I have been following UCLA athletics since 1966. I have NEVER seen anything as touching, as moving as this video of what the amazing Women's Gymnastic team did to win the National Championship. It brought tears to my eyes Kudos to all: the coaches (Coach Kondos Field - you will be my inspiration for the rest of my life), the supporters, the Athletic Department and, of course, the gymnasts, who I now believe are the best athletes in the world! You are all so wonderful and so great and so competitive. You have made me a gymnastics fan for life!
How could one not LOVE this UCLA team; that would be harder than scoring all 10s. Their support of each other and fun positive loving comradery mixed with a fearless competitive drive for excellence result in a team like no other. What other team has so much fun goofing around while being ice cold assassins under immense pressure. They defy conventions, proving it is possible to be the very best and still have a blast lifting up those around them. Truly, an inspirational group of ladies. Props to the Bruins and the many people that helped create this supportive environment where they could thrive and have fun doing it!
Ahhh. my eyes watered through this whole thing , watching these awesome girls.....wow! Good for you all! Awesome young woman ! Gives me comfort to see how strong they are and how one day they will be running a big part of this world!
I just still can’t get over it. Was screaming and crying and living all the emotions with them when it was live. Emotional and crying again when I rewatched everything on UA-cam. And now AGAIN crying. SO so proud of these girls and am really excited for them! They did such a great job this season, I have no words. Also still cant believe that Peng is ACTUALLY leaving now 😭😭 pls stay! I’m sure the UCLA Bruins have more to show us next season, can’t wait. 🐻💙💛
I think Kyla and Madison cried more here than receiving their gold metals at the olympics. That’s how powerful their bond is for each other and how much they want to win for one another. I love this 🥰
I saw the championship on tv and was like I’m living this is St Louis with them. I can repeat the moment when they saw the score and know that they win AGAIN AND AGAIN!!! and living the same emotion, and with this video is the same! Deanna this video is awesome 😭😭💙 As a fan, that was one of the greatest moments I seen in gymnastics: best meet ever! Best super six ever! Congrats for all the teams and of course (an again) CONGRATS UCLAGymnastics, you deserved this so much, you fought for this and you prepared for this. 💙💛 can’t wait for the 2019 season 💁🏻♀️💛💙
I can't even express how much I agree with this comment. You put all of my experience into words. So glad I was able to watch it all live from the Netherlands (it was 01am-04am here). That beam routine and everything that came after it was literally the best moment ever! I was crying of happiness and pride just as they were. I was feeling all of it
Yeah my heart was pounding and I was so nervous to see Peng's score. Then I saw the 10 and my jaw dropped ! It was an unforgettable sporting moment. It is definitely in my list of top sporting moments !
Yes, it was truly amazing! My heart was beating very fast when they were waiting for the score and when I saw that they got excited I knew that they won and my tears started to come out. I don’t now how to describe it, it was really awesome. 💛💙
Oh, Miss Val. You so silly. Thankfully, they no longer have to rely on possible human mathematical errors with the introduction of computers, LOL. In all seriousness, you are the epitome of what a coach should be: motivating, inspiring, instilling discipline and resilience, all while teaching your athletes life lessons through sport from a place of genuine love and care for their overall well-being as people before all else. I am so happy that you are still coaching during this monumental championship year. This group of young ladies had a special quality that I honestly had not seen since the team that won inside Pauley Pavilion in 2004. The camaraderie and the love that this team has for each other is heartwarming and you cannot want anything else for them except to win. Additionally, I want to send a shout out to the assistant and volunteer coaches: Hallie Mossett, you are an integral part of this team and I thank you for sticking around; Jordyn Wieber, your dedication to this team, first as team manager, now as the Floor Exercise coach, is commendable and the improvements over last year's floor lineup is wonderful. You're on your way, girl! Coach Randy Lane, I know that you like to keep things light hearted so that the athletes stay loose as well, but I also know that you don't let them slack in the gym when it comes down to focusing on conditioning, repetitions, and technique. Please, don't ever leave us again. My dude, M. Chris Waller, you were one of my idols growing up when I did gymnastics during the early 1990s and you have gone on to become an awesome human being, family man and coach that knows how to bring out the best in these gymnasts. I would have KILLED to be a fly on the wall in the locker room during that speech. I know that Deanna couldn't include any of that footage due to all the profanities, but if that's what it took to ignite the fireworks, I say keep that speech tucked in your back pocket for every NCAA championship. Anyone I've forgotten, my apologies. I know there's a team of trainers, administrators, nutritionists, and others that have contributed to making all of this happen. I am so proud to be a Bruin and having this championship play out the way that it did makes the victory all the more delightful. Congratulations Bruins, 2018 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Champions! ✨🐻🏆🎖✨🇺🇸🇭🇲🇨🇦🇵🇭🇩🇪 I think I got all the flags there: USA, Australia(Stella), Canada(Peng-Peng), Philippines(Sofia Gonzalez), and Germany(Pulla). If I forgot anybody, again, I'm sorry, 😅
