  • The Karakoram mountain range in the Himalayas is as giant as it is wild and on the right day there is no place on earth better for adventurous paragliding.
The late John Silvester first made this bold and pioneering flight calling it the 'Magic Line' which has since been repeated by less than a handful of other pilots.
The line is bold and improbable as you need to cross over Spantik's (7027m) North shoulder (Flying alongside the spectacular granite route climbed by Fowler and Saunders in 1987 - The Golden Pillar) and then drop into the amazingly out there valley beyond, where you are left to scratch your way back out of.
Although this was by no means the longest flight of my life, it was for sure one of the most aesthetic and beautiful lines that is made it all the more engaging by its levels of commitment. If you were to not to find thermals after Spantik you could be in for a 4 day walk out over the glacier, provided you landed uninjured.
Taking pictures of this terrain from my paraglider is an extra bonus for me and something I love to do. The video is interspersed with some of my favourites of Veso Ovcharov who I flew this beautiful flight with.
