walk up is actually just a black midi song lmao, before the break up the song was called lumps and was a part of their regular lineup of songs to play live
@@ghoulish6125 To me Bongo Season is similar to Mark's Theme from Ants From Up There, an interlude between the two halves of the album, and just like that album, the second half grabs everything from the first half and deconstruct all that in such a way you can't help but see the whole thing unfolds before your eyes and ears in awe.
Yeah, as a Brazilian I feel Milton Nascimento is a big influence on the álbum, but I feel more Novos Baianos, wich have more rock sounds mixed with bossa nova and samba By the way, you absolutely have to listen to 'Novos Baianos - Acabou Chorare" álbum, is my best brazillian álbum ever
It feels weird to say that I really was emotionally struck by an album as extreme and over-the-top as this. But I was. The perfect examination of those thoughts men put to the back of their minds, the fear of being alone, the fear of not being strong, the fear that you are a failure to everyone around you. The Magician in particular affected me in a way that very few songs do. The breakdown where he sings “what’s left of the lover who doesn’t exist” just broke me into a million pieces. An absolute masterpiece. Easily my favourite album of this year and right next to Ants From Up There as my favourite of the decade so far
I wonder if it's called the New Sound in reference to Bossa Nova. This translates to the New Wave. I hear a ton of Latin jazz elements on this album and I love it.
Haven’t finished the video yet, but all the songs you’ve said are black midi type songs are the only ones with Morgan on drums (Blues, Walk Up, Motorbike)
This album overtook Magdalena bays album for album of the year for me personally. This is my favorite album of the year so far. You should check out that album if you haven’t yet cuz it’s super good!
I remember seeing The Magician live when i went to go see black midi in Glasgow, i think the recording is on youtube. Id never heard it before qnd i had to find the setlist to find the song and i was so disappointed it wasnt on studio yet. This is like christmas come early
It's extremely vindicating to see someone have over the top reactions when listening/reacting to music the same way I do lmao. This album is unbelievable.
I love that youtube recommends me these reaction videos, i'll watch it everytime even if I don't know the channel/creator, just to know people are fucking with this album as much as me is awesome.
Had exactly the same reaction to you watching The Magician live on BMs most recent tour. Started out laughing at some of the lyrics etc but ended up completely stunned. Have seeked out every live version and the Old Fruitmarket version is quite close. But "my" version will always be "Auckland Night 3". The album version has lived up to my expectations, i was disapponted at first, but it does capture the same feeling, as evidenced by your reaction, just my feelings for the live version are more personal i suppose.
As the album concept, i unterstood as: Powerfull leader of a country that is going to revolutions (i assume that the country is latin American, due to the álbum sounds) go out with a prostitute, besides the inflated ego and apparently high self steem, he is someone Who seeks affection and is not sure that he is powerfull in that sphere, he falls in love with her and get a sexual infection, years latter he marry someone, but he can't forget that prostitute, the marriage ends, the media finds out about the whole situation, he lost his chair, and start to get chased By the end i did not understand If he is dead, the prostitute is dead or both are
I love your reaction! Kinda unfortunate there's no reaction for clube da esquina, my favorite album of all time. So if you ever want to react to any milton's stuff, do Minas (1975)
I don't think it's fake, but it seems to have happened on good terms, so not unlikely that they get back together at some point, if only to do a tour or a one-off collab.
@@eskipotato from black midi's wikipedia: "Greep later admitted that the band "hadn’t really been on speaking terms as a band a while before that". Black Midi had internally split before the announcement, but opted not to say anything publicly because, according to Greep, "In a few months it’ll be obvious, and we won’t need to say anything about it. But then it became apparent that wasn’t really the case. People were all the time saying, ’What’s happening?’ I thought… who cares? Let’s just say it. It’s over - I don’t want to string anyone along."[38] In a subsequent interview, Greep expressed hesitancy regarding management's statement about the door being left open." My understanding is Geordie and Cameron have some beef going on since Cam's the only one not on the album in some way and he seemed to take offense to Geordie announcing the breakup. Probably no black midi reunion for a long time, but we can hope
walk up is actually just a black midi song lmao, before the break up the song was called lumps and was a part of their regular lineup of songs to play live
Also, some riffs in Blues and The New Sound and entirety of The Magician were black midi songs
Motorbike/As If Waltz/The Magician is one of the strongest three-track runs I've heard in 2024 so far
I would include If You Are But a Dream in there too so that it's one of the strongest four-track runs of the year
Do I hear people sleeping in the respite known as Bongo Season?

Great reaction! Btw, Morgan Simpson did play drums on Blues, Walk Up, and Motorbike. So those songs are like 2/3 Black Midi.
seth evans also sings in motorbike, so thats basically just a black midi song lmao
The Magician is utterly unbelievable
I still feel like the black midi's version sounds better
the magician is my song of the decade, its so bananas

The final two minutes of As is Waltz is simply breathtaking !

about clube de esquina: greep actually said its his favorite album ever so it makes sense you picked up on that influence lol

As if waltz is the inverse of Holy, Holy. Lots of references back to Holy, Holy

Seth Evans is basically another member of black midi. Been helping in the studio and on tours since cavalcade playing keys, synth, and bass
I love that youtube recommends me these reaction videos, i'll watch it everytime even if I don't know the channel/creator, just to know people are fucking with this album as much as me is awesome.
Holy, Holy is my song of 2024, and The New Sound is my album of 2024. Love your reaction and comments DC - bang on!
Last track is a frank sinatra cover
The Magician. No words are needed bro.

Alternative title: Man Greeping all over the place
Great vid btw!
AOTY
I love the casiopea inspiration on Holy,Holy
Really great reaction, you’re super expressive and your insight is good throughout

I'd never heard of black midi before this but he sounds like frank zappa. Saw zappa in concert several times back in the age of the dinosaurs.
is that a black and white cornballs vinyl i see on the wall?
I love when someone says "That's disgunsting!" and there's a smile on his face hahaha 21:54
Some of this stuff sounds so much like The Mars Volta
imaginal disk reaction when?!!!!
HONEY WAKE UP, DAVECHER POSTED HIS GREEP REVIEW!!!
My favorite album of the year so far (but i didn't listen to the new smile record and very much enjoyed there last one)
you should react to the texas jerusalem crossroads by lift to experience, one of the weirdest shoegaze albums with a pretty funny cover
comparing this to club de esquina is a wild one that i just dont see haha
I’m still 100% convinced the breakup is just a hiatus, faking a breakup is 100% something they would do.
that might just be a massive cope on your part too

Holy! Holy! You're a cutie! 😘
not sure about how i feel to this comment
This album is pure smoke, it has nothing innovative, nothing new, it is simply mediocre screen music for insufferable people.
