I have seen a few Highland Park bottles in fancy bags like this one, took a look at the prices that were asked for them, and moved on...
Good for you, Mr. Quig! Vote with your wallet!
yep - move on!
Beautiful 13 year old 64.3%. Exclusive to the Northeast of the US. The Draken cask series. Named after the Viking ship the sailed from Norway in 2014 and toured the east coast from Maine to Virginia in 2018.... really? 3 years in Iceland and Greenland?? That's the story on the interwebs.
Anyway, for $200 it's been on the shelf for about 2 years.
These HP single casks seem to be all over the place the last couple of years. A variety of cask types are out there there so each one of these is unique. Had a 12yr 1st fill European oak sherry hogshead 60.1% that was such a sherry bomb that you had to struggle to get the faintest hint of the heather peat you think of with HP. Cheers Jason.
there most have been over a 100 of these HP single casks all over the world - amazing
I prefer the softer "Heather" peat in Highland Park bottlings to intense Islay smoke.
There is a 13 Year Old Single Cask California Edition available here in SoCal - Refill Sherry Butt - 62.7% ABV. $185. Have not tried it.
The HP 18 and Twisted Tattoo are my favorite core expressions.
Twisted Tattoo is a really nice bottle
My favorite or my only bottle is a Dimensions 10 year old@53.0% bottles in 2018. It's a batch release not a single cask and it appears to be Bourbon matured.
I think it's just a perfect (vanilla) whisky. Vanilla and tart citrus with billowing waves of campfire smoke in the background with a sweet and sour finish.
The label gives the born-on months, states ncf and no coler but only stars " Aged in oak casks"
There lots of talk about HP and sherry. I was not a sherry fan but when I found this I was sherry curious and really wanted a darker Highland Park. At the same time the Kilkerran 8 bug was infecting us all and I was looking for any young cask strength option with an age statement. @ $105 it was extending my price range and opened me up to 18 year olds. The KK8 is 79, the Glenallachie 10 is $75.
The journey is quite interesting in 2020 and 2021.
very true - The journey is quite interesting
I picked up a 12 yr single cask at around 66% ABV for $200 😳 … €100 sounds reasonable after looking at what I paid 😂 … have just had the neck pour from that bottle and it was a monster of a dram. Letting it sit and mellow down bit and hoping for a much better experience.
But did we even need such monsters?
@@WhiskyJason1 we didn’t … but then again there are a lot of things in life we don’t need but end up wanting and acquiring them just coz they are there 😃🥃
very true
I've a sample of Highland Park 12yr single cask aged in European oak. 63.7 abv. Seemed too strong abv for me to taste. I need to test with different amounts of water next time.
water is our friend :-)
I too enjoy the heathery peat of Highland Park--do you know of other distilleries in the Highlands (or anywhere) that have a similar type of peat?
have you tried the Talisker Port Ruighe?
The Benromach Peat Smoke may have more Islay styled peat.
The sleeper bootle is the NAS Torfa from Glenglassough. It's young because they just reopened the distillery 4-5 years ago but it's the most surprising peat. There is a thick heavy wall of an illusion of some smokey flavor. It's there but it's not. The taste quality is like what you would think of drinking real smoke but I can't really describe what the phenols taste like. Very interesting@50%.
Ontario got a 13yo first fill sherry butt at 62.8%....sounds great until you find out the price: $257 canadian!! No thanks!
Sad thing is its selling out, since our selection here is so terrible people are starved for anything interesting, no matter how overpriced....
I agree - no thanks!
