I was a pyrotec for many years, shot many shows and i can tell you, it takes a lot of sweat and muscle to pull these off. Aside of what little money we got for shooting a show, where the money was at that time was running the business of selling. What our crew got the most pleasure from was the crowds cheering after, so always raise the noise for lengthy amount of time. From a retired pyrotechnics person.

@@drivevibes6996 there are businesses that train and certifies you to work for them you have to be investigated by 3 diff companies, atf, state, and state fire marshals. Hours of classes to become one and on job training. It's cool for a younger man. We had our own trailer with mortars and equipment to set a show. Takes on average 12 hours to do show, maybe longer depending on town let you shoot at dusk.

Yeah right, gandalf hardly even used magic in those films, he spent most of his time in boring melee combat! He's such a weak mage I bet the best fireworks he could do is snakes and sparklers. He can make the sky get a little brighter though, but meh.

For the assorted people who have wondered about the cost: This is the Katakai-Matsuri firework festival (2014). The single finale shell (48") was estimated to cost approximately $1500.00 USD (about $154,000.00 Yen in 2014). Between the other fireworks (mostly created right there in Katakai), transportation, setup, etc., and bearing in mind that this is only the last ~4mins of the show... this was probably around a $100K show (USD, so again, 2014 Yen: approx $10,247,000.00).
And just fyi: not as random an estimate as you might think. I'm a professional pyrotechnician. I work smaller shows than this one but I know what goes into them and what they cost. Scaling up is approximated, of course, but I'd be surprised if I were off by very much.
