Couple of things. First, there is now a 15” Travoce. Second, passive radiators absolutely do need tuning. In fact, they’re a bit harder to tune than a port is.
Thanks man. The current one I have up is from elite screens in for review. It's one of their ALR screens. Pretty nice as well, just a different price bracket.
SVS use DSP to tune the sound, the new Trevoce will have DSP built in which will give you more extension. Plus no port sealed cabinet will give you fast response.
Another useful video, this sub must be flavour of the month, as it’s seems to be doing the rounds with few different UA-camr’s. Your son steals the show again...😀
Haha yea he is a natural for the camera 😉 I think OSD found the value in social media and youtube advertising. They have some pretty cool products coming down the line
@@LifeofBliss Yeah it seems that way, you might have to retire soon and let Junior take over..!, also OSD looks like great little brand, hope they get the success they deserve.
I just bought the 2nd generation OSD Trevoce 12s with built-in DSP. Texas Instrument EQ & digital filter, "flattens the bass down to 18HZ" so they say, but I don't know if I need to do DSP adjustments to get 20 HZ like using iWoofer app ?
Sounds very nice with Deep hard hitting low bass. Had to remove the LFE and use the Dual RCA and put my Onkyo receiver crossover at 50 HZ, LFE to Off. Subwoofer knob all the way Up to 200 HZ to bypass it. Action movies with bass scenes sounds good. But most movies 60-80 HZ on the Receiver is better. Expendables 3, Aquaman, Everest, Transformers I put at 50 HZ. I will try DSP adjustment using an App later on
Thanks 🙏 You really do the best review videos. You go over a lot of details and you explain things very well. love seeing your little man helping you with the big 24 inch sub.💪 Looking forward to see some more video reviews and by the way new subscriber here.👌💯
Upf, was the measurement done in the center of the room where we saw it in the video ? I know bass frequency response is always room dependent and your room is huge with and odd shape. Have you tried to measure it when placed in a corner ? Does that bring the lower 30s up ? Cuz for this price the PB-1000 is a no brainier compared to this. Yes you get no port noise, it's smaller. It reaches 115db at ~50hz in your room, but after EQ you will lose a lot of that. So 106db flat is nice for the size but i would get 3db lower in SPL and reach down to 17hz flat for movies at least. For music most songs don't reach under 30 so this will perfect. But after seeing the measurements i don't think that placing it in a smaller room would bring the low end that much.
Working on getting that done. They sent their amp that they used as a loaner and took on the road to shows. Had an issue, they are assessing it and sending a new one soon. With some speakers to review as well 🤘
Nive little sub for not a lotta $! But with a shoestring budget, I had the budget of the 10" model but ended up with a 900w amp, 4 twelves, and a quad twelve box. Absolutely pounds and I don't dare turn it up. Can't imagine 24" subs!
Here's the thing: the range of hearing for a normal human is 20Hz - 20kHz, both ranges deteriorate as you get older (moreso in the high end, but you definitely lose some lower end response as well). Most speakers that aren't behemoth 15" or 18" (or larger) - which don't fit into most people's homes anyway - won't produce anything below 30 or 40Hz anyway, and you'd have a hard time finding any that break below that without spending an excessive amount of money. What you get in that 20Hz range for movies is simply rumble, and, again, in most people's homes that don't have dedicated home theaters, the graph shows a perfectly reasonable EQ curve. I get why you might not like it compared to your normal system, but, personally, I don't want a subwoofer that takes up a quarter of my living room... let alone stare at a wall of speakers. And my wife wouldn't be too happy with it either.
Well the PB-1000 reaches into the 17hz and audyssey makes it almost flat (i have done measurements). It can reach 100db at listening position and the max i've measured is 106db. Yes it's a bit bigger than this one and it's even cheaper. My room is huge for it so people in smaller rooms or non opened one would probably reach higher SPL because of the low end gain.
