      The ❤️Good & 😡Very Bad
Just purchased a 2021 4Runner Limited, Blizzard White, Black leather, 3rd row seats, auto running boards,
      Vin JTEKU5JR0M5858032
had 11 miles purchased last week, 300 miles to date:
      Our 4th 4Runner
      The ❤️Good & 😡Very Bad,
      Positive
      ❤️Full time 4WD 3 modes:
1)4WD Hard Surfaces, advanced full time 4WD
2)4WD Transfer Case Lock HIGH GEAR:
Loose surfaces ONLY: Mud, dirt, snow, ice, sand (NOTE: can lock on the fly at any speeds, wheels straight)
3)4WD Transfer Case Lock LOW GEAR: For MAX Traction
Loose surfaces ONLY: Mud, dirt, snow, ice, sand
      This mode also has Selectable
      1)Advanced Traction Control Selector
      2)Down Hill Control Selector
NOTE: vehicle must be stopped, wheels straight, brakes depressed, in Neutral)
      ❤️Good Trunk Space
❤️Awesome suspension & drivetrain on Highway driving; corners and cross winds. Living in Colorado Springs going up NORAD Road on Cheyenne Mountain every day handles better than our Lexus RX450h.
No experience yet with off road, and on road snow and ice. Will update when experienced. Our Prior 2005 4Runner had same type of full time 4WD system & suspension. The 2021 Limited definitely has a more refined and updated version. We do miss the superior fuel economy and performance of our 2005 4Runners 32v V8, comfort of front seats and significant higher overall initial quality.
      ❤️Safety Technology
Nice Updates, will report as we get more experience with.
Major Unacceptable Initial Quality Issues & Design Flaws:
👎1)JBL15 Speaker Premium Sound System, sounds like every speaker is fried regardless of settings, No surround sound setting, did they install the correct main unit? Is the amp nit working? Our 2005 sound system is superior and as a sound and recording engineer the sound quality is totally unacceptable. Reported issue to JBL case number 07156115.
      👎2)INTERIOR LIGHTS Huge SAFETY Problems:
-😡2nd row passenger overhead light a total joke, way too dim and no passenger reading lights.
-😡No 3rd Row overhead lights or floor lights, trip hazard at night when getting in & out of 3rd row seats.
(My Parents 1977 Ford station wagon 2nd & 3rd row jump seats had superior overhead lighting with individual reading lights!)
-😡No backlighting for mirrors or dash dimmer switches, huge safety problem at night trying to find switches
-😡Poor backlighting on window & lock switches and door handles etc. Way too dim and some only partially light up. Unacceptable.
      👎3)Front Parking Sensors
      -😡No adjustment for distance
-😡No Front Parking Center Sensors, totally dysfunctional, unacceptable, worthless. Parking behind a pickup with a hitch and ball and another parking instance of a low center post revealed this design functionality flaw when parking For the front end of the vehicle. The cost for the additional front center parking sensors is insignificant on a $52,000 vehicle. What are we missing here??
      👎4)Missing Top Windshield Tinting
👎5)Missing Front USB Charging Port (can’t locate 2nd front USB charging port, as advertised “2 front USB ports, on for audio input/charging and the other charging”)
      👎6)Defective Driver Side Headlight
Huge shadowy spots, likely some of the LEDs are not working or debris in lens or
      design flaw
      👎7)Fog Lights
Beam aimed too low & does not have enough depth or width. Clearly from the parts bins, appear to be from our Lexus RX450h!
      👎8)Front Seats Quality & functionality
-😡Drivers seat has bizarre quality defect side dip in bottom center padding/springs.
-🙁Passenger seat no lumbar support or height control
-😡Front Seats Low quality stiff leather, lacking padding and support, unacceptable for this top of the line price point. Our 2005 4Runner we traded in with 176,000 miles has superior front seats in comfort, support, quality and overall functionality.
      👎9)Automatic Running Boards
-😡Squeak loudly, Rattle and Shake when extending & retracting.
      -😡Don’t extend low enough
      -😡Not wide enough
      -🙁Can’t install front mud flaps
(The automatic running boards came with vehicle, definitely not worth the $. They are “cheap”, tinny & dysfunctional in all aspects especially for Colorado Rocky Mountain Driving in the Winter and off road. The overall unacceptable low quality & functionality of the automatic running boards detract from the vehicle at this price point.)

I just purchased a new 2022 4Runner Limited. I must say, they are absolutely an outstanding vehicle.
I have owned just about every SUV on the market (English and German), and the 4Runner Limited trumps them all.
Having owned 3 Range Rovers and 2 BMW X5's, you get tired of the little issues constantly and not so little issues.
Yes, they are under warranty, however, it is a hassle.
And the biggest thing about these other brands is the depreciation---not doing that anymore.
Very sharp, very smooth ride, very elegant look with a sporty twist. It really can be dressed up or dressed down.
For '22, Toyota added a couple of great features including surround video.
Toyota hit it out of the park with this one!

