I really like your happy dance and love your story telling about your dad when you do the final polish. I often text my sons right after to remind them that they are great fathers.
honestly i never seen somebody that so proud and loving of his father as you are. Feels like not a day goes without you reminiscing about him
I appreciate your artisan history very much. My father loved gemstones and what I call rocks and when he can home from a far away vacation he would brought back 5 kg stones he got on the side of the road. They became part of our house decor much like the coconuts & sea sponges & conch shells. My dad just loved nature. I would have loved it if he had decided to become a gem cutter like the time he decided to become a farmer and the next time decided to become a 18-wheel driver. He drove at his last award 6 million miles without an accident but drove a few million more after that. Farmer not so much but we gave it valiant efforts.
Similar dads 😊
It's really nice to see a new video Justin! I typically watch your videos with my morning pipe and coffee, before my farmwork, and find them to have a very zen like effect on my day. Thank you sir!
This was a relaxing video. I actually like that you do many different styles of videos, from silly and fun, to quiet and focused. Mixing it up makes it more engaging to stick with you long term. I never get bored!
Thank you for saying so Annabelle
What a beautiful opal. It appeared to be more technical cut than usual. I love the narrative and the choices you made to enhance mother nature's work of art. Simply beautiful.
Justin, I've been following your channel for maybe 3 or 4 years and for me, that is the stone I would buy and mount for my daughter. It's absolutely captivating. Don't misunderstand, I'm only an ameture jeweller, but I can see that stone around her neck and then being passed to her daughter. Fingers crossed for the lotto and you'll be getting my order. Hahaha. I did enjoy the format of this video. It was very polished and professional looking. 👍
Thank you Jim
I have to tell you these videos have been so soothing for me as these last couple yrs have been really hard. So thankful for your talent. Thank you for sharing with us all. Be blessed in all you do..💖🌦🌈
Also love hearing about your father..his legacy lives on through you, he did well..
Hi Justin, your introspective videos always have such a peaceful quality to them. And they're just as full of opal information as your regular instructional type style. Such as, I wasn't aware there's any other way to cut and polish an opal other then by hand, one at a time. Or that opal cutters are becoming a dying breed. Watching your skill and love for these beautiful, unique gemstones, I have to believe you light the opal spark in the next generation. Peace and love to you and yours, thank you for sharing your devotion with us.
I like it. All the way from rough to finished, with plenty of explanation. The cutting is shortened, the narration is not real-time but more well thought out, so the focus is on education and carefully curated anecdotes. At under 10 minutes, this is a banger when it comes to educational value and skript quality.
This is a great introduction / front page Video for both your Website and UA-cam Channel. So much value in under 10 minutes, still does not feel rushed. Highlight it, as this is a great pick for the very first of your videos someone new to you should see.
Oh I love this video...love to hear you tell stories. Love your work Justin. This one is maybe one of my favorites I've watched you cut. And I think I've seen them all! Thank you for taking your time to make this for us.
I just love these vids, I can hear you clearly, I don't have to hear you answer the same questions the 50th time and I can enjoy learning from you. ❤️
Justin you have to know there are many thousands of people around the world who would love to learn from you as an apprentice. You have enormous amounts of experience and knowledge about your trade. Hopefully soon you can share your knowledge in person to others. 🙂
Wow that turned out even more bright than anticipated, love those rolling green flashes over blue
The video was great. The stone was simply gorgeous!
🙏
What a gorgeous gem. Loved watching each step of the process
WOW!!! Another Gorgeous stone cut! Beautiful!💜🎉
Thank you
That was magical Justin, what a fabulous gem. The blue/greens are my favourites and this one should make someone very happy
I loved your narrative, which was interesting and informative, keep up the good work. Lorraine , in Crete
Another in the W column. With our lives being devoid of Justin the past few weeks, we cherish every one of the 583 seconds in this video. I agree that taking all the cracks out is vital to the value and stability of the final gem(I learned all I know from you) 😀.
