When Susan told her, "Will you SHUT UP FOR ONCE", a perceptive eye can tell that Bette knew that line meant more than what the script dictated. Loved Susan Hayward! A wonderful actress---gone too soon.
I wish you would upload the showdown between Susan Hayward and Bette Davis in the hallway of the delinquent juvenile facility. Miss Hayward was one of the few people who was gutsy enough to put that Davis harridan in her place, both on and off screen!
Two great actresses Bette with grit,Susan with passion. Until viewing this clip i thought I had missed one of Susan Haywards film now I remember seeing it...but her all time best was Backstreets !
Thanks for sharing the clip; I have the entire movie on disc, recorded it from TCM. I actually saw the movie when it was first released, when I was 13. Susie is so gorgeous in it, the real beauty of a mature woman. And what an actress; she wipes La Davis right off the screen. I'm wondering why you didn't post the famous confrontation scene between them, in the hallway of the Juvenile Detention Center. Classic showdown!
Davis once referred to "Where Love As Gone" as one of the "stinking pieces of crap" she only did for the money. "'Where Love Has Gone' paid for my daughter's wedding."
What a great 10 minutes!!!! Movie magic...extremely good acting, story, Bette Davis and the talented beautiful Susan Hayward. I am fascinated with her decision to leave Hollywood and marry a used car salesman, then living on a farm in Georgia.....I think she went toe to toe with possibly Hollywood's Greatest Actress, and scored a knockout punch in this movie.
Two great Iscar Winning actresses Susan Hayward and Bette Davis with 3 Oscars and 15 noms between them united for the first time in this film based on the Lana Turner/Stompanto murder scandal. Ms Davis was quoted "There was no one I admired more than Ms Hayward" but that soon ended with the two great movie queens fighting on the set. Miss Hayward was top billed and had script control and won the battles. The two feuded until Ms Hayward's death. Great stars, fine film. RIP Susan / Bette
Not for long. She was more than happy to sign on for the TV series "The Survivors" in 1969. It was said that Lana never believed WHERE LOVE HAS GONE was about her.
some may not know that this movie was based on the true story of actress Lana Turners daughter who murdered Turners then boyfriend Johnny Stompanato after witnessing a fight between the two-the daughters name was, I think, Cheryl Crane-
Cheryl Crane ultimately created a fulfilling life and inner peace for herself. It was a rocky road to get there, but she writes about it all in "Detour," her autobiography that came out in about 1988, when she was 45 years old. She also healed her relationship with her mother. The title, "Detour," is an understatement. Crane was lucky to be alive, and she knows it. It's well worth reading.
Before she died Turner admitted to several friends she really killed Stompanato MGM studio officals were involved with the cover up ,Cheryl being a minor would be aquitted....but there was a good chance Lana would be convicted.
Again, Susan was a superb, accomplished actress. Anyone placing her in the b-actress category for playing "brassy", stereotype roles would also have to include many, many other fine actors. It's just dumb to refer to her as a "b" actress; study her body of work before making such a claim.
I know I'm saying this years late in the game, but I think Susan Hayward was underrated, Bette Davis overrated. Fanbois tend to overlook BD's performance bombs, such as The Bride Came COD, etc.
Susan Hayward completely puts Bette Davis in the shadow....Susan Hayward was much more beautiful than the ugly Davis and she was a more sophisticated actress, as seen in this confrontaontin scene! Hayward is superb ...and Davis a caricature of herself and totally over the top! Hayward's speech is tremendous and very moving.
Yes she was very talented. Any actress who was nominated 5 times for an Oscar was certainly not a B actress. Susan was the first choice to play the leads in The Graduate, Three Faces of Eve and Cleopatra. With the exception of Cleopatra which I thought she was right in saying no to because she felt she was not right for the part, I felt she should have gone with The Graduate and the Three Faces of Eve..
This scene was the key to understanding the entire film, it is much better than Mexican and Venezuelan soap operas, of course, the cast was of high acting quality and versatile, great film
Esta escena fué la clave para entender toda la película , es mucho mejor que las telenovelas mexicanas y venezolanas , claro ,el reparto era de alta calidad actoral y versátil , gran filme
Two greats, though films are never made to be campy, but this is one campy film. Live in NYC, I admire both of them, especially Ms. Bette, Susan died to soon, but a very beautiful red head, she was only 10 years younger than Ms. Bette. Again a very campy film.
Susan abd Bette both BEFORE filming spoke highly of each other and Susan was deferential respectful tight the greatcBette who collected a smooth $250,000 for her role. Bette has to realize when she accepted the part ofaSusan’s mother that Susan would run tcc BBC e show. I just pray that vettecin good health sent flowers to Susan to get well after all Garbo, Hepburn, Stanwyck did.
Hayward was certainly a movie star but not not much of an actress. She always played the tough, brassy redhead and played it good but on ONE note. Davis wiped her azz with this schitt script & wanted to work w/Susan to improve it but Hayward cared more about her pulp image than the quality of the script.
Silly Susan Hayward fans booing Bette Davis. The truth is Davis merely let Hayward loose and deliver the worst acting by an actress for 1964. Davis knew from the start the film stank anyway. It;s pathetic for Hayward's fans to cheer her "performance" for a film that would permanently ruin her status in Hollywood. That's why Hayward is hardly remembered today.
No, Susan Hayward refused to be bullied by Bette Davis, who had the shitty habit of disrespecting her co-stars and trying to take center stage. Bette Davis was one bitch who needed to literally have her sorry ass handed to her on many an occasion.
Davis was not interested in improving the script. She wanted every one to cater to her and Susan was not about to do that and she did not. Susan was a lot of things but stupid and insecure were not adjectives that would apply to her. Susan got to where she was by being a fighter just as I would say Davis probably did also.
Susan’s speech at the end is brilliant. Hayward understood screen acting.
Susan Hayward is LIFE! One of the greatest, yet underrated, actresses of all-time!
No. That's Hillary Clinton!
Her performances were riveting!
She was unique!
When Susan told her, "Will you SHUT UP FOR ONCE", a perceptive eye can tell that Bette knew that line meant more than what the script dictated. Loved Susan Hayward! A wonderful actress---gone too soon.
I am a lifelong fan of this movie! I love it!!
why do we have to put down Bette Davis here to build Susan Hayward? they're both spectacular!
yeah but i think it's because davis was very mean and a bully to susan. betty is more well known but susan's acting is superior.

