Zechariah 12 is the main scripture that gave me pause as I was preparing to leave the Church. However, I knew the timeline was wrong due to the fact Jerusalem didn't conquer all the nations that came against her. I hadn't noticed the pronoun change in John. Clever! God Bless!

The original pronunciation is questionable due to the nature of Semitic languages. The letters of the holy name may represent consonant or vowel sounds. Please be sure and look into things before criticizing. If You were born Jewish, You should know this.
My KJV growing up had a concordance listing all these "prophecies" and it was a matter of awe and faith for us, we were brainwashed about how wonderful it all was. And if you presume to look at context and the real meaning, well, "this is a type, this is a secondary fulfillment". You can't refute these things because it is a matter of faith. It is really difficult when you realize the contradictions are real and you have based your heart on something that just can't make sense. But you can't talk to people about it without hurting them as well.
I was born a Jew but spent many years in the Catholic Church from Long Island in St. Josephs’s RC Church during the 1980’s but we left New York in 1999 and relocated to Florida and both my father and I were Catholic for a while because of the financial help my father and myself received before he died. In every country there are good people and bad as well. In those days ( 4 th century ) there were Jews you who wanted to kill Jesus many many times because of his popularity among Jews and majority of the Jewish crowd were believing in HIM as their saviour because of the marvellous miracles he did and amazing ways he taught them. Zechariah 12:10 is the prophecy that clearly talks about someone else and NOT about Israel but the whole chapter is about how God will make Israel strong and give HIS spirit and grace that they will realise that whom HE sent as his only SON to save them NOT just from enemies BUT from SIN, they have pierced him and crucified him . Ha- Shem ( GOD) spirit and grace will help the Israelites to realise what a big mistake they had done in crucifying JESUS and with repentance they will mourn as they have lost their only begotten son. Nothing is picked from Old Testament and made a story out of it, New Testament is also written by Jews only NOT Chinese . Zechariah says "they will look at Me whom they pierced" while John says "they will look at Him whom they have pierced." How about considering that from John's perspective the "Him" is referring to the "Me" in Zechariah. In other words John is not referring to himself and therefore does not say "Me." Instead, he refers to "Him". It is simply a matter of perspective.

we all know that when we repent. We are to repent to Ha-Shem. The question is this? Is Jesus/yeshua Ha-Shem? G-d is not human nor a man that lies. G-d revealed himself at Mt Sinai and He said that there was no one before him nor after him. He is alone. Only ONE. That's about 1700-2000 years before xtianity showed up. Worshiping a man is idolatry which has no share in the next life.

@@tenaktalk Foreshadowings of Christ in the Tanakh, deals with foreshadowings of the Messiah as well as appearances and prophecies. Every animal sacrifice in the Tanakh pointed ahead to (was prophetic of) the coming Messiah. Even in Is 53, the Lamb is humanized. See also Ps 22, etc. Recall that every lamb had to be without blemish. No mere man is without blemish, but the Messiah, God’s Lamb, the one Abraham spoke of when he said the Lord would provided, had no sin-He was and is pure. The ram in the thicket was yet another type of the One who would be sacrificed in the believer’s place. Simon carried the cross part of the way, but Jesus also carried it, as John 19:17 confirms. Returning to Gen 22, this does indeed speak of refer to the Coming One. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies.” This “mountain of the LORD” is actually Calvary! In other words, God was so intent on helping us to see the significance of this passage that He had Abraham offer his son on the very earthly location where God the Father would sacrifice His Son. Notice also the great praise the Lord gave to Abraham. For Abraham to be willing to sacrifice his precious son, the very thing God the Father would do in relation to His Son, brought forth extreme praise (“I swear by Myself”) from the Lord Jesus toward Abraham prior to His, Jesus,’, eventual incarnation. Notice again the reiteration of God’s promise concerning Abraham’s descendants in the last part. The New Testament picks up right there in Matthew 1:1, where Jesus is mentioned as descended from Abraham. Jesus is the fulfillment of this and every promise of old. Verse 18 says, “…and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed Me.” The “offspring” par excellence, in this promise, is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, God in human flesh. Already most, if not “all nations on earth,” have been blessed in Jesus.

