I tried to comment and couldn't. The idea with the books is bullshit.
Guten Morgen 🤗
@@arnodobler1096 guten Abend! Oder besser: gute Nacht. Punktpunkt❤😊
Moin, aus Hamburg! Ich wünsch dir alles Glück für dein Studium und drücke dir beide Daumen!❤❤
that's ridiculus! 400$ on a book and you won't have access after two years? omg
in my university in Germany we had all books for free in the library + nearly all books in an online library
Oh also you can get the books from the library at all University libraries. My school library you could only have it for an hour a day. What kids would do is copy the book for 10 cents per page. If you had 200 pages it was $20 (this price was 10 years ago). Nowadays kids probably take a screen shot with their phones.
The issue is not necessarily the book it is the access code to an online platform to be able to turn on your assignments which is needed to- get a grade 🤣🥴
I wish you the best in your studies. You are so right. Higher education in the US is expensive!😊❤
Seeing this, I understand that during the education stage it already starts the divide in the US.
Like everything there, the culture is only about the money.
Soo glad the cost of schooling in the European community is mostly much lower and affordable no matter what background you have.
The money worries are not helping you to keep you focussed on what you should be doing.
I guess when you grow up in the US you just dont know any better.
I'm an American doing a masters in Germany (Bachelors done in the US). To give people an idea of how expensive it is to study in the US, I usually just tell them that the cost of a semester's tuition for my program is the price of 1-2 textbooks in the US. Textbooks there are seriously a scam!!
I hope you, dear Hayley , continue to have fun studying.👍😊
Good luck with your education, Hayley! I love to watch your videos, even though I live in a different part of the world an never been neither in Germany nor in US. It's just so entertenmaint and yet mindbroading expierence due your sense of humor and intelligence. I hope you'll pass all the test and get your degree!
I hope so too! 🤞 thank you so much for watching my videos and keeping a positive attitude ❤️
I feel so hard for you with your Scams-Feelings. Props so much to you that you are willing to get back into that system to pursue your dream, especially as someone who experienced other ways like in germany.
PS.: you look so cute in your video today!
It is good to hear from you. All the best.
So nice of you! Thank you so much!
I hope you get your dream job at the end of all this Hayley. It’s a shame you couldn’t have done it in Germany.
The price of books and uniforms definitely sounds relatable to when I was in nursing school 😖I feel for you and I hope it gets easier as your semesters continue
That's ridiculous about the online access to a book. 🤦 I remember when I i was in school the scam was always a new version. Like literally they would change a sentence or two or add some small little thing and now you'd have to pay another 200-300 $ for another book.. 🤦 I'm currently in MA program in Germany and it's all online pdfs. But you're 💯 correct. Good luck having anyone help you. You're in your own to figure things out. But I'll take it. I was spending like 5,000 a semester in my BA in the US plus books, plus a parking pass because the school was in the middle of nowhere 🤦😵💫.
Oh yes I used to hate this as well but the thing for me was that I would never buy the new edition. I would just make a friend in class, use the old edition book, and just make sure the questions were the same (which 80% of the time they were). Now I don’t have that option 🤣🤣🤣
❤thanks for your Video.very interesting to watch. I study in austria, and always wanted to know how much it really costs.
8:50 "It could be, maybe, 500-plus-ish dollars a semester."
That's a key note I've picked up on, when it comes to the countries that _charge_ college tuition. And it's not just in Europe. The colleges in India have this same phenomenon. They charge tuition per _semester,_ not per _credit._
In the US, the more credits you sign up for, the more you have to _pay._ But consistently (almost predictably), when it comes to _other_ countries that charge tuition, you pay a certain amount and then sign up for all you can fit into your _schedule._
Yes and that is amazing in my opinion 🥴
It's actually one of the things that differs between us States, but typically it is by credit hour for part time or a certain set price (which can vary greatly by degree) for full time, say a range of 12-18 credits.
Some programs will have set prices for the program, with set classes and costs as well
I’m surprised books are so expensive for you. They were expensive for me 30 years ago, especially in law school, but seemed to be much cheaper for my daughter, who graduated in 2021. She said the students all bought them from each other on Facebook Marketplace and sold theirs at the end of the semester the same way. Also a lot were electronic only and shared as PDFs. Of course, tuition and housing were high, especially in NYC, but not books. 🤷♀️
It's more common for extremely expensive books around the US than not. I was first in a university over 20 years ago and my total cost for books was maybe $250. My most recent 2 year specialty (resulting in another bachelor's) was about $2000 in books, plus several hundred for access to various software. This actually makes sense, as the experts that take part in each book have to make good money to make it worth writing in the first place (not that they get all of it)
Things have changed a lot since I studied in the US. I had tuition, insurance, books and a cheap calculator. Tuition, think ivy, was the biggest chunk. Insurance moderate and real books like any paperback today. But then we printed our assignments and handed them in.
There will always be tension between affordability and access. I was reading recently about nursing programs in California (where I live). There are programs that are very low cost through public community colleges, but these places are of course highly competitive and you may have to reapply for several years before getting in. That has led to the proliferation of private colleges offering nursing degrees at a high cost. But many applicants don’t want to wait and justify the debt by saying they’ll be able to enter the workforce sooner.