Personally, I would have polished the reverse side as well. But thats me.
"Smaller than I'd prefer"... says the guy with a 5 and a half carat beaut. Oh you were so deprived. /s
I did really like this video, every part of the process detailed and given its due, close up. I do my best to watch how you hold the gem and move it on the wheel to create the shape, the dome, and the beveled edge on the bottom. I know that, with my particular set up, I cannot emulate your motions exactly buy it gives me a reference for how I can proceed. Ultimately I have to modify the process. Someday maybe I'll own something akin to the gemmaster. A dream for now.
Glad to see you're back and I cannot wait until the next live!
Thanks Justin, for the video, the chance to watch you work, and the knowledge you share as well as the inspiration to try my hand at my own opal journey.
P.s. diamonds may be bright and beautiful, but they are very plain (in my opinion) when compared to a top gem opal.
P.P.S. when are the BOD parasols going to be available?
Thank you for the kind feedback Don I can always rely on you to give constructive feedback and compliments
Loved that Gem, it's special.
it's nothing but magic. thank you for showing us this wonderful gems and your amazing works
Opals are my favorite stones. You're killing me with this one. I feel faint ❤
Love this type of more straight to the point, factual video. Thanks!
Hello Justin! I just found your channel a couple of days ago. I AM HOOKED! I have binge watched so many videos in the past couple of days. It is a roller coaster of emotion as you cut! I have always loved opals so having the ability to watch this has been incredible. I don't think I will ever be in a position to own one, but I can appreciate the beauty this way! My daughter keeps finding me on the edge of my seat watching with my jaw agape alternating with talking to the TV agreeing! I think you seem to be such a good kind man. That's what makes the videos so watchable. I have to say that when I heard you say that your videos put people to sleep, I really understand that! It's not boredom, so don't be offended, it's more your voice and the grinding wheels that are soothing in a way, almost like one of those relaxation tapes! If you decided to get out of opals, at least you know you can do relaxation videos!!
I text my friend last night and said, well I need some grinding wheels and some opals! I wanna do it myself! I also started making everyone else watch too! Lol
Anyway Justin, thank you for sharing your knowledge and your work! It has been a real pleasure to watch!
Thank you Wendi
Your videos are as good as they get . Every Opel is different so there for you never cut the same way twice .
Keeping the tradition alive. Not knowing your dad but I'm thinking that would make him happy.
What a fine piece of work, great result. A different look for me, big patterns with bright turquoise, deep lavenders, purple in a crystal? Not familiar with why it is considered black opal w/o the potch. Had no idea there are crystal black opals; I like very much Australian regular crystal opal but this is the first black crystal that I've seen knowing that's what it is. It's fun to scrutinize after your efforts, which are so relaxing to watch, even knowing it may not be for you! You do this labor of love and we don't have to stress over it, just wait in a lovely zone of anticipation, and this result was perfectly beautiful for me. I would have guessed more valuable than your estimate. Thank You, again for the pleasure of seeing someone so knowledgeable do this interesting profession/craft producing this time a very nice, desirable work of art from 21st century Australia and you! Looking forward to your next video.🤗
You're such an effective teacher that I was recently able to cut an absolutely gorgeous Coober Pedy for a friend's wedding ring, and I cut it well enough the jeweler was impressed. So, thank you! Now I just have to get ahold of some more really nice rough hahaha
Absolutely gorgeous gem!
I thank you for the shows that you do I have learned a lot just watching them thank you Justin God bless you and yours. PS you have made me a opal lover. maybe one I'll meet you .
Thank you Steven and mission accomplished 😆
Good to see you back as was wondering where you were. Hope you are well. As always a great video. I enjoyed this as much as your funny ones. I do enjoy a sense of humour, especially nowadays…a bit of variety is good so keep on doing what you do as it’s all good! Best wishes from Scotland. 👋 🏴
Stunning! The depth in that stone in incredible. Dont think I have seen anything like it. Amazing!
