"When the second car was built!" LOL! Perhaps Ginger and I will have to go auto racing here in Australia to continue the tradition. Although the boyfriend's brother raced his 1963-1/2 Ford Fairlane in Virginia, and the Drouin Speedway is somewhere nearby (I used to hear the engines roar if the wind was right), I have never attended an auto race.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway back then called the "brickyard" was one of the first tracks in the US. In 1909 it hosted it's first gas filled balloon race. I once read in a Panhard story that european road racing was very dangerous in the 1900's due to the condition of the roads, and the amount of dirty tricks pulled by other competitors, never the less some drivers still pushed out some impressive train like speeds.
Pinned for Q&A

Crikey!
Fascinating as ever! Cheers Bill
Very cool.
Interesting video Bill. Coincidentally, I've just spent the day at Brooklands, part of which is now a museum.

Aye. There's an episode here about the details of The Brickyard.