There are trade offs to everything!
I think your course will be oc, PT some type of therapist in the medical field.i want to be in that field.good luck Hailey ❤
Close ☺️☺️☺️ the medical field is so much fun and you learn so much!!!
Have you talked about the difference from the US and DE regarding dept and credit? People think about them much much differently.
I surely have. I think you can search on my channel for credit card and a video might pop up
As a former US university lecturer, I agree that a university education is not necessary for success. The US has pushed a university degree for decades, and due to that push, the country is saturated with degrees. This has led to a need to get an additional degree at a higher level in order to be competitive. However, even that has become saturated. What many Americans with degrees have is a mountain of student loan debt, which has hindered their ability to build credit. High student loan debt affects one's credit record, which in turn affects loan interest rates, car insurance rates, and one's ability to purchase a home. The US needs more people trained in trades: plumbers, masons, electricians, and carpenters. I always told my learners to study for a career in what they like. Choosing a course of study based on potential money earned will lead to a lack of job satisfaction. As long as university study is a business where money is made and tuition is offset with student loan funds; tuition, books, and fees will remain expensive.
Good luck.
Hayley ! Please never lose your sense of humor ... and your glasses !
Instead of buying expensive books, invest in a suitable pair of glasses. 😉 Otherwise you are always informative ... and somehow funny. 👍 Grüße aus deiner zweiten Heimat !
What's up Hayley
I cracked up at "cost for drug test". Is this common for tertiary education in the US?
I guess it depends on what you want to study.
Maybe she wants to become a pharmacist or chemist 😉😂
It depends on the program of study. I am in hospitals and around drugs (narcotics and co) so it is common for most people to get tested that do this program or get a job in a medical setting
@@HayleyAlexis Ah, I see. That makes sense. Thank you for the clarification and good luck for your studies!
Yeah I never had to do a drug test in my old program of study 🫠
I wish you could talk about the prices for foreigners cause they're even more absurd! Everyone of my friends in Brazil have university's degree, many post graduation as well and lots got it from a great public school cause public university's in Brazil are better than the private ones. I don't know how is the difference of prices in Germany in terms of a german student and a foreigner student. Maybe you can talk about it sometime.
I admire you for your commitment and strength. I have a question though, but maybe it is too personal, then just ignore it. I wonder how you are able to earn money at the same time as doing the program. Have you had savings or do you work apart from youtube? I just don't get it and wanted to ask it actually for quite a while now.❤
All money I make is through social media ☺️
Hi Hayley, I think it is a bummer if you buy a book for alot of money and it is only online and just available for a time. You should get a book for ever. I mean you pay for it so you should have it. This is almost like a betray. I would make a screeshot of every page. There are programs to do that for you.
Isn't the point of uniform that there are no visible social differences between students? 800 $ for uniform is way too much. Unless all clothing is much more expensive in US than in Europe.
Hi, Haley, I understand your reluctance to share what are you studying for right now. But what was your first degree 10-ish years ago, I wonder??
An accounting focused degree ☺️
@@HayleyAlexis OMG, seriously? I know many people here in Switzerland making a fortune here with that degree. I am so sorry it didn’t give you a better return of investment. I wish you a lot of success and happiness with this degree.
I can somewhat commiserate because i should have made a small fortune with my first degree but it didn’t work out for me, either.
Liebe Grüße aus 🇩🇪❤️🌨️
A really expensive "book" (exercises etc) that I bought to improve my English during my Bachelor (needed to prepare for an exame and just in general) was I think 30€? And you could always try to get them used online. 400+ for a book is completely insane wtf
Yeah... for a program I am looking into (in a year or 2) there is a book that cost about $750 if I am not mistaken
I studied in NY and in Germany. There are huge differences, not only in cost, but in exams, etc. Hayley, I would avoid using the word "school" for college and university, since most people think of kids when they hear "school"! Here is my vlog about studying in US vs. Germany, and 10 things I wish I had known: ua-cam.com/video/FU6QcuDMBOc/v-deo.html I've including dorms, food, health insurance, grading, etc. There ARE advantages to both systems, and it's surprising what they are!
Hi
Grüße aus Köln.Micha.
It definitely is painful to pay for University on your own. I'm happy I had scholarships, grants, and work study program. It gave me a free ride to University. I have a feeling University is going to be either cheaper or free soon.
A feeling doesn’t equate to actual change
So the students from abroad in Germany should have about 11000€ for every year of studying to cover all living costs.
Seems to be a bit cheaper.
Clothing for school ... must be something with medicine, biology or chemistry, whits these white coats, right?
1,000$ for drug test ? How many test like 20? Each one shouldn’t be more than 50$
Gosh here I was thinking you were just gonna do 2 or 3 years of schooling then move back to Germany lol.
But why you did not study in Germany?
It was to complicated and she would have to retake classes in Germany. Gotta love that German red tape. No the US would be the same.
