Love these little diary videos Preach, very inspirational and informative. I wish I was as organised as you lol. My experience so far has been totally different. I’m on my main (Prot Warrior) and hit 60 today while still levelling in Ardenweald. Just started the Revendreth Campaign and I’ve decided for now I’m choosing my covenant for aesthetic/RP reasons, gonna be Venthyr. My choice is based purely on the look of the characters, their style, the zone etc. Let’s see if I change my mind by the time I finish the campaign. I know levelling protection is a stupid idea and it was quite quick up until level 55, then it really slowed down. I’ve tanked a total of 6 dungeons, unfortunately the LFD tool will not let me queue for the last 2 levelling dungeons (my ilevel is fine) so might have to wait till heroic. This will be the first expansion since Lich King where I truly want to focus on gearing my character and I’m terrified at the prospect of Mythic dungeons and raiding. For me, hitting 60 on day 3 is a huge achievement and I’m very proud of that, I’ve throroughly enjoyed the campaign so far, apart from the maw and my first impressions of Ardenweald, and it was a zone I grew to love by the end.
The campaign can lock you out of dungeons. I did a lot of side-quests - old quests and It happened that I was unable to join instances - campaign gear does not scale. E.g. First faction gives you iLVL 80-100 - instance is 48-52 - I was 53. I could no longer do "The Necrotic wake". My Instance was Plagefall requiring something like iLVL 105, BUT the Bastion campaign only rewared gear of lower iLVL. After I had finished Maldraxxus - I had the iLVL for Plagefall, but was level 56, welcome to Mists of Tinra Sithe - you have to advance the campaign and get a better item Level. I love dungeons and questing - but I hated getting locked out of them. So for any alt I chose Threads of Fate. 1) You get your covenant ability as a dps boost. 2) you cal already collect anima. 3) dungeons seem to have a better item catch up mechanic. E.g. some alts started with Legion gear around iLVL 55 - at the first dungeons they got 2-3 drops / instance. Once they were close to the current level range it was 0-1 item / run.
Its nice to hear that the Covenants are so close for DKs cause i went venthyr, and have really been liking Swarming Mist with Bonestorm. GREAT for big packs.
All that energy it gives you leads to some absurd spam with epidemic as unholy or death strike spam as blood. It is super fun and imo the slappy hands of necrolord was a nusiance in any of the dungeons I did that had a dk with that skill.
I activated threads of fate on my druid, she was lvl 54 after doing the story in Bastion. Went to Ardenweald and doing the side quests/bonus objectives and world quests in the zone very quickly had me done with the zone and it gave great exp. Went to Maldraxxus afterwards and doing the side quests there is actually much slower for me but I'm still happy because this is all new to me as I skipped side quests on my first character through.
Took me about 9 hours to do the campaign on my main but it only took 7 hours of dungeons on my alt to level to cap without filling up any bars (unlucky), but I was tanking and doing pretty massive pulls to get through the dungeons as quickly as possible with guildies.
I’ve been loving the SL dungeons (other than Spires of Ascension, which murders my frames like I kicked Devos’ puppy). They’re gorgeous, very fun, and there’s a huge variety. The Theatre of Pain and Plaguefall are two very different dungeons despite being the Maldraxxus dungeons. I vastly prefer Theatre of Pain but Plaguefall is a perfectly fine dungeon. Mists of Tirna Scythe’s puzzle leading up to the second boss is quite enjoyable. I just chuckle whenever myself or someone else messes up and sprint back because my Druid is a speed demon. De Other Side is a mish-mash of all kinds of stuff and has Bwonsamdi, so it’s my fave.
I don't know how fast it is doing the campaign, but for me doing threads of fate on my alt warrior, every level took me between 25 and 50 minutes to complete without doing any dungeons. I just went and did the side questlines and it went really fast. I finished my 4th zone fill the bar quest to hit level 60.
I am just happy we can CHOOSE whether to do the story, or just skip to our covenant choice. thats huge, leveling alts in bfa was worse than pulling teeth after the first time
Me too. Preach's videos are good, but we have to remember they are for the 1%. Campaign would be faster for them, but spamming dungeons, doing wq is better for most of the alts.
@@vladmatei1958 1% is misleading. There are way more people that do heroic and mythic raiding than just 1% of the player base. Nothing wrong with being casual, but his style of playing is far from rare.

