Painful situations sometimes help us to birth good things. It was on 1st December 2014 in the city of Capetown around 5am, when we woke up to darkness, dust and crushing sounds of heavy machinery outside of what we used to call home. It was so windy outside, and when l woke up l heard male voices of man outside who had started demolishing the house because the new owner had given them keys to the house for access. When l went outside there was a construction company with machinery, delivering sand, quarry, cement and all kinds of building materials. The previous owner sold the house without informing us through an agent so that we can prepare to vacate. Water was closed, and eletricity was switched of. Our furniture in the living room was dirty and we had to cover it. I woke my family up and we quickly packed our staff and put it outside by the road with no idea of where we were going to stay or sleep. We couldn't cook so l had to rush to a nearby Goodwood mall to buy a bucket of KFC and 2l coke. I couldn't eat, l was busy driving around the city looking for accommodation, calling and goggling but to no avail. The moment most white property agents knew that l am a black African through my surname, then they closed the doors for me. I lost hope when business closed around 5pm having secured nothing. My wife and family spent the day guarding our things by the road outside the house and it was very windy and cold. I then drove to an open field in Goodwood and sat in the car frustrated, angry, hopeless and crying😭😭😭🙌🙌🙌. After a few minutes l had singing and no was there, then l realized the voices were from above. Without thinking, l found myself singing along and when the voices died out l continued to sing. I then realized l am singing a song that l have never heard. In 2015 l recorded the song with Worship House ZA and it went viral and that song is #NgiyamaziUmhlengiWami 😭😭🙌🙌. I didn't add anything on it except instruments, l sang it in the tune l was given. That's how Ngiyamazi came about.