Doug, I agree, hard to get down low without some serious cone area. And not everyone is looking to spend thousands for mini fridge sized enclosures to get that. I found the EQ curve respectable as well. Quetzalcoalt, I'll kinda reply to both of you comments here. Yes SVS makes great subs. I've had their PC-4000 in for review and it rocked! I do have a large room and the sub was placed on the front wall with the mic in the listening position for measurements. I'm not sure what the PB1000 or SB1000 would measure down here... I'm sure corner loading it would give a few db bump, but you are right, probably won't do much for down low. I didn't wire my room to have a passive sub in the back corner, so I put it where I would place it if I were using it long term. I've spoken with OSD about the sub and they have the mind set that higher spl is more impactful for movies than the super low notes. Not that they aren't important, but they went that route with designing this sub. They should have something out later this year that will dig a little deeper, hopefully I can compare at some point. We will see... But comparing measurements with yours, 106 db max vs 115 db max is a decent difference. It looks like it would perform like OSD designed it to against the sub you have. Won't reach the lower extension as well, but will have higher SPL in the 30 Hz+ range. Again, different rooms, but just looking at what we have available. Here's one more thing to think about, and not bashing any brand or sub... Sure, some of the smaller enclosures are rated or claimed to have significant output at 20 Hz. But even if they are reaching 95 dB, even 100 dB at 20 Hz... That's still what I would consider a moderate level of bass. Then to make it flat, you're bringing the rest of the entire sub range down to that level. A 10 or 12 inch sub is not going to reach reference type levels in a room at 20 Hz. You gotta have more air movement. It's not to say that these sub's aren't awesome sounding and good for the money... You just have to have the right expectations for what you're looking it. There will be compromises with any setup, whether it be SPL, low end extension, size, flat response... If there was a perfect speaker, we'd all have it ;) Idk, just my thoughts. Like I've mentioned, this is just another option in the pool of sub $600 subwoofers out there. Look at the data and see what's most important to you
@@LifeofBliss Totally agree. I just though that using two passive radiators would be like using a bigger box with a port to get the low frequencies, and reach at least 22-24 hz. Also they say it plays down to 20hz. But i think that the placement made the bad low end response. Also most movies don't have that much bass below 30hz. I think you've read the ultimate bass graphs of movies thread on AVS forum and you know people complain, that's why the BEQ app was created. It is what it is :). I like that companies send more stuff for you to review. Especially stuff that other UA-camrs don't get, like that monster of an amp with the two power cords and 6-7k power :P. Just a small question, i know you are busy but how is the BOSS going ? :P
Yea its definitely nice getting to dive into the performance of some of these products and let people know. I think Joe n Tell was able to get a few Hz lower in his room, like 26 or 27 before it dropped? Youthman has 2 of these as well for review, so I'm interested to see what sort of numbers he gets. Placement definitely can effect things pretty drastically. There was a small delay on that giant amp, we're working on getting another for the review video. It was their loaner that had been to a few other reviewers and several shows around the country, so it was in several different hands before mine... Man... the BOSS... Idk if thatll be happening anytime soon. I have a plan for some nearfield subs that I really want to get done soon. We'll see how those go. I may trade a few of the nearfields for the BOSS platform down the road. We shall see...
Question for ya.. so I plan on going 12s from my ported single 10... Space is an issue soon giving this some thought.. I demoed some sb-2000s today and in a home theater setting was sooooo underwhelmed.. like I knew they were sealed but my God it was poor... These being passive radiators what more would you lean-to them as closer to someone that wants ported or someone that wants sealed? The price is right, the box size is right but my single ported 10 was more my speed over sb-2000 all day.. what's your thoughts?
You'll definitely get some more output from the PR box over sealed. These have good spl, but you're going to miss out on the lower frequencies. They don't dig down into the lower 20 Hz region. Always a compromise somewhere...
I don't my bass that much was thinking about getting another but I feel like I didn't set my setup correctly. Do you have a video on how to set up bass and speakers?
My 10" lasted a month and a half before needing to RMA it. Started making a high pitched signal sound 70% of the time it was powered on. Didnt matter whether the sub cable was plugged into the amp or disconnected with just the power cable in. Waiting for the replacement hoping it doesnt happen again.
The Trevoce has 3 speakers, similar to the Definitive Technology Supercube SC2000 (7.5 in, 650 watts) and Supercube SC4000 (8 in, 1200 watts) and SC6000 (10 in, 1500 watts) My 2 rooms setup: ua-cam.com/video/tCFWlgfOuN8/v-deo.html