Otherwise the only choice is the cesspool -" LFM TO KILL HOGGER; need to be ilvl 195, no Nightfae allowed. Have mythic raid achievement screenshot from beta. ".... :*)
The dungeon locking slightly annoyed me, I dinged 60 in Arden and I couldn't que for the zone's dungeon to do the quest. Plus like you mentioned, all of the dungeons were now locked off to me due to my low item level so my only option was to go to Revendreth (which I was going to do anyway). It just would of been nice to finish off Arden with it's dungeon is all, that's how I like to do the zones.
After doing Threads of Fate on my paladin it is actually my prefered leveling system lol. I could pick and chose my content, interlace my questing with some dungeons, get started on anima or professions. But I'm also not aiming to be the fastest or the most efficient so I guess to each his own.
"Alt friendly expansion" 40 alts...... can skip maw intro quest chain..... yea so wait 6 months to when they add a skip option for that tedious hell hole?
i like dungeon grinding with friends and most importantly: if its not the same few dungeons over and over. you could do that through classic content because there were so many of them, you could hardly see all of them before you went to outland. even there, you had a lot of dungeons, just a lot of similar tomes within them. the further you went in expansions, i feel like they made less dungeons, just like 3-4 you could enter at the start with not enough exp to have you skip questing or doing them multiple times.
The campaign may be faster, but I enjoy the nonlinear Adventure Mode style play of Threads of Fate far more. It's nice to just be able to bounce around at will instead of being locked on rails.
Question: If you switch to ToF at 59.9, don't you have to do all the 'Aiding the ' quests that ToF gives? Or are those auto-completed when you reach 60?
Day 3 - Finally finished the story. The eye of the jailor fills up pretty quickly, will have to wait until tomorrow to continue the campaign. Torghast 1 and 2 done. Too easy so far, but a fun kind of easy. Callings are much better than Emissaries. Got the first one done simply by doing the random dungeon.
Threads of Fate wasn't all that bad, did it in a few hours. You get a massive amount of XP for completing a zone, so it's kind of cool to go through and do the zones in your own order the 2nd time through. You can pepper in those dungeons as you go too. You don't have to spam dungeons. Doing the world content is very rewarding I've found.
Yeah I think I will just try it out for myself still. Worst cast is I will spend most of my time getting herbs. Also, I heard the side quest still give a nice chuck of xp. I can only tolerate dungeon spamming leveling in old world content and not a new xpac.
Finding M0 groups is rough as a DPS. I spent ~1.5 hours looking for a group earlier and just get declined by everything before I gave up. I probably need to be full heroic ilvl to actually get into those pugs. Doesn't help that I'm behind on the gear curve because I didn't have much time to play this week so far.
As a tank or healer your LFG gets flooded with applicants when looking for DPS. It's like being a girl on Tinder. It's always been this way, as a DPS either you make the group, join a guild or play with friends - otherwise play tank/healer and have (nearly) instant invites.
Serious question, what to do at 60? I do some WQs, kill enough rares in the Maw to get the hated bar filled (reputation cap for the day) and then what? That say takes 2 hours because i'm watching other stuff on UA-cam, is there anything else? In a previous video he was praising SL as having tons of stuff to do in the world, but i'm probably dumb and can't find it myself...
Its all up to what you find fun friend. Do torghast, do the covenant campaigns, level alts, do your professions, play some pvp, do whatever makes you happy. There isn't much required, but there is a lot of content thats optional, so you'll have to find what you enjoy about WoW that ISN'T required.
Next alt Im deff going story ToF has taken me soooo long and boring. What was the point of cutting the story quests off from us? Even lvling ToF I think we should be able to do the story quest as optional quests.
I am doing the campaign again because I skipped story stuff because I was trying to race a streamer to 60, I did ding like 30 mins after him so it was fun. he also skipped the story so yeah
Cov lvl 4, pvp done got syigia, torghast done for this week, going to level up monk now, best expansion I been part of, being on Kazakh killed quite a few hrs of questing with average login queue time of 3-4hrs or server not up at all or restarting but that’s high loading. Still think it’s best one so far.
im like those people who never leave the city for leveling alts. i would be very happy if i never had to do quests. but i generally love the game and try all the content they throw at us utill its progress time again
In the threads of fate, are you still able to pick up side quests in each zone? I skipped side quests and just did the main campaign for my first 60 and planned to do all the zone side quests for an alt in the threads of fate
Yes you can and they give 30-50% more XP than main story quests on top of being more simple (no walking around listening to NPCs talk all the time, just picking the quest, killing or gathering stuff and handing it in) and therefore quicker.
