Choosing The BEST QUALITY Mayonnaise At The Grocery Store

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 28 січ 2020
  • There are lots of options for mayonnaise at the grocery store, but if you look at the ingredients, many of them are to be avoided. First off, look what type of oil they use to make the mayonnaise, avocado oil is by far the best, but many brands cheap and highly processed oils. Next look for preservatives and added sugar, mayonnaise should just be a few ingredients! Mad love..Bobby, Dessi, Rose, and Art! XOXO

    I make my own at home. 1 cup Avocado oil, 1 egg, 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar with the mother, 1 Tbsp ground mustard 1 tsp tumeric. Put all except oil in a large glass, mix with emersion blender. Slowly add avocado oil while constantly blend. When you're done adding the oil you have a nice, thick, tasty mayonnaise. Good for 5 days in the fridge.

    Put all in a small measuring cup and blend with an immersion blender. It costs about $3 for about 1 1/2 cups, and literally takes me about 20 seconds to make.

    How does it taste. I bought the avocado mayo you recommended at Costco and it didn’t taste good - had a metallic taste. Edit: I see that the first two reviews of a Primal Kitchen mayo on Target’s website (which are not a part of a promo) say that this mayo tastes bad - one review said it tastes like gasoline and the other said it tasted terrible and it went in the garbage. I don’t get how something all “natural” can have such an unnatural taste. I agree this tastes terrible and would it ruin other flavors that you put this product on. My recommendation - make your own avocado mayo, pass on the mayo or go with a less healthy better tasting mayo.

      Honestly, if you want avocado oil mayo it might be better to make it yourself because it will be WAY cheaper and you can control the taste. I usually don't go through the trouble to make my own condiments because it's just too much but with mayo it's super, super easy especially if you have a stand mixer taking less than 5 minutes.

      @@nubbyrose87 the price will depend on the type of eggs you use and quality of oil but I get my avocado oil from Costco and even if you use a pasture raised egg the per oz cost would roughly $0.25 an oz. At my local grocery store in Virginia the Primal Kitchen is $9 and the Sir Kensingtons is $10 for 16 oz which is a little under $1 an oz.

    • @kenyattaclay7666

      @@asadb1990 That's just it, I don't eat a lot of mayo and when you make it yourself you are only making a very small amount so you don't have to worry about it going bad. I have actually wasted more money buying jars of mayo because I will only use it a few times a year and I wind up having to throw out a half full jar because it's months past its expiration date. When you make it yourself you're making about a quarter as much so it doesn't go to waste. Now if you're someone who eats a lot of mayo and goes through jars every few weeks then yes it's worth it to buy from the store.

    Good grief! Make your own mayo. Recipe: put one pasture-raised egg yolk in the bottom of a 16-ounce wide-mouth canning jar. Add the juice of one lemon, 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard, 1-2 teaspoons of good Himalayan or Celtic salt. Fill the jar 3/4 full with avocado oil (don't make the mistake of filling it all the way - it fluffs up and ends up on every wall in the kitchen!). Insert a plunge blender. Turn on the blender. In less than 10 seconds, a perfectly emulsified delicious mayonnaise emerges. Even with getting everything out and clean-up, it's less than 5 minutes. It will stay fresh in the fridge for 3 weeks (but it never lasts that long in my household) and you can always triple the recipe and use a larger jar if you need large quantities for recipes or a larger family. It's also about 22 cents per ounce, as opposed to Primal Mayo at Thrive market for 63 cents per ounce.

      Where did you hear that it lasts 3 weeks? I've heard it only lasts 1.
      😒

    • @lindacgrace2973
      @lindacgrace2973 4 роки тому

      @@DarkMoonDroid Well, that's about how long commercial mayo lasts, and at about 3 weeks, it starts to separate; so, by simple experimentation, I figured 3 weeks or so. I wonder if contaminated jar/mixing gear/ variable fridge temps would affect this? At any rate, I toss it and start over with a freshly boiled canning jar when it separates and I haven't gotten anyone sick so far ;-)

    If you're like me and don't eat a lot of mayo and what ever mayo you buy at the store will sit in your fridge for a year, use Bobby's avocado oil mayo recipe. It cost a LOT less and it was super easy to make, especially if you have a stand mixer and use the whisk attachment. The other benefit is you can play around with the recipe and add or take out what you want.

And I love avocados and I love all the other primal kitchen sauces I’ve tried. I don’t know why it taste so bad? Lol Any other Mayo suggestions that’s not avocado oil? I always liked dukes or Hellman’s lol I’ve been just not using Mayo. I love the primal kitchen ketchup can’t taste the difference.