Zechariah 9:11, “…because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.” See also Luke 22:21 and Hebrews 13:20 Long Thoughts: I was reading in Zechariah 9 this morning and noticed again the similarity between verse 11 and Hebrews 13:20, “…the God of peace…brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant…” In both verses we get this idea of God raising someone from the dead (the “waterless pit” represents exile in Zechariah 9, but the exile itself-as well as “pit” imagery-was envisioned as sort of death), of God raising someone from the dead because of or by the blood of a covenant. What does that mean?
Well, the “blood of the covenant” as seen in Exodus 24:8 was the sacrificial blood spilled to seal God’s covenant with His people in the wilderness. Much could be said about what precisely that covenant entailed, but sufficient to say, it was YHWH’s promise to be their faithful God and the people’s promise to be His obedient people. When Zechariah echoes this covenant-sealing ceremony in verse 11, he seems to be saying that it will be on the basis of that blood-sealed promise that YHWH will be faithful to His people and raise them up out of the pit of death that was their exile, bringing them back into the life of fellowship with Him.
However, we can-and this is the point of today’s picture-say more than this. Because we know that-in His faithfulness-YHWH would ultimately make a New Covenant, one that would sovereignly secure the faithfulness of every member (Jer.31:31-34, etc.). It would be through this New Covenant that He would show Himself to be both Just and the one who justifies the wayward; faithful to pour out both covenant curses and covenant blessings; and-ultimately-the one who overcomes every opposition within and without and brings His people to Himself for their lasting gladness and His lasting renown. And this New Covenant would not be sealed with the blood of sacrificial animals, but with blood of the Beloved Son, of God Himself……a thought we’d never even dare to think unless the Lord taught us to do so in His word.
Entailed in this New Covenant is the promise of the true return from exile, the true freedom for prisoners, namely-resurrection from the dead. And Hebrews 13:20 tells us that the first covenant member to receive the benefit of this blood-bought resurrection promise is the Covenant Lord Himself, Jesus Christ. He is raised from the dead (thus vindicating the work of His cross) on the basis of the covenant sealed with His own shed blood. And by His resurrection, by His return from the exile of covenant curse, by His freedom from the waterless pit, WE TOO are assured the same thing. The “waterless pit” of sin, suffering, sorrow, and death will not be the end for those who hope in the crucified and risen Shepherd….and we know this with perfect assurance because it is a promise sealed with God’s own blood.

Tovia Singer has made the point that the Roman's did in fact repent for killing Jesus, just as John said. It also shows that God was in Jesus reconciling the world to himself. Therefore, God could both say through Zachariah that the Roman people had pierced him and John could say that the Romans had pierced him, meaning both Jesus and God, who are one. I am not trying to make a Trinity argument, which is a post biblical argument, but I will make an argument that the Father and Son are one, for that is biblical.

