- We planned on getting married in Hawaii on Sunday, May 24th (it's where I grew up and where majority of my family still lives). With shelter in place, travel restrictions, and uncertainty about the health/safety of our guests, we decided to have a virtual wedding that we held on Zoom. We got married from the comfort of our own apartment and it was more magical than we ever could have expected. To other engaged couples out there going through the uncertainty of wedding planning - it doesn't matter where you are or when it happens, but what matters is that you are with each other!

I love what you did, this is amazing! My fiance and I are thinking of doing this for our wedding in October - with or without Covid! Which camera did you have connected to Zoom, and was that camera stationary?
Thank you!! Highly recommend it! Still so special, you save a ton of money, and can safely invite everyone to celebrate virtually! :) We just had zoom open on my MacBook Pro! We made a makeshift stand with a table + put a box on top of it to raise the laptop up to center our heads! For filming, we also had a tripod set up with our Canon 5D Mark IV and another tripod set up with one of our iphones! We liked having a few different angles to put our video together later :) + backups in case one of them stops recording.

Thank you so much! It was definitely a special day! So many emotions as we were supposed to get married in Hawaii in May, then postponed until August. The moment we realized August probably wasn't going to happen, we decided on the virtual wedding! :)

Everyone can see each other! With Zoom, you can spotlight a certain screen so that is the main focus though :)

Congrats!! How long was the entire video ceremony?
The actual ceremony portion was about 15 minutes, then we did our first dance, cake cutting, and speeches. That altogether took about 45 minutes and then we had 45 minutes of dancing at the end!

Can I hire someone to officiate online? Do they have to live in the same state I’m getting married in?
I'm not sure if this changes by state/county rules, but we were able to have our officiant virtually at the time we got married. Our officiant happened to be one of my husband's friends who was registered as an officiant. It's easier if their closer to you since they do need to sign off on your legal wedding paperwork. We were able to mail it to our officiant to sign off legally.

how did you guys edit your video?
We had our wedding recorded in a few different places. We downloaded the zoom recording, had our Canon recording on a tripod, and had an iphone recording on a tripod. We also took some video shots using the tripod while we got ready. I pulled all the videos together in imovie! Just clipped the shots that we wanted and added in music!
