Well, there's my favorite Amtrak unit - 353! Thank you for posting this! I always loved seeing and hearing 353 and 369 when they ran on San Joaquins. Minor correction - 353 had a P5 variant at this time, worn out from heat and exhaust due to its placement just behind the turbo hatch. After its late-1995 [final] rebuild, it initially had a K5LA that modulated pitch like a steam whistle. That horn was replaced sometime before summer of 1999, with what we hear in this video. There are also really clear recordings of it in "Sacramento Steam" and "Railfair '99."
I Remember Photographing Stockton Tower in Stockton California With my late Dad Steve Schmollinger Who has lots of Photos of the WP , SP , UP and Santa Fe at Stockton Tower in Stockton California Awesome Footage of Stockton Tower in Stockton California It brings back lots of Memories ❤❤❤❤❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥💥💥💥💯💯
A friend of mine worked nights at Stockton Tower. I would go up in the tower and he would let me line switches and clear signals using the old interlocking system. What a treat that was. Great video. Thanks for posting.
I used to railfan at Stockton Tower in the late 80’s and early 90’s, and it was quite busy at times! If you were parked in front of the tower facing the SF tracks, you would sometimes have a UP train on your left, while having a SP train on your right! Best part though, since I made friends with the tower controllers, I would get to go up into the tower and watch the action from there! Great video Hunter!