Yes, thats fine and all, but if you take Threads of Fate, are you Permanently locked out of the maw/torghast? or just locked out until you're level 60? NO ONE seems to want to answer this question, on reddit, on yt, or blizz support.
If you choose to do the campaign again do you have to do it in order again? I thought the SL zones scales to any level on characters after your main? Can my priest not start in revendreth?
I’m pretty sure you can choose any zone in any order the second time, but I heard it makes it confusing because the story won’t be going in the order it was meant to
I wish I saw this before I when with fate I was sooooo border with it that I just made a new character from 0 and lvl her up to 60 to avoid it, I prefer the main story line to lvl up.
Because it’s had a weekly lockout since mythic dungeons were introduced. And it’s kept the lockout because mythic dungeons give gear each boss and have no time limit. If it didn’t have a lockout you could just walk into the dungeon and kill the first boss over and over again and gear up quickly. Mythic plus doesn’t have a lockout because the keys can’t be repeated, you have to complete the whole dungeon, and eventually the key becomes too high to do.
I wish I knew this a day ago. Started leveling my shaman with Threads of Fate and I absolutely despise it. It's monotonous and slow and the extremely small bit of max level "work" you get done while leveling just isn't worth it at this point in the game.
the icy veins page for dk makes the covenants sound like a fucking disaster because they can't communicate statistics. one covenant is 5% worse.. 5% worse in total class output? or do the covenants contribute 1% overall dps so its 5% of 1%. Whatever it is i'd love to know if someone has a good source for all of the numbers on this so i don't have to read bad takes on statistics to make my choice. Any help would be massively appreciated
I completely regret doing thread of fate. Will absolutely never do tof again. You get no gold or mats with dungeon spam and the WQ and bonus obj is sooooo bad.
man such a big smile on your face while running dungeons...... wonder what was going on in discord chat to cause that cause we know this game hasnt brought actual joy for anyone in like 15 years
Guilds are honestly the only thing which makes dungeons fun for me. I love clearing M+ because I enjoy playing with Guildies in challenging content. Without that I would be bored with even the best dungeon after 10 runs. I also have no idea how you hit 178? I did 8 back to back M0's and our luckiest member only hit low 170's. I only got to 168 lol
its actually faster if you do the side quests instead of dungeons. each quest gives 3-5% for the bar I leveled my lock pretty fast and I have completed each zone bar by 58
Alright, that doesn't sound so bad, but doing it like Mike said is probably the best, but it is always great to hear from someone else how it went for them, thank you!
As much as I like going from zone to zone and seeing the different plight of each Covenant I think the idea that these zones are a good place to let people test there covenant abilities is a bit crazy. I never found a need to cast any of my covenent abilities. I fact there are times were I had to remind myself "oh ya I'm supposed to be trying this ability out" to me that signals a sub system that has failed to capture my attention. Using the campaign as a tool to have player test each Covenant is an absolute failure in my mind. Thankfully lovely people like yourself and the 100s of other beta testers have complied all the info we need to make an informed choice.

Past Preach: DON'T buy BoEs!
Present Preach: Fuck you, Past Preach! Imma buy ALL the BoEs!
Got 4 characters to 52, but can't decide what I want to stick to lol. Dh, ele sham, and spriest all so fun
accidentally did the wq related to sorrowbane without realizing so I feel u there lol
im like those people who never leave the city for leveling alts. i would be very happy if i never had to do quests. but i generally love the game and try all the content they throw at us utill its progress time again
In the threads of fate, are you still able to pick up side quests in each zone? I skipped side quests and just did the main campaign for my first 60 and planned to do all the zone side quests for an alt in the threads of fate
Yes you can
Yes!
Yes you can and they give 30-50% more XP than main story quests on top of being more simple (no walking around listening to NPCs talk all the time, just picking the quest, killing or gathering stuff and handing it in) and therefore quicker.
when my group did our M0 sweep i think i got 3 pairs of boot on my mage and im the only clothie in the group :(
Yes, thats fine and all, but if you take Threads of Fate, are you Permanently locked out of the maw/torghast? or just locked out until you're level 60?
NO ONE seems to want to answer this question, on reddit, on yt, or blizz support.
You can go to the maw at 60 with Threads of Fate.
@@sandromehlhorn7736 thanks
now that you got your hair back do you plan to grow them long?