God has not finished with Israel, despite false teachings stating that she has been replaced by the Church. While many hold to this type of 'replacement theology' or proclaim the 'kingdom now' teaching, both are unbiblical and demonstrate a lack of understanding of the covenant God made with Israel and the mission He gave to the Church. God's promises to Israel are equally as unbreakable as the promises He made to the Church, which are all "Yes" and "Amen" in Christ Jesus our Lord. Speaking of God's never-failing faithfulness to His people, Israel, the Psalmist wrote, "God is our refuge and strength - a very present help in times of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth should change, and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our stronghold." Because they crucified their Messiah, Israel was set aside for a season and during this Church dispensation has become partially blind. However, their spiritual renewal and national repentance at the end of the 7-year tribulation period, is the time Zechariah is describing, when God, "will pour over the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication," as further expanded in Joel, chapter 2. It is at that time, the nation of Israel will be finally and fully regathered from the four corners of the earth. The kingdoms of Israel and Judah will be reunited into one, glorious kingdom under God's appointed King - the Lord Jesus, and Israel's spiritual deliverance will be accomplished, when they cry out for salvation (HOSANNA- SAVE US) and Christ returns as King of kings and Lord of lords. The outpouring of God's Holy Spirit will be over the whole nation, both leaders and people alike. They will all cry out with one voice, in faith, "blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord," as foretold by the prophets. The Spirit of God will minister to their repentant hearts, cover them with His saving grace, and lead the entire nation to make earnest supplication to the Father - as they acknowledge their sins and proclaim Jesus as Lord. No wonder Zechariah foretells that in that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem. The land will mourn, and every family will weep, when they suddenly realise that they crucified their promised Messiah and anointed King. Zechariah tells us, "for in that day they will look on Me Whom they have pierced." They will see Jesus coming in the clouds of glory and they will see the nail prints in His hands and feet. "They will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping, over a firstborn." At Christ's first coming the nation was called to, "repent, for the kingdom of God was at hand." Their King was in their midst and He was ready to save His people from their sin. The hope of the nations had come to tabernacle with His people. The incarnate Son came to visit and redeem His people. The Dayspring from on high - Israel's kinsman-Redeemer, had come to earth to bring His people a knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins. But they refused to repent and would not recognise Him as the only begotten Son of God, Who takes away the sin of the world. Had Israel as a nation turned to Christ for salvation on that first day of Pentecost.. the prophecy of Joel would have been completely fulfilled. However, the continued unbelief of the nation of Israel dictated that the nation was set aside for a season and Joel's end-times prophecy has yet to be fully and finally fulfilled. OH! individual Jews were saved but Israel as a nation needed to repent collectively for their sin. For 2000 years, Israel has been set-aside, while God continues to carry out His redemptive plans and purposed through the body of Christ, which is the Church. The Church of Christ was not God's after-thought when Israel rejected their Messiah. The Church was not a 'quick-fix' by God when Israel refused to trust in His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection. God had purposed, from the foundation of the world to carry out His plans and purposes through the Church - until the times of the Gentiles is fulfilled. God knew that rebellious Israel would reject the Messiah - but God in His grace has never rejected His people - nor will he ever reject you and me - for God's Word is to be trusted. But following the Rapture, when all Christians will be taken to be with the Lord, it will be through the nation of Israel that the Lord will once again continue His redemptive plans and purposes. Finally, "the Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world," as Christ foretold in Matthew 24 - and then the end will come, when God's chosen nation.. both rulers and people, will recognise the truth and cry, "blessed is HE that comes in the name of the Lord." The main purpose of the tribulation is to bring Israel to repentance and return His chosen nation into a right relationship with their covenant-keeping God. Another reason for this 'time of Jacob's Trouble' is to let the Gentile nations know.. that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. God's plan of redemption was determined before the foundations of the world were laid, and so we can state with confidence when the spirit of grace and supplication is poured out upon all people, at the end of the tribulation, then Jesus Christ will rule and reign as King of kings and Lord of lords - forever - as it is written. My Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing grace. Thank You that You did not cut off Your people Israel, and thank You that Your promises are "Yes" and "Amen" in Jesus Christ for all who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You that You are a covenant-keeping God, and I praise You for Your goodness and grace towards the children of men. I pray for the nation of Israel, that many will come to know the Lord Jesus as their God and Messiah, and become part of the one new man in Christ. But I also pray that Your will be done, in the coming time of Jacob's trouble - that glorious day, when Your chosen people will look on the One Whom they pierced with nails and thorns and proclaim Jesus as Lord, and they cry out with one voice, "Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord," in whose name I pray, Amen
If one is really sincerely and read Zacharya 12:10 carefully vs John 10:18. How can they be compared? Zacharya says that they will mourn for a slain son, and John says that this was God's will. It was planned. Jesus gave his own life voluntarily. Why on earth should anyone mourn when God himself wished it. What is the purpose of that mourning? The only thing I see here is contradiction.

My KJV growing up had a concordance listing all these "prophecies" and it was a matter of awe and faith for us, we were brainwashed about how wonderful it all was. And if you presume to look at context and the real meaning, well, "this is a type, this is a secondary fulfillment". You can't refute these things because it is a matter of faith. It is really difficult when you realize the contradictions are real and you have based your heart on something that just can't make sense. But you can't talk to people about it without hurting them as well.

I was born a Jew but spent many years in the Catholic Church from Long Island in St. Josephs’s RC Church during the 1980’s but we left New York in 1999 and relocated to Florida and both my father and I were Catholic for a while because of the financial help my father and myself received before he died.

Wow! My head just exploded right now. Why would the Jews repent if according to Christian believes Jesus came to fulfill the prophesy and he was the lamb that had to be kill. If Jesus was fulling such thing, there is no such thing as repentance from the Jews.

Zechariah 12:10 is the prophecy that clearly talks about someone else and NOT about Israel but the whole chapter is about how God will make Israel strong and give HIS spirit and grace that they will realise that whom HE sent as his only SON to save them NOT just from enemies BUT from SIN, they have pierced him and crucified him . Ha- Shem ( GOD) spirit and grace will help the Israelites to realise what a big mistake they had done in crucifying JESUS and with repentance they will mourn as they have lost their only begotten son. Nothing is picked from Old Testament and made a story out of it, New Testament is also written by Jews only NOT Chinese .
How many prophecies in the Old Testament refer to one person (Jesus), but like I say, when God himself was there with the Israelites, they did not believe in HIM , but whoring after man made God’s.

How about considering that from John's perspective the "Him" is referring to the "Me" in Zechariah. In other words John is not referring to himself and therefore does not say "Me." Instead, he refers to "Him". It is simply a matter of perspective.

