  • This was the scariest landscape photography expedition we have ever taken. We traveled by ATV into the most remote backcountry, where there were no other humans, to capture rare wildflower photos. Join us on an ancient abandoned mining road in grizzly bear and mountain lion country as we travel above the tree line on this landscape photography expedition. Will we make it to the top?

I love those trips when we get above 12,000 feet (here in Colorado). Not a lot of people, but amazing scenery! Looked like a great trip for you two!

Hi Chip! I agree that getting high into the alpine is an amazing experience.... so many places to go and so little time! I hope you are having a great summer! It is always nice seeing your name pop up at times like this. Tim

I am presently recovering from an ATV accident that resulted in a dislocated shoulder and extensive rotator cuff surgery. Will be using more caution in the future. The terrain in your video reminded me of mining roads in Colorado where we rode BMW 1200 GS motorcycles across mountain passes. Keep up with the adventures and be safe!

    • @TimShieldsPhotography
      @TimShieldsPhotography  Рік тому

So sorry to hear about your ATV accident but glad you are recovering. On this trip, I had my own little dust-up. I was riding with my right side tires brushing against the grass and greenery of the right edge of the road in order to avoid a steep off-camber section. I didn't see a sawn-off log that was obscured by the grass. My right front tire hit it which made the handlebars instantly turn right, which caused me to go literally flying off the machine and tumble down the road. The handlebar on the left scraped my ribs which caused bruising, but no breaks. I still have a big mark one month later. I am so thankful because it could have been so much worse. So...I feel your pain and understand how fast an accident can happen at a time when you are not even taking a big risk.

I've read books about Pan Phillips who ran cattle in the Chilton Wilderness. Amazing books, but I'm aware of the rugged terrain. I enjoyed the pre-trip portion of the video showing the equipment you included. Lea is a pretty gutsy gal! Great video.

Hi Carol, I read Grass Beyond The Mountains by Rich Hobson which is about Pan Phillips and Rich and how they homesteaded in the Chilcotins. Such an amazing story. It was through this book that I became intrigued with the beauty and ruggedness of the Chilcotins. Thanks for writing!

@@TimShieldsPhotography You need to read the full trilogy, "Nothing Too Good For A Cowboy," & The Rancher Takes a Wife." Amazing what those folks endured in the rugged Canadian Wilderness. The daughter now has also written a couple of books. Your video brought back memories I've recalled from my son's hunting adventures in the rugged Snake River Country

Hi Jeni! Thank you for writing! We were both feeling pretty apprehensive about wether or not we were going to make it at the time when the drone was up in the air, but we pushed on and finally made it to the top. I have not been on that road in ten years and it was definitely worse than the last time I was there. Very remote and hard to get to, but that is what made it a cool experience.

Hi Gene! I would say yes, you can get through with a side but it would be wise to have a couple of guys with shovels at two relatively short stretches so you can cut into the slope a bit. I would do it.
This place is the most epic ATV riding I have ever found. And I have searched everywhere.
Mud Lake to Poison Mountain is also fantastic.

Thanks Tim, really enjoyed. I've been all wrapped up in caregiving for awhile now, and this reminded me that I need to reconnect with myself again. What did you use the turn the photos into paintings and in what program? Was it a preset for photoshop? I have a few pix I'd like to do that with, so hope you will share here. 🥰👌👍

Hi Christine, thank you for writing! And yes, you need to get "out there" somewhere and create your own adventure.
I used a brand new product that we are going to launch next week to convert photos into paintings. They are photoshop actions that perform many hundreds of Photoshop processes in just one click. I already printed five of my own paintings onto canvas and they look amazing.

Great video. I'd love to try this in my jeep. A couple of those sections looked pretty narrow though. Were there many extended narrow sections? I'm thinking that's if it's just a few I could get past with some shoveling.
Also were there many wider spots that a jeep would be able to turn around at? I wouldn't love having to do a long reverse in that terrain.

Do you travel with a sat phone or at least a locator like a Spot or Garmin InReach so you could be rescued if one or both of you became incapacitated in any way? I've traveled with a Spot locator for years so my contacts know where I am and I can get help if needed.

Hi PJ, my one regret about the creation of this video is that I left out a few important things during the gear review. Number one is that we carry 2-way radios with an earpiece and mic inside the helmets so we can talk as we drive. And number two is that I carry a Garmin InReach Explorer which allows us to send a text or call for help. Back at camp, we have a Starlink satellite dish that gives us high-speed internet, which is a major game changer for expedition-style trips like this one.
A great point you made about the need for an emergency beacon.

@@TimShieldsPhotography So glad to hear it! I've also traveled by motorcycles with a friend and we had helmet intercoms as well. I knew you had the Starlink from your other online presentations.