Doing your alts I’m still in the first zone can’t get out of it
If you choose to do the campaign again do you have to do it in order again?
I thought the SL zones scales to any level on characters after your main? Can my priest not start in revendreth?
I’m pretty sure you can choose any zone in any order the second time, but I heard it makes it confusing because the story won’t be going in the order it was meant to
Threads of fate is shite how do i swap back to campaign.
what item level should i get before i run the Mythic zeros?
150+ is fine
140~ you can pretty easily do m0s right after finishing the campaign. The real problem is getting invited so make your own groups for the first few.
@@ChichiNaka perfect thank you that makes things easy
Just run one at 140, we're not doing tons of damage but it's definitely good enough, though pug requirements will naturally be higher.
weren't you going with the moonkin as your main alt?
Hair is looking really good man.
Threads of fate, focusing on questing took me 5.6 hours to 60
Is that with the alliance xp buff?
I wish I saw this before I when with fate I was sooooo border with it that I just made a new character from 0 and lvl her up to 60 to avoid it, I prefer the main story line to lvl up.
Is there really a 1 week lockout for M0? If so why?
Because it’s had a weekly lockout since mythic dungeons were introduced. And it’s kept the lockout because mythic dungeons give gear each boss and have no time limit. If it didn’t have a lockout you could just walk into the dungeon and kill the first boss over and over again and gear up quickly. Mythic plus doesn’t have a lockout because the keys can’t be repeated, you have to complete the whole dungeon, and eventually the key becomes too high to do.
Day3; still trying to get into an m0 group for literally anything.
think people are really looking for specific classes for whatever reason, couldnt get into anything at 161 as a ret pally.
Make your own... ?
make some friends, my friend
Day3; still trying to loot the mob i killed a few hours ago! I love Shadowlags
I don't even have the ilvl for heroics 😂
damn i selected thread of fate on 5 alts >< >
dungs have always been the way to go. id rather do that then fetch quests anyday. post wotlk just not the same anymore. keep at it preach
I just hit 60 last night o.o
I wish I knew this a day ago. Started leveling my shaman with Threads of Fate and I absolutely despise it. It's monotonous and slow and the extremely small bit of max level "work" you get done while leveling just isn't worth it at this point in the game.
Bruh I've hit 60 on 3 toons and they're all 170 ilvl with 8/8 Mythics. This game is like crack. Shadowlands is so damn good so far.
They seriously need to buff Threads of Fate... XP is pitful, although you do get rep and some side quests are decent.
the icy veins page for dk makes the covenants sound like a fucking disaster because they can't communicate statistics. one covenant is 5% worse.. 5% worse in total class output? or do the covenants contribute 1% overall dps so its 5% of 1%.
Whatever it is i'd love to know if someone has a good source for all of the numbers on this so i don't have to read bad takes on statistics to make my choice.
Any help would be massively appreciated
how is campaign fast?? its so much rp and dead time....
I don’t know compared to campaigns of the past it’s quite quick
I completely regret doing thread of fate. Will absolutely never do tof again. You get no gold or mats with dungeon spam and the WQ and bonus obj is sooooo bad.
Yeah, I went to 60 and then had to do all of Ravendrath. Really sucked. Wish I saw this sooner...
man such a big smile on your face while running dungeons...... wonder what was going on in discord chat to cause that cause we know this game hasnt brought actual joy for anyone in like 15 years
Guilds are honestly the only thing which makes dungeons fun for me.
I love clearing M+ because I enjoy playing with Guildies in challenging content. Without that I would be bored with even the best dungeon after 10 runs.
I also have no idea how you hit 178? I did 8 back to back M0's and our luckiest member only hit low 170's. I only got to 168 lol
I don't understand how he plays so much fucking WoW...it's insane
Wish I saw this 9 hours ago before I chose theads of fate on my lvl 51 paladin, I forsee that I will hate my life
its actually faster if you do the side quests instead of dungeons. each quest gives 3-5% for the bar I leveled my lock pretty fast and I have completed each zone bar by 58
Alright, that doesn't sound so bad, but doing it like Mike said is probably the best, but it is always great to hear from someone else how it went for them, thank you!
Has preach found IRl Chromie and got hair?
Must be nice to play wow for your day job. And here I am with still level 57 in Ardenweald because the expansion has only been out for FOUR DAYS.
Is it ok for Mike to be wearing headphones with the implants?
I did Threads on my Shaman ann I hated it!
