You aren’t just helping people with their art careers, you are helping them maintain their mental health. Thank you for your contribution to the world ❤ and your drawings aren’t bad 😂
You know what, I’m 42 and always been an artist but never took it seriously. I got stuck in analysis paralysis trying to figure out if it was even worth taking seriously. And also listening to adults tell me it wasn’t a logical choice. The fact I sold myself short and never tried is one of the most depressing things in my life. If I can give anyone a suggestion…just go for it and start small if you’re unsure how it’ll go. Take a chance on yourself, you never know where it’ll lead. Funny enough I always wanted to paint, but instead became a house painter and imagine my shock when I was painting homes for full time artists. Your hobby/life passion can be more if you believe in yourself. ❤
Just within the first 4 minutes if listening, I’m grateful at this point that I’m at this stage of painting where that’s all I need to do..and experiment. That said, when someone happens by my work, it often sells, but I’m not “out there” marketing myself; that’s daunting and I’m just happy painting now and learning from people like you. :) I’m grateful to paint and discover, even though I know I need to sell more.
I had to make comment on this video. I am just struggling with lot of mental issue in my job. By very nature, I like to expeiment things and want to work as a creative artists. But due to my financial condition, I have to work on a job. Where my boss scolds me, and from past few months I am feeling extremely demotivated. I was alwasy somebody who was excited to learn, create and listen to other artists. But now I feel I am not worth it. This video really helped me a lot to face the harsh reality of life. I would want to tell you that you are doing a great JOB. We really connect with what you tell. KEEP DOING THIS
WOW! I have been procrastinating for two years since I quit my 15yr. hospital job to pursue a creative career to only realize that I know shit about the business side and spending less and less time on actually experimenting and creating. I have been stuck and fearing to create because I have been worried about what will make money! I’m depressed and my relationship with family has gone out the window. This has been a very lonely and frustrating journey where it was supposed to be fun and exciting. I thank you for posting this for helping me better understand what I’m going through and that it’s not just me and this is a common thing that most artists struggle through but don’t share on social media. I wish I had you as a personal business art trainer! I appreciate you and thank you for making this video!
$100,000? per year? man, some of us have way different goals. making 1/8 that would be good for me. heck 1/16 of that would help a lot to stabalise my life greatly. keep in mind some of us have disabilities and are trapped in part time minimum wage jobs to scrape together not quite enough to afford rent and food costs, in areas where there is no public transportation or health care suupport.
It may sound weird, but making your disability into part of your art struggle story can help put a unique selling point on your art. my art isn’t bad but it’s not the best either, although it takes on a whole different meaning when people notice that I walk with a white cane because I’m visually impaired. Just saying :-)
But no joke, my brother-in-law was an amazing artist till he tried to make it a profession. Then he was cranking out 30 min projects and selling them for 100 euro each on e-bay. That's why I chose physiotherapie for a job, and keep my art for my free time.
@wizzlehoart how is it going now? I am currently going to school for kinesiology to become a health coach. But I am an artist at heart. Do you have enough time and energy and work to create art and feel fulfilled?
@El-Camino-de-Matteo Honestly, I tried to keep up with finishing 1 painting a month, but the quality suffered. These days I take a long Saturday night and work on one project at a time till I'm satisfied with it. Not the best strategy for keeping up a business, but much more satisfying in the way of the quality work I want to produce. It really hit me after a recent Gallery rejected my work for display. So for now it's my weekend enjoyment. Maybe by the time I retire I will have good quality AND speed and maybe I can get some side money for my retirement
I always enjoy your videos full of explosive ideas and your explosive, gorgeous, atomic bomb hair. There is an expression that I love. Do what you have to so you can do what you want to. I was an illustrator in Manhattan for many years and while I was not in love with the field, being an editorial artist helped me to become much more creative as a fine artist, which is what I do, now. Even though I'm an old hand at this stage in the game, I am still learning and share your videos. Thank you, Dries!
I have been wondering, will you get taxed on your inventory if you list your art and prices online? Say if you price your art at $5000 and you have 5 pieces, will you be taxed for $25,000 of inventory even if you have not sold any yet or maybe you have sold one or two pieces before at this price?
Thank you so much 💜Love your info ….Awesome I’m about to turn 60 😉I’m I Luv this whole journey taking time to smell the roses and generate a couple of income streams with my artwork 😊😍
I'm home, injured, and I have time to make art. I run into this self doubt about what to do with it though, what I think about my work, being worried about people seeing it. One day I feel purpose driven and amazing. The next day I can't see the potential and feel directionless. Mentally its exhausting. My health insurance runs out in June because I am not going abck to my current job (I am a teacher). I would like to teach art classes outside of school while I vontinue crewting my own art. I am not sure how to get that going though...
Thanks Marius, that's very nice to hear. Would be honored if you would take a minute to tell me what you specifically liked about this one? A specific tip, a story, the topic,...
hahaha, probably just a tech mistake of some sort. Perhaps it's in your spam filter or something else. Send me a mail with the one that you wanted to get and I'll send it manually to you.
Zig zigglar not a good source for learning how to sell, in 2 sentanses i can give better advice than all hi books put together. 1) it's a numbers game your gonna make no matter what anybody tells you 2) your looks and personality make the sale so always remember to have a natural smile on your face. Don't let anything anyone tells you sink in, you're gonna make it in sales, i did. If i can do it, you can too. Better than art is setting up a store in the right location, buy wholesale and sell at retail and make money all the time. That's what it's all about, you can always do art in your spare time.
Or maybe it's better if art is your hobby, not career. This way you can avoid all of the crap associated with a career and just keep the art part. Keep it unsullied by the rot that is the need to make money.
“You will never know how to start an art business before you start…” man I felt that. 😅
It's so nice to see someone bringing this to light! Thanks!! 😀
Any time! Glad you enjoyed it Susan!

The only people making money from art are vloggers , art teachers, art supply shops , paint / canvas / brush manufacturers and art book publishers .

Well this just summed up more about me than I had realised! Thanks Dries!
Very inciteful and inspired. You really need to get this message in front of more artists. One of your beterl ones, Dries, this is helping people.

Mental time and feeling have NO time. It depends on the mood at that moment which will change. Good and bad days.
Hey man where is the artist readiness checklist ?
Art the end of the video on the screen, just screenshot it, series of questions with result guidance
