Thanks for these amazing POV videos along with all of your other videos! You've inspired me to start my macrophotography journey this past weekend. Great fun so far!
Every day you learn something new, and today I've learnt about ladybirds 😁 Wow! I had no idea that this pretty looking insect is actually a ladybird's larva. Thanks a lot for this video Micael, another great job!
This channel is an inspiration for me. Went out today for general shooting, and ended up clipping my Raynox 150mm on and just focusing on macro all day :D.
That flash is pretty cool. My current rig is an Olympus em10 mkII with the Meike flash you made a video about a while back and the Laowa 50mm. Need to make a Pringle’s diffuser next. Thanks for the work you do
I have the pentax q which is an even smaller ILC but there is no dedicated macro lens so the options are extenders, close-up addon lens are adapter. It has a built-in flash and a hot-shoe.
The lack of an articulating display is a big limitation, especially at my age. I have a grip on my GM5 that helps with handling. It was made of aluminum by a machinist, but you can craft one using thermal set clay and attach with double-stick tape.
Its crazy how much i have learned from your videos in the last month since i started watching. I was using the build in flashes on both my Canon and Sony until recently. Which wasnt optimal ofc. So i figured out i need to follow your advice and get a nice flash. But i couldnt find a reasonably priced one in my area and i am still trying to keep my equipment purchases moderate for now and hate buying online if i dont habe to. Thats when destiny hit and i was checking old shelf dusters at work to put em on sale. I was able to grab a Hähnel Modus 360 RT for 30 bucks instead of the original listing price of 180 thanks to my boss giving me a crazy discount to get rid off it. An absolute steal. Its a nikon shoe but still works wonders after manually setting it up and fits perfectly on both my cameras. The difference in quality is amazing. Wouldnt have checked for that piece specifically if it werent for your helpful videos. So u somehow send me in the right direction to find that treasure. Keep up the good work and great content mate. I love your channel. Cheers and greetings from austria.
The GM1's pop-up flash can optically trigger a big flash like the Yongnuo 560 even at very low power, so you can get the benefit of lightweight one-handing your camera while holding the off-camera flash to get better control of light angle, and fast recycle times for freehand focus stacking. I find that setup better to use than an on-camera flash. I did loads of macro with nikon 1's that way, and even with my fuji xt3 i pop the included baby flash in the hotshoe to use it as a trigger (i only have nikon TTL flashes, but one day i'll buy a proper fuji radio trigger setup).
Wish I can show you the picture, I have an Olympus EP5, come with a tiny flash light, it can be plugged into the hot shoe, but the portable viewfinder has to be taken out, without the viewfinder I found it too difficult to manually focus in bright daytime. But the tiny flash is very useful for macro, the result is cool, about the same size as the pop up flash light of the Lumix
Very nice setup. I truly find it amazing that you are able to get workable images with a shutter speed of 1/50. How are you doing it? I personally am unable to get a non smeary image below 1/200
The secret is to use a flash and to not take photos when direct sunlight hits your subject - that way the flash will stand for almost all the light. The flash is super fast at 1/16 in strength, maybe 1/20 000 s - so it will not matter if you use a slow shutter speed.
@@MicaelWidell Yes, I now remember that you’ve said that in a previous video. I’ll give it a try. I personally use TTL and maybe it doesn’t work so great for low shutter speeds - just a thought.
I have notice that focus peaking on lumix doesn't as well with manual lenses on close up shallow depth of field scenarios compared to native lenses, even at high I get very little peaking on areas that are clearly focus on the screen when using some old manual lenses.
Have you tried changing the "detect level" setting for the Focus Peaking? Try all three settings and see if it becomes better. On my Lumix cameras I think the peaking works pretty well even with manual lenses.

Very cool! I have both the GM1 and GM5. Gotta try more of this with my 30mm Lumix macro lens.
Tack för intressant innehåll!

Thank you for your comment and I am happy I pushed you in the right direction :)
Im now interested with macro photography.
Nice vid Micael. Have you thought about a grip for the camera? One should make it more comfortable....
I think there is a grip, but this setup does not give me good enough image quality so I'm not going to invest time in getting the grip.
How does the size of that Fuji flash compare to the Meike MK320? Have you also tried the native Panasonic FL-70 that comes with the GM5?

Ah that could be an interesting option, thanks!
That's how I use my GM1 with a small Godox.

thanks for sharing the mosquito bites😄
Your jugaad is amazing for diffuser 👌👌😅
Not tried the Olympus with in camera stacking and bracketing?

Hi, what's your opinion with using a plastic defuser pushed on the flash body...cheers
Often they are too small to give you a good diffusion. They need to be pretty big.
Better off with the gx80 I would of thought , still small but better process engine.
Same setup on a newer sensor would be nice then.
Unfortunately there is no camera as small with a newer sensor
@@MicaelWidell The GX800 is almost as small but lacks a hot shoe :(
What insect spray did you use? Most important question xD
Haha. A common Swedish DEET-based one called Mygga which is the Swedish word for mosquito. www.apotea.se/mygga-original-spray-75-ml
haha mosquito bites
