The flip side of the short winter days is it still being light after 2200 in the summer.

In Edinburgh/Glasgow in the summer we get 17.5 hrs sunlight. Shetland gets 19hrs (though it doesn't really get totally dark)
Let's not talk about the winter.

I’ll never understand the obsession people have with two taps in the UK. There are many differences between many countries. They will never always be the same. I’ve been to the US several times. Of course certain things are different, but it certainly doesn’t bother me. One tap, two taps, what’s the big deal 😂...In the UK the toilet is, as it should be, private. In the US you can almost see what the person had for dinner. If a simple thing like two taps can wind people up so much, God knows how they make it through life when ACTUAL problems come along 😂

@Adolphus Inc. Whilst using the “restroom” in the US, i was appalled at the lack of privacy. In all my life i have never even given two taps a moments thought. I’m sure we could all make a list a mile long about things we find unusual or “primitive” about another country 😂

" can almost see what they had for dinner ' lmao very good Dave , as for the two taps without swearing the only advice I say to people is put the plug in sink end of , plus of course it's very fashionable to have two taps ( lol ) , I do try to be nice to our American friends because it's not their fault when building a housing estate by the time they build the last house the first one is being knocked down because it's too old / unfashionable

two taps was originally for health and hygiene reasons. The cold tap was fresh drinking water. hot water taps can carry bacteria which are harmless unless you lngest them, ideally they should be kept seperate and not both pass through one outlet.

Love your videos, you talk a lot of sense. In 1994 I was seconded to Staten Island, NY and as I had a UK colleague there and my manager was from the UK the move was easy, they sorted out my apartment and bank account. When your employer is a big company, in my case BT, it’s relatively easy. In 1998 I was then moved to Italy, apart from the language it was easy. I worked on telecomm exchanges and they were Swedish made but only communicated with humans in English. My next secondment was for 3 years to Amsterdam, no language problems here, everyone spoke English! HR in my seconded company found me an apartment and sorted my bank account out. In Italy & Amsterdam I the company paid for a flight home every month, it was held into an account for me. My travel budget was based on KLM fares. If I didn’t come home one month there was enough in my budget for my brother, sister-in-law and son to fly with Easyjet. Weekends were great t explored the local areas and towns. I had a great time.

When we moved from England to Australia we realised that there were three things we missed - friends, family and familiarity.
Where would I buy a lightbulb?
    Which butter will I like?…..
Exploring new brand names and foods was interesting.
We are now back in England. I value both countries.

I don't understand why the taps are a big issue.. Using them is common sense.. I go to America and just use their taps.. It's not a big deal.. They are just one of the many differences between countries.. Your nuts to expect anything else.. If you want it to be like home stay at home...

I totally agree that British people do not handle criticism well. So, I tested it with a multitude of different cultures to see how they react. I was very direct. For instance, my Italian acquaintances I would say something like there is dog poop on all your sidewalks. My Spanish acquaintances I would criticise about the level of nudity on their beaches. I tested this with about twenty other cultures and none of them were offended. Most of them actually agreed with me and had an open discussion on how the problem might be corrected.
But say anything negative to a Brit and they hate you. Which is ironic, since they invented the Piccadilly line. But I don't think they understand irony.
My conclusion is narcissism. Narcissists cannot handle criticism of any kind. And I just can't make excuses for narcissistic behaviour. That is enabling and that just empowers narcissistic abuse.

Most interesting, yet among the Brits it's very likely different rules for talking with strangers, acquaintances and friends, and then there's the neighbours, should you also live in the UK. The UK is famous for joking also about themselves: it's so varied according to whom you dealing with, quite likely.

The reason we don't often have mixer taps, is because cold water has to be drinkable. Often we have (or used to) hot water tanks which is not suitable for drinking.

My wife and children suffer from SAD, which is a problem in the UK, as you observed. Medication works but we found that the best solution was a winter skiing holiday, typically around January. The bright sun reflecting off the snow for ten days was sufficient to get everyone through to Spring.

Clue - turn on the hot tap first until it’s hot then plug in then turn on the cold tap. This was found out over years and years including my mums instructions. I’m biased as I’m a born & bred Londoner, but if City life is for you then London is a great place to live! It’s one of the most multicultural cities on the planet and has a great energy as well as some amazing buildings, museums, theatres and nightlife. Of course, it does have issues like many big cities and can be overwhelming if you are not used to city life. To say not to move there without reason is disingenuous tbh.
