    This version is shorter than the original version which I have but, nevertheless, has been performed magnificently by Ms. Wang. The notes stream through her fingers like silver, each one clear and perfect. An excellent performance of a beautiful piece of music. Thank you Yuja Wang; and, especially, thank you Sergei Rachmaninoff.

    Gorgeous piano playing, just gorgeous! And at the same time she's knocking the hell out of the piano tunning - I love artistic people!

    Love the style. A TADD fast for me. But not to discredit Yuja! I have Fantasia by her, and it's doubly autographed, so you know I love her music! I do believe Horowitz has found a better interpretation however on this specific piece.

    As a choral singer, I love the Vespers, the symphonies, the great piano concertos, but this sonata left me far behind. I had no idea what Rachmaninoff was trying to do and I'm amazed that Yuja could get it in her head much less play it.

      Yes I am a pianist but this piece is completely new to me and heard it for the first time a few days ago. I find it puzzling and not very likeable. But Rachmaninov is sometimes not very approachable. I remember encountering the 3rd piano concerto where I had the same reaction at first. But after listening to ithe piano concerto many times and trying to play the work it eventually grasps hold of one and I now find the 3rd piano concerto a fascinating complex work beautifully written for the piano.
      Therefore I will persist in listening to this 2nd piano sonata.

    Too much me now:) but i have heard two versions of Horowitz playing this sonata. The late version is too abrupt and no floating, the first (carnegie hall 66) is bot too fast and with too little romantic sense. Yuja is FAR better here than even Horowits: She is an artistic genious! (My opinion, but i am pianoplayer, so know a little:)

      Johannes, please note the upload of a concert with 4 Yuja (3 Chopin) premieres by Mr.705JRC. Yuja sounds worse than ever, incredibly bad. Please go there, and listen and make an idiot of yourself. After that, perhaps Mr.Kura and your mother can get together to talk about your problems.

      CarbKid, for someone who dislikes Yuja Wang's interpretation, you certainly go out of your way in exercising your ricin laced mouth on EVERY SINGLE ONE of her clip. Was it a failed attempt at a music career in your youth, or is it a personal vendetta you got going against Yuja? Normally when someone dislikes a musician's interpretation, they move on and find another artist's rendition. Yet you, strangely attach yourself to every Yuja's clip and litter with sarcasm like a bitchy teenage girl's movie script. So we are curious, what's behind your rant? Don't bottle it all up now, it's not healthy.

      Here I am addressing Mr.Johannes' "special problems" because of the earlier exchanges I've had with him, and thus you are getting an echo of that. Usually my comments under Yuja's "clips" sound rather more genial and are intended to be helpful to the "general reader". Giving people the idea that Yuja's piano offerings on the YT can really get under somebody's skin is not that bad an idea, and, generally, I try to inject some real "commenting quality" into my posts.

      Oh you are not the general reader yourself? Sorry i forgot. You are old angry Texas man , the name Stan, who enjoys to distract with irrelevant, and hatefull comments. That you have moderate language gifts does not in the slightest way support your total lack of musical knowledge.

    +CarborundumKid Yuja Wang represents the most artistic and technical pianoplaying with expression to the limit - still in a tastefull way - in the world today. What went wrong for u old man i dont care, but you should be banned from you tube with your hatefull none relevant, irritating and wrong comments. Nobody cares about your opinion, but every line you write here is one line far too much. They take up too much space

      I wouldn't say she's bad, but your obvious hard-on for Yuja is probably clouding your judgement.

      Why would you even talk about hard on on her page. I think you need to get laid and probably never was. And you wouldn't think she is bad. I'm so happy to know that

      Johannes, maybe you can make some progress working on your "Yuja problem" by going to the "YW at the Barbican" video, uploaded by Mr.705JRC. Listen to her over 1 hr program and read all the posts. It might help you and help is what you need.

    It's very well played, but nothing out of the ordinary - and even a bit smudgy by over-pedaling. I think it's largely due to the 1931 version which shortchanges the epic structure and lines of the original. I like Horowitz' hybrid version best. I kind of wished she could have done the same.

    • @IsaacC20
      @IsaacC20 11 років тому

      You should listen to Marina Radiushina's interpretation even though it isn't a complete recording. It's on the tube somewhere. I think she uses the pedals very effectively. I like her interpretation more than Horowitz's.

    • @solbriller1
      @solbriller1 11 років тому +1

      No overpedalling at all - clear like silver - and its its Rachmaninoff:) Typical people who forehand have a favourite version of a piece of music and can then not accept/understand something better. But thats not all. Here on Yuja's page its absolutely not interestinf to see you critisize none relevant with ur liking of another performance:)) Many ppl makes that mistake here on You Tube on artists pages. Stupid! :) and wrong

    • @brtherjohn
      @brtherjohn 11 років тому +1

      Look, there's no sense of getting huffy about constructive criticism, and since she's a favorite pianist of mine, I think we're all entitled to an informed opinion. Two slight problems with this performance: it IS over-pedaled and it's an inferior revised version. I've studied this piece myself for over 30 years and the textures are hardly "clear like silver". Perhaps you meant crystal, as silver is rather opaque in nature....
