i love how he bluntly doesn't know how to control his voice nor has a good voice but still manages to make all his songs sound magically amazing and outstanding, this is what we call pure talent and genius
his voice isn't really "not good" he just doesn't know how to control it yet. his voice is actually pretty good and suited for the genre for sure.
edit: he hits most notes and I assure you he knows when he's off, as you said, pure talent, and with that I would assume he has semi perfect/perfect pitch. just a thought.
I think it's the rawness and the lack of polishment that makes it so charming
I've seen tfb live a few times and his voice sounds different when he's: nervous, drunk or been touring for a long time. He probably didn't warm up properly or was nervous. Brian is good at singing but not in a conventional way which is what's so charming about it. He definitely knows how to control his voice because he knows what to emphasise depending on the vibe of the room.
Folk punk is supposed to sound wonky 🤷🏼♂️ I’m sure he can belt and be super clean but for the sake of the style he just chooses not to .

my favorite thing about the front bottoms is that no matter how big they get they genuinely just feel like a couple of dudes who make music sometime. I've never seen a band this personal, even bands that project themselves as personal it always ends up feeling like a façade but tfb is the real deal.

I understand you don't like the music but here I go. You said the message was rather strange. Well to me it is a real life message. To me the front bottoms music flows like a real life conversation and that is one reason I love them. Brian is trying to explain how he would do anything he had to be with the girl is he singing about. He feels as though he is drowning in his love for her. That is what I get out of it anyway and I think it's beautiful. His voice is different but in a good way

I love that he's not that good at singing or playing guitar. making his lyrics stand out
He's very good at playing guitar. This song is very simple to play. And his voice is good too, he doesn't have amazing range or anything but his voice is raw and packed with emotion.
+Marita Bray I love The Front Bottoms, but what he plays does not take much technique or skill, so I wouldn't consider him 'Very well'.

But that was not my point. I love The Front Bottoms and how their music is made up, I even saw them live last week. But that does not take away that his guitarplay is not that genius. He is no Hendrix or Slash. He does well at what he plays, but it's not the hardest music to play.
+Frankie Cocker I love technic music like Animals As Leaders or CHON, but at the end the what I enjoy the most is the music wich I can have fun listening or playing, no need to be a shredder to be a great guitar player!