Just got a 21 love it. Came from a 2000 Durango with 5.9 L that got totaled but was super clean, had it for 21 yrs. Toyota rides better because coil springs all around vs torsion bar in front and leaf's in the rear for Durango. Toyota is slow by comparison but That's not why i bought it (for speed). Also Toyota has a higher center of gravity so u cant drive 4 Runner aggressively like the Dodge. Didn't want the new Durango because its a unibody and more of a street performance design than a truck. although the new Durango has a much higher towing capacity than the Toyota. Cant go wrong with Toyota. Time will tell cause i bought this thing no financing outright, bought the extended service plan for 10 yrs. last truck was still good looking and reliable after 21 yrs. See if i can do it again.

but the reliability more than compensated. they were beast cars in snow and inclement weather. i was able to get both to 185,000 miles before the transmission died. if you travel a lot for work , buy it. during big snowfalls( 1 foot plus) , i was the only suv or car that could drive

Love my Shoreline Blue '12 4Runner Limited... 84,000 miles, just breaking it in 🤪 At 9 years.
    Note:
The Limited AWD does not go to 2WD....
    You have do have options:
H4F - regular AWD (full time)
H4L - hi speed locked AWD for Wet, slippery/ snowy roads etc.
L4L - low speed locked AWD for slow slippery mud, snow, hi torque situations.
My 2010 SR5 had the shift lever with 2WD, 4WD, & 4WD Locked low. Some models have those options with the lever or the knob, the Limited AWD doesn't offer 2WD, there was a Limited with 2WD only.
I loved my 2010 with rear wheel drive and 29 mpg. My 2012 Limited gets 16 mpg, but added heated leather, keyless entry/ push button start, Dual Climate Control, NAV, those 20' wheels, etc. The AWD Limited comes at an MPG cost.

An ederly dude pulled out of a Mexican restaurant in his Ford Flex & Totaled it. He was 86, we were both okay, but I heard he passed away at 87.
I bought the 2012 because the Insurance company cut me a check for just about what I paid for it with driving it a couple years with around 40k miles on it. It held value, so another one was a no brainer. Originally I wanted a 2010 FJ Cruiser....but they wanted too much $ for those.

@@drx06 Correct. The limited trim has a 4WD setup with a Torsen center differential that is lockable. When the center diff is unlocked, its full-time 4wd (H4F), which you can drive on dry pavement and any high traction surfaces for everyday use; when its locked (H4L), it locks the distribution of power power 50:50 front to rear, same as a part-time 4wd's 4H setting.

I’m retired from Toyota and just traded in my 2012 4Runner with 192,623 miles on it for the 2021 Limited 4Runner. Very disappointed that there is no blind spot metering, but the biggest downer is the LED lights. They have dark spots/shadows that hang down. Thought it was just my vehicle and then I started reading reviews and it seems to be an issue with a lot of the new buyers Of 4Runners. It’s very distracting. I’d take my Halogen lights back in a minute. Guess I’ll wait for an after market light to come out to replace. And yes, I’ve had Quality Managers at TMMI look at them and they couldn’t believe what a nuisance the dark shadows are with the LED lights in the new 4Runner. Sometimes Toyota designs go amuck without suppliers and this time is one of them and that’s from someone who retired from Supply Chain Management. Otherwise, it’s a great vehicle and I get a great discount on it so it’s hard to bite the hand that feeds me.😁

Seat isn't as soft as I'd like.
I've decided for the price I'll just go with a SR5.
I was going to wait but the offers available now since cover are really good.

If you've never driven one, then you wouldn't understand why these 4Runners are so special.
Yes, they're very outdated and utilitarian in design, but they're built to a higher standard than the domestic equivalent, in terms of longevity and durability.
They're not targeted towards the people that want the latest features and trade up every 1-2 years.
These are designed to drive long distances for many years/decades with minimal problems, then handed down to the next generation to enjoy.
Just bought a 2014 with 200k and it literally drives as new as the 2021 that I test drove the day before.

Everything's going to get more expensive including the 4 Runner. My dealer tried to sell me a new truck with a Scratch/dent in the door. We notice it after we made the deal but before we left the lot (thankfully) so they had to fix it and i chose to install running boards at the same time. JokerG16 for some countries they have tax systems based on engine displacement as it is widely regarded that bigger egines consume more fuel and is worse for the environment. So it encourages manufacturers to develop smaller but more powerful engines.