In any case, "it" isn't J-dude because he wasn't the messiah/christ.

we all know that when we repent. We are to repent to Ha-Shem. The question is this? Is Jesus/yeshua Ha-Shem? Every animal sacrifice in the Tanakh pointed ahead to (was prophetic of) the coming Messiah. Even in Is 53, the Lamb is humanized. See also Ps 22, etc. Recall that every lamb had to be without blemish. No mere man is without blemish, but the Messiah, God’s Lamb, the one Abraham spoke of when he said the Lord would provided, had no sin-He was and is pure. The ram in the thicket was yet another type of the One who would be sacrificed in the believer’s place. Simon carried the cross part of the way, but Jesus also carried it, as John 19:17 confirms. Returning to Gen 22, this does indeed speak of refer to the Coming One. Continuing with verses 9-12, “When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" // "Here I am," he replied. // "Do not lay a hand on the boy," He said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from Me your son, your only son." The “angel of the LORD”, thus, called to Abraham “from heaven” and said, “You have not withheld from Me your son, your only son.” The phrase “from Me” indicates that this “angel” is divine. Worshipping and sacrificing to a mere angel is wrong (Exodus 20:3 5 and Matthew 4:10). This “angel” is none other than Jehovah Jesus, God the Son. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies.” This “mountain of the LORD” is actually Calvary! In other words, God was so intent on helping us to see the significance of this passage that He had Abraham offer his son on the very earthly location where God the Father would sacrifice His Son. Notice also the great praise the Lord gave to Abraham. For Abraham to be willing to sacrifice his precious son, the very thing God the Father would do in relation to His Son, brought forth extreme praise (“I swear by Myself”) from the Lord Jesus toward Abraham prior to His, Jesus,’, eventual incarnation. Notice again the reiteration of God’s promise concerning Abraham’s descendants in the last part. The New Testament picks up right there in Matthew 1:1, where Jesus is mentioned as descended from Abraham. Jesus is the fulfillment of this and every promise of old. Verse 18 says, “…and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed Me.” The “offspring” par excellence, in this promise, is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, God in human flesh. Already most, if not “all nations on earth,” have been blessed in Jesus.

Long Thoughts: I was reading in Zechariah 9 this morning and noticed again the similarity between verse 11 and Hebrews 13:20, “…the God of peace…brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant…” In both verses we get this idea of God raising someone from the dead (the “waterless pit” represents exile in Zechariah 9, but the exile itself-as well as “pit” imagery-was envisioned as sort of death), of God raising someone from the dead because of or by the blood of a covenant. What does that mean?
Well, the “blood of the covenant” as seen in Exodus 24:8 was the sacrificial blood spilled to seal God’s covenant with His people in the wilderness. Much could be said about what precisely that covenant entailed, but sufficient to say, it was YHWH’s promise to be their faithful God and the people’s promise to be His obedient people. When Zechariah echoes this covenant-sealing ceremony in verse 11, he seems to be saying that it will be on the basis of that blood-sealed promise that YHWH will be faithful to His people and raise them up out of the pit of death that was their exile, bringing them back into the life of fellowship with Him.
However, we can-and this is the point of today’s picture-say more than this. Because we know that-in His faithfulness-YHWH would ultimately make a New Covenant, one that would sovereignly secure the faithfulness of every member (Jer.31:31-34, etc.). It would be through this New Covenant that He would show Himself to be both Just and the one who justifies the wayward; faithful to pour out both covenant curses and covenant blessings; and-ultimately-the one who overcomes every opposition within and without and brings His people to Himself for their lasting gladness and His lasting renown. And this New Covenant would not be sealed with the blood of sacrificial animals, but with blood of the Beloved Son, of God Himself……a thought we’d never even dare to think unless the Lord taught us to do so in His word.
Entailed in this New Covenant is the promise of the true return from exile, the true freedom for prisoners, namely-resurrection from the dead. He is raised from the dead (thus vindicating the work of His cross) on the basis of the covenant sealed with His own shed blood. And by His resurrection, by His return from the exile of covenant curse, by His freedom from the waterless pit, WE TOO are assured the same thing. The “waterless pit” of sin, suffering, sorrow, and death will not be the end for those who hope in the crucified and risen Shepherd….and we know this with perfect assurance because it is a promise sealed with God’s own blood.

