted quite a few camping/hiking videos and not been turned away from a campsite once 😂😅
Ha well that could've gone better! For some reason i'm only just seeing this so I hope your next solo camp was more successful ;)
Best first solo camping video on all of UA-cam! Welcome to the "nothing ever goes as planned" club!!!
Fabulous video, a truly colossal distance covered with the pack on! Have you considered Wild Camping? May be a tad more daunting but you cannot be let down by facilities like you were. You certainly seem to have the right attitude and desire for it! Great video. New subscriber here
That was brilliant 👏 👌 😀 Much respect for the 17 miles walk 🚶♀️ 👏
It is tough to defy anxiety and depression and not least to camp alone in nature! Nice video! Thank you for sharing! Wish you a nice weekend! Greetings from Norway!
Looking so pretty. God bless you and your family
Well loved this video
Charming vid. Ending was hilarious
That was really funny😂I love the North Downs Way, definitely need to try this part of it next time, I’m personally waiting until it gets a bit warmer and I also want to go out weekend camping with my kids somewhere nearby. Don’t give up on your camping dream and keep trying again👍🏻
Well done! Good on you for planning and getting out there! I too only just started and you just never know how things are going to turn out. I'm now going to your channel to hopefully find attempt #2 of your camping :)
The second one is not live yet, but hopefully very very soon!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment ☺️
I love it so much
So far enjoying you!
You’re so funny , enjoy watching your adventures!
lovely
It was going very nice, nature, birds, cows, clouds, trees, peoples greeting and loo spoiled everything 😂😂😂😂
Go girl it is great fun try going up on the moors or in a deep forest it is great fun
well done you, you'll be an inspiration to many who are going through the same anxiety.
Fantastic!
Thanks Brian ☺️
@@girlvsglobe it was the series of head shakes near the end, had me in tears of laughter as I recognise that feeling all too well.
Great video 🙂👍

I LOVE YOUR ENTHUSIASM! I am the same way when it comes to trying out new things & experiencing new adventures. I’ve never camped outside before but I’m falling in love with all the videos I’ve watched of van/camping life and I hope to give it a try this fall when it gets cooler. Bought my first few essentials :) I enjoy hiking and I plan to spend more time outdoors to get accustomed to different weather/places/time of day!
I thought you were wild camping! Didn’t realise you were aiming for a campsite. You should give it a go though, especially in the mountains, I think you’d love it.
It was gonna be my first time camping solo and wild camping seemed too ambitious 😅 But I just went wild camping in the Lake District and will be uploading a video from there soon!
good effort. I have had a few failed recce of wildcamping places . one was in Torbay and it.was too dangerous to climb down to the pitch overlooking the sea. sat.on a bench by the car and sulked . and drove back and said to myself. know your limits. but It was an adventure and no injuries. glad you uploaded this video.
I loved you vid...great motivation...I was surprised by the camp site reaction, many time I hav been asked if I booked for overtime stay and after saying no and just asking for a quiet place just to recover, I still got declined..ouch..and like you had to make my back home..stay sane girl
I am a fan! I want to go with you on your next try!! haha
Thanks Karina!! I’ll bring the tent, you bring the snacks 😁
Great content stunning scenery what a lovely place to for a hike. So sorry that you didn't manage to stop what a disappointment for you and me I wasn't expecting that at the end. Next time it will work out better I'm sure.
Great video I would have thought campsite should have mentioned about no loos on website I hope it hasn’t put you off try camping again hope to see more vids soon
Hello from New Zealand. So nice to watch your video, to see the trepidation and excitement in your voice. Good on you for taking the plunge , you would have found out by now that leaving the known world behind for a short time recharges the batteries helps us make sense out of the present times that we are in. here in New Zealand we call 'Hiking' Tramping and in 2021 I did 67 tramps, mostly 1 day tramps. some 5 day tramps. I've been tramping most of my life and it has kept me fit and sane. if you ever come out this way I would like to show you our mountains and bush lore. Keep on tramping girl you will be a better person for it and you will keep your sanity, Remember, there is no such thing as FAIL.
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Natures peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into the trees. The winds will blow their freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop from you like the leaves of Autumn. John Muir
Well done you , you will get there spud dont give up , most people who camp out are similar minded and willing to help wherever you end up ,
Good for you, I've recently taking up camping for the same reasons, although I had anxiety and depression long before lock down. Sorry it didn't work out for you on this trip.
