    Hey coach, I think you might have missed the point of the Karasuno third-years' former captain crying when expressing how good Daichi has gotten. He's not jealous in any way, in fact he's really just proud at how far his juniors have come. I understand why it could be taken the other way though! Also want to add that he was the most enthusiastic / ambitious of the current third years' senpais.

      I feel like in reality it tends to be more of a similar situation to what coach Donny described, not to mention he's encountered it himself before, so I don't blame him for seemingly misunderstanding the intention of the scene.
      Also too many characters in Haikyu are just too nice! XD

      For me it was specially frustrating hearing that, because there are other flashbacks that show he was the only person who was actually wanting to win on the team before suga and company got there. Not everyone can be a shonen protagonist to inspire a team of people who dont take something seriously by force of will.

      Yeah, I get the feeling that coach Donny misunderstood a bit, he's not crying and complaining that he wasn't able to reach the same level as his juniors (especially Daichi, being the captain who took over after him) but rather praising him and crying out of pride that his juniors did in fact manage to surpass him and reach a level he never could.
      Not to mention that they kept the promise of seizing the opportunitiy to once again take Karasuno to nationals! (I'm actually touched over him being so emotional over their success)

    "Opportunities present themselves to those who have prepared". One of my favorite quotes from Haikyuu. They kept flashing back to the moment Karasuno's previous Captain told Daichi, Suga, and Asahi that he doesn't know if Karasuno will ever be good enough to go back to nationals again but if that opportunity presents itself, they better take it. And now they finally made it to nationals and the two previous team captains get to see it happen.

      @@ElevateYourselfOfficial I was surprised when you mentioned it right around the end. I have always thought that luck is some unknown random variable but after reading the Soccer Manga entitled "Blue Lock" my perspective changed. There the coach put emphasis on luck as something that we create and increase its probability by experience, instinct, and intuition. Hence, luck is not just about being at the right place at the right time but puttig yourself in the right place at the right time and hopefully the factors outside of your control lines up to the image you have in your head.

    The guy in the stands was crying because he was proud of how much Daichi has improved, not because he was jealous. He was Karasuno's team captain when Daichi, Suga, and Asahi were first years. And the guy next to him was team Captain right before Daichi. The flashbacks you kept seeing were from the two previous captains remembering how much everyone has improved. Tanaka especially used to be very impulsively and just hit max force every time but now he actually thinks calmly under pressure and send the ball to annoying spots for the other team to receive.

    Regarding Azumane's 80% strength serve. I think there is a scene in the manga, that for some reason was left out of the anime, where Coach Ukai instructs Azumane on how to manage his strength at serving by clenching and releasing his fist in order to manage the strength in his muscles. Someone that actually read it can comment on it. I don't know why they left that out but they left in the gesture of Azumane doing the fist clench.

    • @ERACLAB

    "Mou ippon" is more of a "one more point", as in "go out and score one more".
    Not sure if you caught it, but the flashback with Tanaka was really well-placed: they're showcasing that he used to just go for a strong spike whenever he had a chance to hit the ball, not thinking much, but in this game he thought carefully about how to handle the last touch and returned it to a very uncomfortable spot for the other team, forcing the player to quickly jump back.

His generation at Karasuno was the one that didn't have help, no coach and everything, so when he says to take chances, it's to take what comes and run after, not that he hasn't done it. Hey coach! I wanted to clarify some things animation wise since I work in the western TV animation industry.
    One animator is usually not going to animate a whole episode. Pipeline wise, that would simply take too long. Instead, with studios like Production IG, they assign anywhere from 15-50 animators (sometimes more/less depending on the demands of a season) several shots to animate. Some episodes have more shots than others but 350-500 shots per 23 minutes is pretty standard.
    So whenever you see the camera make a cut like you mentioned in the video, another animator is animating that shot. It’s up to the director and production to make sure the quality remains consistent between shots. However, since some shots aren’t a priority due to time restrictions with productions, you’ll sometimes get one shot that’s a little wonky and another shot(thats really important to the story and the director wanted to prioritize) that’s super well done.
    Hope that wasn’t too long but not many people know how the sausage is made in my industry and I wanted to share my two cents. Haikyuu is such a big show and sometimes I feel bad for the animators with how hard people are on season 4.

    • @ohheyfiona
      @ohheyfiona 2 роки тому +1

      Delayed response but hard agree on your last point. I honestly feel like Season 4 has some of the best animation across the entire anime, but so many people get worked up about the bad bits (and really, there aren't many) that it just becomes "season 4 animation is trash". There's a global pandemic going people, be grateful we even got a full Season 4! 😅

    • @JapanBlue54
      @JapanBlue54 2 роки тому +1

      @@ohheyfiona yeah I’m very grateful they were able to meet the deadlines at all. Everyone in animation has been working so hard and pretending things are “normal” despite everything. I also recall that the directors changed for this season so a lot of adjustments had to be made.

    just noting here too that Suga's set to Tanaka was deemed "perfect" from Kageyama who is all about precision setting. That's really high praise from Kageyama to Suga especially since he was just subbed in and is setting from the right back row. to set a perfect set to the left is really amazing for someone that is supposed to just be a backup setter. :)

    Suga is my fave boi and I'm so proud of him. He has such a big impact on his team both on amd off the court.
    I do appreciate hearing your story about people who get jealous of someone who worked harder to get better since it's something I've seen too, but in this case it was just Karasuno's former captain getting emotional seeing the growth of his juniors.
    As far as I can remember they really did the best they could with what they had. They didn't get the same opportunities (two great coaches, practice matches with other schools, training camps etc.) that the new Karasuno team has had this year. They worked with what they got and that just wasn't enough realistically to get them to nationals. And that was their dream.
    Sure there's always improving to be done with an individual player but if someone (or a whole team) doesn't have the resources to achieve the dream they had originally sought, I really can't get angry at them for not pouring all of their time and energy into it while knowing it won't amount to anything

    It was good to know that the serve was called “Sky serve” in US, it’s called “Tenjo serve” (ceiling serve) in Japanese.

    I think you're underestimating how big anime production teams are. Usually each animator will handle 1-2 scenes in an episode, depending on the level of detail that the director wants in each scene. The more scenes each animator has to handle, the longer the show needs to be in preproduction, and generally anime studios are releasing multiple anime a year, or multiple anime a season for the bigger studios.

    I was in a national adult tournament in japan 4 years ago, and there was a guy doing these skyball serves. It was no joke. He was getting aces left and right, especially when it would land in the seams. And when it wasn't in the seams, just like in this anime, people couldn't get the timing right. It'd hit the ground and would sound like a bowling ball landed. Luckily, I set and didn't have to deal with that drama. lol

    The skyball server isn't just a rookie first year, its his official match ever... put in a pinch server in the first game of the biggest tournament of the year. Super nervous. For Asahi's --% power thing, its about dialing in his power on the serves. In the manga they go into more detail but not for a while. Haikyuu loves to set things up so I'm sure they will have it down the road.

And then Couch Ukai, when he saw his face, thought "That's right. Be ambitious." with a smile, because in a past episode Kinoshita hid behind his teammates before he got called out by Couch Ukai. So that obvious frustration is seen as a step up.