It's absolutely gorgeous 😍 ❤️ 💕 I love it. Awesome job Justin 👏 👍 🙌
Thank you Cathi
nice gemstone cut thank you for sharing the adventure and information 😀
That's beautiful 😍
Justin the one opal you have from your dad's old house is beautiful and holds sentimental value mate. I personally think the voice over is better for you and your health. You are not stressed out about explaining everything to us viewers.
Thanks James yes it is a little bit easier
What a beautiful opal! ❤️
Great video. Thank you.
Another beautiful opal !!! Thank you very much for sharing your profession and knowledge with all of us. Please continue to share all of your wonderful videos with us. Thank you Justin !!!
Absolutely stunning !
I wish you lived closer to me! I would love to learn from you and carry the torch and keep a dying skill alive.
Liked the video alot! Very calming and informative. Straightforward. I liked it. Thank you for all that you do.
I really had no concept about this amazing craft and I have learned a lot from watching your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your passion in life! 😊
My pleasure 😊
Oh, it is so beautiful!
Its pretty cool that your dad taught you and now your teaching us, i actually started cutting opal 1.5 years ago just by watching all your videos and now making it my full time job along with making jewellery (went to school for that though haha). Truly grateful that your father taught you all those years ago, and you teaching us. I like to think that this is how people live on even after they pass. He would be immensely proud to have a son like you.
I loved the video. Thanks for sharing your passion with us.
My pleasure!
Beautiful! Even a "cheap" opal is far better looking than the most expensive diamond.
well wow i think its absolutely beautiful you are class at what you do justin great video
Beautiful
I enjoy watching your lives (please don’t get rid of them, it’s where your fan base can meet and chat), but I really like these types of videos too. It’s a more relaxed educational video. I can fully concentrate on what you’re saying and it feels like a personal 1 on 1 training when you do these. BTW, WHERE did you get your torch? I haven’t been able to find a similar one. About a year ago you mentioned possibly selling them on your site.
Yeah I’m still working on the torch. Sorry
This is one of your best videos with one of your best stones. I like the casual no-nonsense approach without the dramatic theatrics. Also like the close-up shots of the gem and the fact that you showed the polishing and finishing the back. Keep it up!
Good feedback thank you
you are so rude why would you say nonsense?.dont listten to him justin we love your talk and joke and every thing in your videos.❤️❤️❤️
@@daykangemcutting8679 He wrote 'no-nonsense', which has a completely different meaning. Plus the sentence was preceeded with "I like". There was no negativity in his comment at all.
I am unsure of what "nonsense" you're implying happened in previous videos. I find Justin to be great to watch, and believe he has risen to this point by being himself. I see no need to change to a "no nonsense" version. This isn't a training video.
@@SurvivalAussie he means last videos had nonsense in them and he liked this one because it didnt had it?dont you agree?
Good morning. New to your channel and super exited with what you do. Thanks for the effort and hard work. Regards James
Welcome James
Another beautiful peace
I love what you do.
And I’m no expert,, but geez. Sometimes I nearly cry watching your dust go down the drain.
Your work looks fantastic.
Maybe there is another way.
just beautiful!
Amazing 👏 technique, and a fabulous 👌 story with it,churr bro 👌
Amazing video. Beautiful.
Sir, I have enjoyed your videos/lessons very much....and have had a go, albeit with common stones, so your knowledge is being paaed on....thank you. BTW, I love opals more than any bloody diamond!
I like it , you’re doing great !
Loved this video.
Absolutely beautiful… I’ve always thought that diamonds were boring.
Amazing video! You are a master!
This is a great style of video, a spectacular stone that you've spent time thinking over and are cutting while not distracted by the peanut gallery (us) 😂
😂😂😂
Definitely loved the more professional presentation.
Just stunning......one day I'll have one 😊
I'm pleased you had a great father, he passed on some great traits and I'm sure you will pass them on. (I have four sons and they keep me young)
To me, there’s no diamond that can come close to the beauty of opals... Nothing can change my mind.
