    I have been transferring all the tapes to DVD for 4 years now. I found a vhs to dvd machine at goodwill over 4 years ago for $ 10.00 !! It works fine and I have been having a blast with it !!!

    I run the output of the VCR into a dv camcorder that passes the data out through a firewire connector and into my computer as digital video.

    You should probably put a time base corrector somewhere in the chain

      Can anyone recommend a good affordable TBC? I’ve been looking for one for a while but can’t find any, at least for an affordable price (under $1000).

      I have a few inside my house that I've tracked down from flea markets and antique stores. It seems like ebay has gotten real expensive lately.

      @@TheMediaHoarder I have a JVC HR-S6970 VCR which has a time based corrector built-in. I think many S-VHS VCRs have TBC.

      @@RockTo11 The only S-VHS machine I have is play-only. I have a D-VHS also which I just use for the prerecorded movies made for that format, tried running stuff through that once and didn’t seem to make any difference.

    I wouldn't mind a to expensive course. I'm looking into digitizing vhs tapes as a side hustle. But doing it properly.

    i been working with vhs and svhs for 35 years, , i would never use a cheap tape rewinder,,, to hard on the tape as most of them dont have slow down feature that vcrs have, and could damage tape or stretch it at beginning and end etc.

    The Recorder of the still Image and the Videograbber can be used SEMIprofessionally.

    Actually, NOT ALL adapters are the same, I have a Dazzle DVC100 and a EasyCAPture and both do not work and I cant find the new firmware anywhere, both of their websites have dead links...so knowing the set up would be amazing. The cable, the RCA adapter, the program. I don't let other folks transfer my stuff.

    To copy a video tape its gonna take real time to copy it. If the video tape is 30 minutes long its gonna take 30 minutes to copy it, not including prep time of course.
    This brings up a question. If you go back to when movies were originally being copied to video tape how was that done? Did it take two hours to make a copy or did they have high speed tape copy machines and do these still exist?

    How would I go about doing this with PAL/SECAM tapes in the USA?

    • @TheMediaHoarder
      @TheMediaHoarder 5 місяців тому

      You would need a VCR that can play PAL and SECAM, most capturing software will work with them.

      I did that exact thing. I have a JVC HR-S6970, which also supports S-VHS and S-VHS ET.
      (apparently, even with non-S-VHS tapes, using the SVideo cable gives an uplift in quality over the regular composite cable)