Susan Hayward is great in this movie which was a return to paramount . Susan looked beautiful in this film

Davis was a BITCH ,not an actress!
Davis publicly, many times, said Baby Jane paid for her daughters wedding

That's the great Jane Greer as the court oficer.

I’m Here for Joey
Same.

Some people believed that Lana did the stabbing but let Cheryl take the fall because as a kid she'd getting a much lighter sentence.

Yeah: Susie didn't kowtow to Davis at all during the filming. "Bitch!" she yelled at Davis, and probably, she was justified in her remark.

she's marvelous, she always "gets" me. im back here three years after making a comment and she brought me to tears again. she's ACE.
❤ this movie.

They both were great betty play young and old Susan never lived to play old
Where's part 4? Don't tell me you don't have part 4. This is a good movie
She was a wonderful actress who died much too too soon. Talk about her being a B Actress is absurd.
Yes she was very talented. Any actress who was nominated 5 times for an Oscar was certainly not a B actress. Let's play nice people. Leave out the personal comments and stick to the film.

This story was loosely based on Lana Turner's affair with Johnny Stompano, who was stabbed to death by her daughter.
why is the picture acting up
Susan abd Bette both BEFORE filming spoke highly of each other and Susan was deferential respectful tight the greatcBette who collected a smooth $250,000 for her role. Read the book
too young to see it i was a kid then
Outrageously based on the real life scandal about Lana Turner and her daughter.
it feels like the prediction of bette davis late years fate. being compulsively hated by her self-righteously obnoxious daughter. poor bette.
Hayward was certainly a movie star but not not much of an actress. She always played the tough, brassy redhead and played it good but on ONE note. Bette was a control freak in this film. Susan commited suicide in the end.
hayward was a B actress and stupidly was too insecure to work with Bette in improving the script to raise it out of the pulp kitsch level that it was.
No, Susan Hayward refused to be bullied by Bette Davis, who had the shitty habit of disrespecting her co-stars and trying to take center stage. Bette Davis was one bitch who needed to literally have her sorry ass handed to her on many an occasion.
سوزان هيوارد من اعظم الممثلات

"It's already been decided that I'm an unfit mother, an ungrateful daughter and an irresponsible wife... and one lousy actress!"
Are you trying to be mean? We all have eyes, Susan Hayward did a phenomenal acting performance in this movie. I think some people are just nasty...