Beautiful gem my friend 👌 having never cut opal before personally I bet I could do a half way decent job on one just from what I have learned watching your videos 👌you da best bud 😁
Let me start by saying you are amazing at what you do with raw opal.
I understand wanting a symmetrical shape but it looked like you sanded away 2/3 of the stone just for symmetry. But to make another oval when so many exist should make you consider free-form shapes or at least a different shape, maybe something not so common but still symmetrical.
Again, you are fantastic at what you do with opal but just consider trying free-form because it's extremely difficult to watch you sand away so much beauty is heart breaking.
I have a feeling that any shape you choose will be out of this world and look beautiful because you can see what is underneath the raw ore.
You have a gift.
Loved the video plz don’t change
I do love an irregular shaped opal
Wow that was a nice stone
Wow that was so great. A black crystal. Thanks for adding another item for my opal bucket list. Hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for sharing . Taco Time
I wish my dad had sat down and taught me things like that. Dad was a big time oil engineer and he was rarely home. He mostly ignored me when he was.
He might not have been taught by his dad how to be a dad. If so you can break the cycle with your kids if you have or intend to have
So really Pretty..x
Beautiful 🌺☀️🌈
Loved the video and adore that stone. I would take an opal over a diamond any day!
Nice opal. Video is just fine. The only thing that I would add to video is the opal being boxed with my mailing address on it. Great work. Your father did very well in your training. Good day. 🇺🇲🍺
Sucks you had to go so small with it but it is a very beautiful opal and you did an amazing job cutting and grinding and polishing it to it's beautiful state
Enjoyed your video and so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Im just starting out in opal cutting have a little bit of ridge but lots of boulder just struggle with getting a perfect symmetrical shape atm could you please do a video on shaping i live in Queensland not that far from opalton thx justin love the videos btw ;)
What a lovely opal! Did you sneak back to the old shop or are you getting a more comfortable in the new one! LOL! This video just had a touch of the old vibe and it felt great!
That’s great to hear Michael. New shop vibes though
Beautiful gem! I miss the sound of the wheels though.
Love your videos :) if I may ask, did you not polish the back to get a slight bit more amount of carats out of the opal? Unfortunate about the sand spot. Even though I couldn’t buy this, if I had it I wouldn’t even blink at the sand and would prefer both sides polished. But yeah what’s the thought process there as a cutter?
It still can be done and requested by the buyer for me to do 😊
If I could live anywhere else on the planet, next door would work.
You have inspired me to learn how to cut opal. Every video is a learning tool! Rough opal is expensive but I am trying. Question I bought an old batch of opals from an antique shop. When I opened the jar the smell was horrible. Can this damage a stone? Many of them were beautiful Australian but that smell. ...
Haha sometimes the pickled onion jar hasn’t been cleaned properly before they put the rocks in it 😂
Hello Justin, Can you tell the difference in Australian Opal and Ethiopian opal and their price difference also. Thanks
Beautiful, couldn't it have been double-sided Afterall, when looking at it in the final shot?
Beautiful mate. Pity it didnt go double sided but still amazing.
Video was really well done.not as good as a live but really good.
It was so sad to see that sand stay in that stone it would have been a twice as beautiful at the other side came up clean as well but thank you for explaining what you were doing and why you were doing what you were doing
I am a novice opal cutter and im only 44 years it wont die out m8
Do you still have this stone? I'm interested in it. I see something in the pattern that means something to me
What a beauty and a legacy. It’s too bad that as soon as the stone leaves your studio the provenance of the stone cutter is lost.
I tried accessing your website but it seems to be a broken link. Can you please share a link where we can purchase? Love your cuts. Radhey, from India :)

Missed the noise but the information transfer was more efficient
Thanks for the feedback James
I was just wondering, do you own a house elf named doppy?😁😄👍
How did you know lol
