I have been getting asked a alot , what are some use cases? See example A - ua-cam.com/video/F6Vfc8eAlF4/v-deo.html
Ok, the big question of all times is how to run VST effects prcessed on PC/mac and have it as an insert to a live mixing console.
So far, the simplest option was to connect your console via USB to the PC/mac and route it back but this would introduce some latency (7 - 14 ms).
Now, Yamaha says its RUIO16 can get the signal over Dante, send it to PC/mac over USB, run the VSTs, get it from the PC/mac and sent it back to a console over the Dante, AND have a decent amount of latency (
Hi. Thanks for the detailed explanation. Please tell me if I can use this device for a backing track? or does it only work as a plugin?
Hi, is the headphones amp of this sound device transparent? I am searching the best sound card with minimum coloration for mixing on headphones only.
wouldn't recommend this, VERY hard to get support and if you lose your VST rack serial, or a computer dies with the software installed there is simply NO way to retrieve your license.
I would disagree. I had to move my vst license a few times and had to call steinberg and talk it out. Sure, it was a process. But not impossible. Monday - Friday standard business hours is decent customer service.
I have 3 calls and an email thread with both Steinberg AND Yamaha and still been waiting on just an eLicense. If you purchase the software. Then download their “download” software and install it, then link your product to their software with an activation code, then dig into their .zip folder for the installer for THAT software, then install that software only to still need an eLicense NOT available in your account anywhere I think maybe that’s a bit much for a goddamn program that runs like any other daw. Live professor works way better especially with midi and has half the steps to install it and I’m currently running it on major arena/stadium stages all over the world while I wait for “Steinberg” to get back to me.
just wanted to note: after the 00:15:00 mark I had made some errors on what I said, the solutions and correct answers can be found below here in the comments, please reference them. I simply made a few mistakes, I am far from perfect. The purpose of these videos is always educational. I do plan an actual latency test in the future. As always I very much welcome comments and corrections. Its what helps us all improve!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and problem solving experience.
My basic set up is
M2 Mac Air - Dante Controller - Caldigit TS4 - Managed Router - DM3-D .
Where does RUIO 16 Go in my Chain ??
Cheers mozzie 😊
It goes where you need it. If it were me, I would use it from a mix on the dm3-d. Send inputs into a mix, mix via Dante to ruio, return on a dm3 channel from ruio. But that’s just one way
Hello, how can I import the Waves plugins into the VST rack? Does this happen automatically?
This happens automatically
please note : at 00:15:41 you do not 100% need a my16 card. Only if you are trying to have dante inserted on a channel on a CL, in all other instances a my16 card is not required, but may still be useful depending on the intended signal flow. I certainly welcome any critiques. The purpose of all of my videos is to be helpful. I am far from perfect, If you feel I made an error or have any helpful additional information, please leave it In the comments.
Does this mean that you are getting more than 10ms latency? is this not audible at Front Of House?
It's less. I need to do a realistic latency test. I'm using it as I type this, it is not perceivable. To be fair, I could have dove into the latency more and did a better job with that
@@KINETICPROFESSIONALS okay, thank you
This seems to be a "replacement" for Waves Sound Grid. Is that a correct statement?
yes and no, depending on the use case - heavy plugin in use with automation ( I would still use waves sound grid). A couple plugins for calculated uses - this works great!
13:30 - Once you install the Steinberg driver for the RUIO, it does show up like any other usb audio interface and you can use it for inputs, outputs, and a headphone amp through the windows sound settings. 16:30 - This is also incorrect. You can power the RUIO by setting the switch to 5v DC and still have it communicate with the computer using the other port. All that does is select how the device is powered. It doesn't affect USB data at all.
Thank you for pointing out the inaccuracies. I do really strive for a level of accurate information, thats the point. Wondering if I should re shoot the video or just make
addendums. looks like I left some holes in this one.
@@KINETICPROFESSIONALS No problem. You have one of the only videos on youtube about the RUIO since its such a new device. After a month of ownership, you probably have used it enough to post a more in depth review. Thanks.
@@grantkondourajian6150 I plan on a part 2 where I address the corrections and actually perform a true latency test. Thanks again
Ahhh I’ve seen you vids before. Thx dude !
Thanks as well! Happy mixing
You stated at 15:55 that you need the Yamaha MY-16 card to bring signal into a console if you're using this device inline ("single flow"/before the console), instead of inserted within the console's channel strip. That is incorrect. If your console is Dante enabled (like a QL or CL), and you're using this pre-console, you do *not* need an MY-16 card. You only need one for a CL, if you intend to place it as an insert in the channel.
I had to re read your statement before I understood what you were trying to say. Sure. If your using it in a way that does involve an insert than yes, you do not need a my16 card. Example being , I'm treating the cl as a transmitter and another device is a reciever with the ruio inline. The question I was answering at that time stamp was intended to be inserting a plugin on a console channel , so I answered it that way. But yes, you are correct, a my16 card is not required for 100% all use cases on a Cl.
@@KINETICPROFESSIONALS @KINETIC PROFESSIONALS Again, I was reacting to you saying that a MY-16 card was necessary for using the RUio16 as an inline (pre-console) source. That's what you *said* (even if you were trying to answer a question regarding using the CL's on-board Dante for inserts, which cannot be done).
If possible, you should add a text overly disclaimer to the video there, clarifying that that's not true.
Other than that (and not mentioning that the XLR inputs have mic pre's and +48V, and not demonstrating the actual latency, and not mentioning that the Yamaha plugin host can do group(ed) latency compensation for multiple channels with differing plugins), the video was pretty good. 👍
@@jonny12key please see note : at 00:15:41 I certainly welcome any critiques. The purpose of all of my videos is to be helpful. Thank you for your input.
When you say "transmitter" do you mean to transmit "Dante" data... OR or you specifying audio signal transmission... It's very unclear right now at @03:33 (as the title of this video is specifically about RUIO16)
The lables for audio signal transmission In dante Controller are labled as "transmitter" and "reciever". That's what I mean when I say "transmitter". For example , in Dante controller a ulxd mic can only be a transmitter, because it is only a mic. Where a console, AND the ruio16 can have a transmitter and recieve path that is patchable.
Thank for the video. I got one of this devices but never used it because I did not know what do do with it. Now you just gave me some hope and will give it another try. Thank you for ALL your wonderfull videos!.
here is a good use case -ua-cam.com/video/F6Vfc8eAlF4/v-deo.html
So , 6 months later ? you still use it ?
All the time. There are so many different ways to use it
@@KINETICPROFESSIONALS Hi there, thanks for the video, you have great content! Could you do a video on the uses you are giving the RUIO16? Thanks!
@@LucasSlowWalker sure!
I use it often - here is one example ua-cam.com/video/F6Vfc8eAlF4/v-deo.html
@@LucasSlowWalker Just finished this video on one use case - see link ua-cam.com/video/F6Vfc8eAlF4/v-deo.html
Hey am I missing something? I have it routed in Dante exactly how you explain it, but my wireless mic is not hitting the VST rack... they are all on the same sample rate too... it's driving me insane! any help would greatly be appreciated!
I am using a QL1 and a Shure Axient reciever. The wireless microphone is being passed because I see it hitting my console. I also have the axient mounted via Dante on the console. Bypass is disabled. still nothing hits my VTS Rack...
Have you tried hitting the “bypass” button on the ruio16? It’s easily missed and has gotten me many many times.
@@KINETICPROFESSIONALS yes, that was my first go to, but it's still not hitting the vst rack. Do I have to do anything within the VST Rack? or Do I have to mount the ruio within the QL1?
