If tom Landry would've kept the the younger with Danny white would've shined like a sunny day. Team got old under landry. Still played valiantly though. Cowboy4life
Did you see the outside rusher on the left, during the extra point? May have been Darrell Green. Randy White gave him a push, and he went sailing down the field. No chance in the world at blocking that kick.
They ran this play two times in 1985 both for TD'(Wash and Pitt) It never should have taken them this long to do this with Tony. I love Coach Landry, Landry and Belichick are by far the two greatest football minds ever. I do not want to hear about Walsh and his 5 -7 yard passing offense that used the Reff that lines up next to the MLB as a fucking pick as his bullshit revolutionary offense. The GREATEST two minds were Landry and Belichick. The only mistake Landry every made was not being more aggressive in the passing game. In the middle to late 70's he should have gone more "AIr Coryell " because NO ONE had the receivers all on one team the Cowboys had: Drew Pearson, Tony Hill, Golden Richards and the most underrated receiver Butch Johnson. Throw in Dorsett, Preston Pearson (the first true third down back) Billie Joe DuPree, Jay Saldi and Doug Cosbie and ROn Springs added in 1979...OMG wewe would have destroyed Pittsburgh if we just went four to five wide. That is the only thing Landry ever did wrong, aside from playing dead armed QB Craig Morton in Super Bowl V. I just wish TL was more aggressive in the passing game. The Cowboys under Landry should have won so many more Super Bowls. Oh well....we still owned the 70's . The Cowboys finished second best in the league and one in merch by a landslide every year. If we used this play with Roger and Danny in the early 80's no one is talking about the 49ers and Redskins, no one.
Interesting points you make. Do you remember the old ESPN show with Coach Allie Sherman before the MNF game? He always criticized Landry for running patterns that were too deep. I agree with you that Dallas had 3 excellent receivers (I though Richards had too many drops, especially in the "Hail Mary" game), but I don't think the protection would have held up for deeper patterns against good pass rushes, especially Pittsburgh's. Even as it was, Staubach took a beating when he faced defenses like Minnesota's or Pittsburgh's, as mobile as he was. Btw the Lions used to run this play or something similar with Billy Simms in the early 80's, and it was also very effective!
And a whole lot of Thiesman Int's, Texas Stadium even played "Happy Birthday" to Joe at the end of the game. That was when the rivalry was really hostile!
Zeke isn’t quick enough. There aren’t many RB’s that are . I an era where defences ruled TD was a real game changer. Best Dallas RB I have seen. Smith more durable TD more dynamic. Zeke is the latest but nowhere near the greatest
soooooo those 70 and 80 yard td slow developing screens zeke takes the distance, with entire dbs trying to catch him dont matter i guess. 🤦♂️ you try n have a linebacker try n cover zeke on sprint post with a safety doubling over toward amari, and ill take it all day.
Look Zeke is 30lbs heavier than Dorsett was and fast for his size but he has nowhere near the speed . He’s bigger stronger but two gears behind TD . He could not run this route and the one against Pitsburgh the same season by TD was even better
Covered by a linebacker and you just can't do it. !!! All time great would even better today who is gonna cover him coming out of the backfield as a receiver. Fastest RB ever?
@@gslep11 I beg to differ. Ron Brown with the Rams out ran Green on a kickoff return for a TD. In the infamous play from Green's rookie year, Green only got Dorsett when he slowed down and was coasting because he thought he was home free. And Green did have some kind of angle as well as a head start/
@@christophertracy2807 There’s no shame in being a half step slower than Darrell Green who was outside of Bob Hayes and perhaps Ron Brown and a couple others the fastest NFL player of all time. Dorset had a combination of straight speed, quickness, elusiveness and underrated power but head-to-head I would take Darrell Green in a foot race against anyone of his era.
@@30RonJon Just as their is no shame is catching speedsters with an angle and or headstart or sore ankle...to each his own. You take Green, I will take all those others named...including Dorsett.
man I miss those days.
Coach Landry's bunch was ALWAYS ready to play.
I still crack up hearing Madden say all Coleman could is point at him and say hey there he go
Danny White could flat out pass the damn ball!

@@mikebowsr351511 Yes you are correct! Danny had the perfect opportunity to win a Super Bowl! I still to this have nightmares over the 49ers game!
White lost those big games....kinda reminds me of two other Dallas QBs
Beautiful pass, right on the money.
Makes you appreciate him. He was The Magic Man.
Danny threw a pretty deep ball! On the money.
What a great pass! Great catch too!
Great all around / all purpose RB
Loved this team.
If you love it so much why don't you marry it.
Dorsett what a great receiver also

Just chip blocked him. BUT a Randy White chip can send a small DG the other way like a push ! Lol

In 79, Pearson and Hill had 1000 yd along with Dorsett's 1100.
Touch down tony !!
Can't find the other 85 game vs the skins...44 to 14...aka Theismans bday.

Kellen Moore probably has something like that in the book....

@Joey COCO Dorsett was the fastest back in the league when he came out but Darrel Greene was the fastest player.

Wait what, no PI?????? Hrd to believe my dad was 34 when we were watching this together........
Notice no gloves on Dorsett's hands
Last shot out of a roman candle....nothing on it.
Linebacker vs TD GTFOOH!
You just can't do it!! Lol
Backer cannot cover Tony even 5 yards
Mote Coleman should’ve called Darrell Green for help because Dorsett wouldn’t have NEVER gotten a step on Green...😎
Dorsett had a bunch of steps on Green as he crossed the goal line!......😊
