I'm here for the classic scream at 2:52. :-) Some old school greatness here like the ending of the solo at 2:40. This is from their first album "Spell of Iron", released in 1986. To get a better understanding of what Tarot was about in these early days I highly recommend you to check out the original 1986 version of "Wings of Darkness", which is their best known song from this era. Some more interesting ones would be the instrumental "De Mortui Nil Nisi Bene" with some excellent melodic guitar parts and fine bass playing by Marko Hietala. "Things That Crawl at Night" is essential... mostly because it's a great song but if you're also interested to hear some different sides of Marko's voice. One of my favourites is also the song "Back in the Fire" with its epic chorus. This is melodic old school metal at its best.
This should be before Marco's surgery in 1996. They touched the area near his vocal cords to remove a polyp, leaving him unable to do certain things with them. On top of it the surgery was unnecessary and it hit him hard, driving him into very dark times with alcoholism. But he has still managed to get clean and a reputation as a singer after that.
@@arcanesiren629 yle.fi/uutiset/3-9871115 Himself, in the trustworthy main media of Finland. He says that a surgery (removing a polyp near the vocal chords) that he had at the end of 1996 damaged his voice, it caused nerve damage and the voice never recovered unlike they promised or went back to how it was, for example he lost his high true falsetto. And that the polyp surgery was later deemed unnecessary as it could have been treated with "voice therapy".
@@ilonaknuutinen +1 Google translate seems to do understandable work with that article (I'm a native Finn so I can read the original article). I wasn't previously aware of Marco's alcoholism in the past.
+Metallized- Official They are/were as good as an american metal band in these years (1986) :) They are on the same level..so just because they were/are Finnish didn't grow world wide :/ :) Sad moment.
Yep... the first and the second album drives me crazy... the others are totally different... drives me tired. XD Spell of Iron and Follow Me Into Madness are fuckin awesome
I think the same totally. ;) BTW I love the old scool sound like these tracks so when I heared this 1986 waaahhman :D I find it after I heard the Wings of darkness from 2014 (And I smiled a big when I looked at Marco at 20 how cute was he like a boy >.< :D ) But all in all Finnish Metal is bitch perfect
What an era! True feelings of pure heavy metal by Tarot . Not at all poser metal... Not Americanism.... It's only the melody of Scandinavian school. Greetings from Greece.... Although i have the same age as Marco, i started to listen to Tarot music in two years ago
Marco in the 80s: love's not made for my kind
Marco in 2015: yours is an empty hope
The years didn't make him kinder :p
