What I Love and Hate about my College | Point Loma Nazarene University

  • This is part two of me talking about my college experience. I only have one more semester so I wanted to take some time to reflect on my experience. There are some pretty big things that have made me question whether attending Point Loma Nazarene University was a good choice. Overall, I am happy with my decision to attend PLNU because the good experiences outweigh the bad.

    Seems like only the very small Christian universities stick to their faith. There's a college like that where I'm from in Northern California (about 1,000 students) and a lot of the students marry by the time they graduate😅 but they seem happy. I just got into University of San Diego and even though it's slightly more conservative which I appreciate, theology is not central anymore. I'm not white but I really dislike the toxic activism you see at many schools which is why I chose them over bay area or LA schools. Cheers on your graduation

      Hey Xavier, thank you for your comment! Point Loma has about 3,000 students which is very small compared to the other universities in the area! Since graduating I see Instagram posts about my classmates getting engaged/married on a weekly basis lol. ring by spring was very much an accurate description of senior year at Loma. Toxic activism was HEAVILY present at plnu. I totally feel you there. congrats on getting into USD!

    If you weren’t graduating already, I would say transfer to Biola. It’s a solid Christian university. You would see a significant difference. I went there and I recommend it to anyone wanting a Christian university. Perhaps you can do a graduate degree there in the future or your younger sibling who you mentioned might want to apply. They have an outstanding film school.

      Thanks you! I graduated from PLNU last December. Back in high school when I was applying for colleges Biola was actually my #2 choice. I even got into the Torrey Honors Institute! I definitely wish I would have chosen Biola over PLNU.

    How would you describe the political atmosphere of the college? I know that San Diego is a primarily left leaning area, but what are the political views of the majority of plnu students?

    • @coriannevlogs8231
      @coriannevlogs8231  3 роки тому +6

      definitely left wing. I was actually president of one of our Republican clubs and it was ROUGH. I was harassed pretty frequently. Last year my friend tried to start a Turning Point chapter on campus and the school denied the club. They still meet via zoom each week but they aren’t allowed to advertise and hold official PLNU affiliated meetings. If you search hard enough you can find conservatives, but they are silenced by both the school and the student body. I only had 2 professors during my entire time at Loma that were conservative. Not sure if that is good to bad news for you. If you’re left leaning, you will feel right at home.

      @@coriannevlogs8231 That’s weird because as Christians you would expect the Republican Party as the choice of party. Obviously they were not Christian.

    My relative goes has been going there and I asked if the school taught them the gospel and the answer was no. So I had to teach them the gospel that this supposed Christian university hasn’t taught them. Crazy that someone wouldn’t know the gospel after even one day in school there .

    • @coriannevlogs8231
      @coriannevlogs8231  4 роки тому +2

      It is really sad. I’d say 1/3 of the student body wouldn’t even identify as Christian. The professors are required to be Christians to teach there but I have so serious doubts about a few of them. One of my professors used to be a student at Point Loma and he said he is sure within the next 5-10 years Point Loma will no longer be a “Christian university”

    As a freshman, can you pick what dorm building you want to be in?

    • @coriannevlogs8231
      @coriannevlogs8231  3 роки тому +3

      You get to rank your dorm preferences, but there is no guarantee you will get put in the dorm you rank as #1. Honestly, the three freshman dorms all have their pros in cons. Some people like Nease because it is the newest dorm so I guess its considered the most modern and updated (Although Klassen and Hendricks recently got a makeover). Nease is also A LOT closer to things like the caf and the library. But personally, I lived in Klassen freshman year (which was my first choice!) and I prefer it because the rooms are bigger and have way more storage than the ones in Nease. It's a rough walk up a pretty steep hill to get to the main part of campus from Klassen and Hendricks, but I think it's worth it. I have friends who totally prefered Nease tho!

      You can have guests sleep over only if they are of the same gender.

      @coriannevlogs8231  3 роки тому

      There are open hours each day which are times when you can have the opposite gender into your room. for freshmen, its like 3pm - 9pm, and then the time gradually increases until you are senior and then its like 12pm - 12am I think. But people sneak guys into their room all the time and get away with it.

    • @coriannevlogs8231
      @coriannevlogs8231  7 місяців тому

      I had a friend go through the nutrition program and it was good for her - but the science classes were extremely difficult for her. She was constantly studying. She ended up not being able to find a job in the field after college however and now she is in nursing school. If you have a passion for science and dedication to nutrition/all the work that comes after to get a job (internship etc) it would be worth it tho!
