IELTS is not necessary for a Nigerian applying for a Masters degree so far you have your WAEC certificate and passed English language

That is not true, the proof to a marriage is not in surname but in the Civil wedding Certificate. However bearing same Surname can make it more easier to see your application as a family application(genuine marriage). Changing your name is not neccesary.