Too difficult for me. The amount of work I would have to put into getting a degree I wanted wasn’t worth it to me in the long run. So I just decided to start over doing something that I have always wanted to do my whole life ❤️
Wir müssen auch das ganze Schulmaterial selbst bezahlen. Dazu noch die Steuer für die Schulbildung!
So much money!😮 I doubt it's all for education. more to feed greedy people.
By the price your paying each semester I can tell it’s a private school . Could’ve you gone State or city college ?
It is not private
Sure, cost is important but I would be more worried about the quality of the education that I'm paying for.
I think the quality I am paying for is decent. I am not really concerned about what I am learning because I personally see a difference in my education level 😆🤣😅
Will your degree be valid in Germany or Europe once you graduate?
Probably not. Degrees in Health Care apply most of the time only to the Country you live in or even only the State you live in.
No. There are jobs I can do in Germany with my degree but to be able to transfer over smoothly is not possible
@@HayleyAlexisCould you do an exchange semester? And would that help in this respect?
I could do an exchange semester but the ones they offer are not in Europe 🤣 and I have to pay a pretty penny to do it 🙊
So does that mean that you in total waste 5-6 hours every day to drive to school and back ? And then how much costs are that even for gas on top of the other costs ? And of course you don't have any private life then anymore.
I did not say I drive that far. I said in a 2-3 hr radius it’s the most affordable option.
Hayley you silly! Don't you see, you are not buying books in the US, you are renting them! lol
😢😳
And the point is? Generally speaking you don't need the books in the future. Why not just rent rather than throwing them away or getting a few dollars for books. If you sell the books you never get what you paid back. If you pay $100 you get $30 back.
🤣😵💫 well I hate it 😅🙊
@jessicaely2521 I could use my books in every other program I am going into 🤷🏽♀️ also if I sold them I would still get a little money back which is better than no money
@@jessicaely2521Yes, renting would be good for school books IF you get rent level prices. This is not what I heard in this video.
So you need to pay a lot of money on a license to access digital education material and said license runs out once you finish your studies... that's actually bonkers... 🤯
Not even after the studies…. After the semester 🤣🫠😵💫 so I am still studying but have no access to the books
@@HayleyAlexis WHAAAAAT?!?! Holy something... it's getting worse and worse. And I'm saying that as someone who's currently digging out my old job school books because I'm about to switch departments after 15 years and I want to refresh some memories. Not university, okay, but good old German Ausbildung / apprenticeship... 🤯
Yep 🥴🥴🥴 it really is a joke in my opinion and just goes to show how little these companies care about education 🫠
4:55 Hang on. "Uniforms?" "Drug testing?" _Educational_ fees? What kind of school is this?
Perhaps she should have joined the military. There uniforms are free. And she might've gotten a university degree also for free?
@@user-sm3xq5ob5d Well, yeah. I'm wondering if she's going to be undergoing training as a _merchant_ marine, or something like that.
Is that exclusive to Florida? Is it related to Florida's obsession with book banning? ( @ 11:00 ) Is that a wedding band? Did you and Mike get married? Did I miss something?
No it’s a USA thing. Not just related to Florida 🥹😵💫
@@HayleyAlexis ....and the second part of my comment???
No it is not my wedding ring. I always have a ring on that finger.... I just switched it out to a wider band because I lost my thinner one which was probably not as noticeable on camera :)
@@HayleyAlexis , well, I still hope all is well with you both.
a drug test? That caught me off guard ... never would I have expected that to be a prerequisite foe studying! And the book thing is really such a scam, even if they werent just "rented" for a few years .... like why are they 300 bucks?? That is truly insane. I think my most expensive book in university was about 60 or 70 euro ... and we used it for 2 or 3 semesters, so it didnt feel too expensive.
It depends what you are studying for. If you're studying to be a teacher no you dont, but if you're studying to be a doctor yes it is required. You don't want a stoned student doctor working on you.
Having watched this video, the following question kept haunting me : Why do you, having established that the first time you went to College in the USA, you actually were conned/ripped off by the system, giving that same system a second opportunity to rip you off. To me iy seems to be cult-like behaviour..
Well she's going for a health care degree. She'll get a job this time. Yeah it's expensive af but she didn't see another way as she couldn't easily study in Germany unfortunately. But to call it cult like... is weird.
I'm pretty sure "your" book exists in some (illegal) corner of the Internet. Personally, I would have enough criminal energy to look for it and could read it now - but that's me - not you.
I'm just saying.
It probably does but in order to turn in our assignments we need an access code which is not available on the dark web 🤣 so even if I could read it I couldn’t do my work.
Giant numbers! You are studying Scientology, right? :D
Wuuuucher!
Na, offenbar habe ich nichts verpasst. Punktpunkt wünsch dir einen schönen Sonntag!❤😊
She not in school. She is a liar.
wow... you are obsessed with me.
Why are you pregnant?
You joined UA-cam October 21st 2021... to leave this comment under my video?
Just leave this channel. Good riddance.
Are you an adult?
@@BernhardGiner i am an non-binary 🐊
@@plutoflorin3649 I would like to know whether I should recommend a sex education book for teenagers or for adults. As you indicate now, a book for children seems more appropriate.