YASSSSS! ME TOO!!!! You go girl
I live in London, I went to uni in Guilford, and I have suddenly become obsessed with the idea of going solo hiking and exploring... not that I ever have really gone hiking before haha anyway, seeing this has made me want to get on the train IMMEDIATELY. I was thinking I would have to go all the way to the lake district or Scotland but this is great! And probably much better for a beginner than what I was thinking 😂
i used to camp weekly in Canterbury and stealth in london, come try it here in Canterbury its really pretty. new subscriber here. love the transparency and journey of your spirit
I’d love to know your go to areas in and around Canterbury, I’m based in faversham!
This is something that I need to do
I was in go outdoors today looking at bags tents sleeping mats cooking equipment
Just need to figure out where ?? Great video thanks 👍
Hope the hiking adventures helps with the Anxiety! 😊
If you ever visit this neck of the woods again, the "silent pool" (just East of St Martha's" is a nice spot to unwind 👍🏻
I've heard of the Silent Pool - it came up on several trails in the area. I'm definitely keen to visit again and would love to see it 😍 Thanks for the tip Liam!
@@girlvsglobe No problem! Happy hiking! 😄
Looking forward to go for solo hiking
Ohh amazing! Have fun! 😁
you are so beautifulll!! anyway, all the best with your youtube stuff❤️ #campingislife
I admire your spirit and desire to get away from London, I live and wild camp in Surrey, so know it pretty well, there arent many campsites, and with Covid, they are all crowded and getting expensive, being the most densely wooded County in England, there are lots of places you can wild camp, in the area you were, for anyone thinking of doing so, you do need to know where to go, not just jump on a Train and stick a tent up, PM me if you want some tips.
I can tell
Is this love at first sight
Let me know when you're ready for the desert :) lol ❤️ so cute
0:31 is mind blowing.
Beautiful sunset eh? 😍
Nice set up
A big well done for hiking all that way very brave of you . I took up wild camping last year and it so good to get out there into nature and open space .Go for it again ⛺️👍
ATB Graham 😃
Awesome video mate , well done 👍 🙂
Nice hike at least lol! Crazy they wouldn't let you in ha better luck next time though
😂😂😂 love it,,, im thinking about venturing out but my anxiety holds me back for everything,, i love the outdoors,,, this looks amazing,,, ill be armed with poo bucket if i ever try this site lol,,, thankyou 😃 xx
You can do it.. poo bucket in hand 😂❤️
Love this... keep exploring ❤
Amazing video, honestly the hike looks amazing and your spirit in reacting to the unfortunate event is very optimistic you got me eager to go hike in the local forest here in Leicester 🤗🤗
Did you know Dartmoor is radioactive. Has a really high Radon level. You should be aglow afterwards...
you sound Scottish, American and English all at once. By the way its called a stile crossing and they were specifically designed to trip people up and cover them in mud.
I use good quality dog poo bags to capture & take away my poo & wee from wild camping locations. You could have done this and desposed of the waste @ the toilets @ Horsley station on the way home.
Decathlon is a good place to go for hiking gear!!
You did very well. . . Now just slow your breathing, find calm. . and you won't be living off your nerves anything like so much.
You seem like a nice young lady. Deserving of the chance to enjoy being who you are. . . Take care, and wishing you well. Regards Keith ( from Tenby in Wales) xxx
I love this little video! You've really inspired me to set off on my own little solo camping adventure :-) (although the epic fail at the end would totally be something that would happen to me too!!) You've also sold me on the merits of documenting my travels on video as well as simply taking photos stills. I'm really bad at remembering to record video clips, but I keep telling myself I must try harder! Do you use a GoPro to shoot your videos? If so, which one? I owned one of the first ones that came out back in 2013 but now the picture quality is embarrassingly bad compared to what's around these days (plus there's no screen on it), so I really need to upgrade!
Thanks for the thoughtful comment Kiara, so great to hear from you! Ohh do you have a place in mind for your solo camping trip? 😍 And yay - documenting your travels is always a good idea, even if you don’t upload it anywhere. I used a Sony RX100 but a GoPro would definitely work too. I’m just not a big fan of the slight fish eye lens effect and the audio isn’t always amazing - but it’s perfect for outdoor adventures and so durable!
Great video. Well done 👏👍
Wow girl was there not another site near u that was a shame
Nice video. That church looks like a nice spot