Tovia Singer has made the point that the Roman's did in fact repent for killing Jesus, just as John said. It also shows that God was in Jesus reconciling the world to himself. God has not finished with Israel, despite false teachings stating that she has been replaced by the Church. While many hold to this type of 'replacement theology' or proclaim the 'kingdom now' teaching, both are unbiblical and demonstrate a lack of understanding of the covenant God made with Israel and the mission He gave to the Church.
God's promises to Israel are equally as unbreakable as the promises He made to the Church, which are all "Yes" and "Amen" in Christ Jesus our Lord. Speaking of God's never-failing faithfulness to His people, Israel, the Psalmist wrote, "God is our refuge and strength - a very present help in times of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth should change, and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our stronghold."
Because they crucified their Messiah, Israel was set aside for a season and during this Church dispensation has become partially blind. However, their spiritual renewal and national repentance at the end of the 7-year tribulation period, is the time Zechariah is describing, when God, "will pour over the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication," as further expanded in Joel, chapter 2.
It is at that time, the nation of Israel will be finally and fully regathered from the four corners of the earth. The kingdoms of Israel and Judah will be reunited into one, glorious kingdom under God's appointed King - the Lord Jesus, and Israel's spiritual deliverance will be accomplished, when they cry out for salvation (HOSANNA- SAVE US) and Christ returns as King of kings and Lord of lords.
The outpouring of God's Holy Spirit will be over the whole nation, both leaders and people alike. They will all cry out with one voice, in faith, "blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord," as foretold by the prophets. The Spirit of God will minister to their repentant hearts, cover them with His saving grace, and lead the entire nation to make earnest supplication to the Father - as they acknowledge their sins and proclaim Jesus as Lord.
No wonder Zechariah foretells that in that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem. The land will mourn, and every family will weep, when they suddenly realise that they crucified their promised Messiah and anointed King. Zechariah tells us, "for in that day they will look on Me Whom they have pierced." They will see Jesus coming in the clouds of glory and they will see the nail prints in His hands and feet. "They will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping, over a firstborn."
At Christ's first coming the nation was called to, "repent, for the kingdom of God was at hand." Their King was in their midst and He was ready to save His people from their sin. The hope of the nations had come to tabernacle with His people. The incarnate Son came to visit and redeem His people. The Dayspring from on high - Israel's kinsman-Redeemer, had come to earth to bring His people a knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.
But they refused to repent and would not recognise Him as the only begotten Son of God, Who takes away the sin of the world. Had Israel as a nation turned to Christ for salvation on that first day of Pentecost.. the prophecy of Joel would have been completely fulfilled. However, the continued unbelief of the nation of Israel dictated that the nation was set aside for a season and Joel's end-times prophecy has yet to be fully and finally fulfilled. OH! individual Jews were saved but Israel as a nation needed to repent collectively for their sin.
For 2000 years, Israel has been set-aside, while God continues to carry out His redemptive plans and purposed through the body of Christ, which is the Church. The Church of Christ was not God's after-thought when Israel rejected their Messiah. The Church was not a 'quick-fix' by God when Israel refused to trust in His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection. God had purposed, from the foundation of the world to carry out His plans and purposes through the Church - until the times of the Gentiles is fulfilled. God knew that rebellious Israel would reject the Messiah - but God in His grace has never rejected His people - nor will he ever reject you and me - for God's Word is to be trusted.
But following the Rapture, when all Christians will be taken to be with the Lord, it will be through the nation of Israel that the Lord will once again continue His redemptive plans and purposes. Finally, "the Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world," as Christ foretold in Matthew 24 - and then the end will come, when God's chosen nation.. both rulers and people, will recognise the truth and cry, "blessed is HE that comes in the name of the Lord."
The main purpose of the tribulation is to bring Israel to repentance and return His chosen nation into a right relationship with their covenant-keeping God. Another reason for this 'time of Jacob's Trouble' is to let the Gentile nations know.. that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
God's plan of redemption was determined before the foundations of the world were laid, and so we can state with confidence when the spirit of grace and supplication is poured out upon all people, at the end of the tribulation, then Jesus Christ will rule and reign as King of kings and Lord of lords - forever - as it is written.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing grace. Thank You that You did not cut off Your people Israel, and thank You that Your promises are "Yes" and "Amen" in Jesus Christ for all who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You that You are a covenant-keeping God, and I praise You for Your goodness and grace towards the children of men. I pray for the nation of Israel, that many will come to know the Lord Jesus as their God and Messiah, and become part of the one new man in Christ. But I also pray that Your will be done, in the coming time of Jacob's trouble - that glorious day, when Your chosen people will look on the One Whom they pierced with nails and thorns and proclaim Jesus as Lord, and they cry out with one voice, "Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord," in whose name I pray, Amen

If one is really sincerely and read Zacharya 12:10 carefully vs John 10:18.
How can they be compared? Zacharya says that they will mourn for a slain son, and John says that this was God's will. It was planned. Jesus gave his own life voluntarily. My reply; Nazarene apologetics is truth Pauline apologetics, not truth. Because you don't know Nazarene Judaism fully, you can't make a legitimate judgment on it.