Had a bare understanding of the sport but one of your biggest fan Bruins! Congratulations from the Philippines. Saw the whole season and I know you're so in it to win it! Well deserved.
just when I thought I didn't have any more tears left to cry.. thank you for the always amazing videos, Deanna. a huge congrats again to these girls and to the coaches for their hard work and dedication to this beautiful sport we call gymnastics 💙💛
That last few seconds of Pua are gold! :D GIRLS, YOU DESERVE ALL OF THIS! So proud of you all, what a perfect finish to an incredible season, thank you all so much
I cried tonight after hearing the news that the campus will be on locked down for precaution of the coronavirius. These ladies were amazing in there former performance. When I saw Peng Peng do her performance which was flawless and it was as if she twirled on a cloud, steadfast and determined to finish with pure joy. She clearly knew her performance even overwhelmed herself by the way she placed her hand over her heart and blew a kiss to the audience. What joy!
And THAT folks is how you sell a program!! Great editing and presentation of what was an AMAZING accomplishment for the Lady Bruins gymnastic team. NCAA Championship #115 and counting!! Congratulations.
So much love for this team. Got to see y’all twice this season and you are all so amazing!!! I still don’t have a voice from screaming so much but that’s okay with me!
Competitive greatness....JW's mantra and this team was the point of light for that pyramid. I loved following the team this year and I said many times a 198 + was going to win them a title.
Fourth time watching the video, and fourth time the CHILLS came over all four limbs! I hope y'all had a big fun partaaayyy after all that. 😄 I think Deanna needs to win an OSCAR for this production too! I love my Bruin gymnasts and coaches and I cannot WAIT for next season! And seniors, there are no words! 😭😭😭 You have all left a legacy thst will remain forever! ☝️☝️☝️☝️💙💛💙💛💙💛💙💛💙❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m a relatively new but enthusiastic gymnastics fan. I’m mystified why the tickets are so cheap. Especially after going to this thing in St. Louis. Best sporting event ever. And this video has kept the high going for a week. I don’t expect lightning like that to strike again. But we plan to keep going to watch gymnastics. We saw the Bruins at the Metroplex Challenge this year too. Plan to see you in Oklahoma next year, and presumably in the finals in Fort Worth.
I just want to say that this team inspired me to become a coach. This team and miss Val gave me so much inspiration in the past few years and I realized that i want to build a team just like that in my sport and that i want a group of kids that i can bring up into an amazing team that will have each others back always and forever, I want to build a team that will hype each other up and go through everything together. I'm 16 and this year is probably gonna be my last year competing as an athlete and after that i plan on starting to learn how to be a coach in my sport and after im 18 i want to officially become a coach and take one of my first group of kids and i hope i can mold them into a team that looks like the bruins.
My dreams of being a UCLA gymnast were bashed by a tragic car accident when I was 16 years old. My high school boyfriend could not handle a break up and asked me to go for a ride with him just "to talk". I felt sorry for him and went. He ended up driving that car over a cliff, down 180 feet at 80 MPH. I almost died as 3 times that night my heart stopped. I broke my back in 4 places causing me to be paralyzed on my left side for 2 years, had internal bleeding from a severed liver & spleen, among many other injuries. I did not go back to school that year; he was back in school 3 days later..... My dreams ruined by one bad decision even though I cannot control others actions. I was forced to find something else to define me. UCLA was my dream since I was 10 years old and with my 4.2GPA that I worked so hard to maintain in the hopes of being a scholarship kid, I KNEW I'd be on that team!!! To be 10 years old and be able to think ahead about my future is an incredible strength within itself. HOWEVER, One single moment, a life forever changed.....
I wish there was a World Collegiate Championship. There's so much talent and so few spots/chances to become an Olympian. But these athletes are amazing. I wish there was a HUGE World competition for them to really show off their skill.
One of the greatest moments in sports history. I already miss the era of Coach Val, Peng, Kyla & Katelyn. Hopefully the legacy will continue!

Love this team! So sad to see all the seniors go😢
IM CRYING ALL OVER AGAIN
ugh, SO much love for Mrs. Val, this team and for Deanna 💙
Quick! Offer Peng a full-time coaching position! It's not the same without her!
Yes please!!!
Peng as the UCLA team sociologist for the benefit of the group process
Jade Eliot she should be beam or bars coach or an assistant coach

Thank you UCLA, thank you Deanna, thank you to the culture and philosophy that you've all built and shared with us.
Almost 3 years later, still makes me cry. So proud of all these people

Great summation. It was just a beautiful season.

Still watch this almost 4 years later, and still cry
This video is giving me all the chills.
✨✨✨Legends✨✨✨
So heartwarming.
UCLA you did *THAT* 💙💛💙💛💙💛
I don't know if it's too late to request a Bruin Banter episode with Miss. Val? She's just so iconic.
And as a final goodbye to Peng & Janay (and the rest of the seniors should be in it too)
from our differences comes our greatness...
