    A shorter video this week, but hopefully a longer one next week for the AM5 mount and Takahashi Clear skies!

    If someday you will have the time, it would be really interesting to see a battle of the cheap telescopes, the 70/700 mm achromat vs this 100 mm newtonian :). I guess that the 70/700 mm should have a better image quality than a 100 mm newtonian :)

    Very nice ! What is the focal length of the telescope in mm ?

    How is this scope in terms of collimation?
    I consider it as replacement for my 60/400 achromat to get better speed in EAA.

      Hi, the primary mirror is factory collimated and fixed in place so it cant be adjusted, but you can make adjustments via the secondary mirror. I've had a few 100p's mini Dobs over the years and the first two arrived perfectly collimated. This one required a slight adjustment.

    I'm able to see the Jupiter cloud band with my 20x80 binocular very clearly. Also the ring of Saturn.

    Still amazing what you can do with that size mirror. Great for starting out on a budget.

    Thats never the 100p in the thumbnail is it?

      Sure is Nick; the latest livery is a steathy black: www.firstlightoptics.com/heritage/skywatcher-heritage-100p-tabletop-dobsonian/ref/astrolavista/ but I kind of liked the original red tube version better.

      @@Astrolavista The hand makes it look a little small.

    I thought about getting a 100p as a bargain alternative to a small ED refractor but I remembered the horrendous build quality of my 114p skyhawk. I suppose if you can put up with the focusser it should be a very capable little scope. A shame that SW don't do a 'proper' 100p like they do with the 130pds.

    • @Astrolavista
      @Astrolavista  11 місяців тому +1

      That would be cool! though I think the reason they don't make a pds smaller than 130mm is because of the 2" focuser drawer tube cutting into the light path when racked in to reach focus with a camera.
      The 130pds's I've used in the past had quite a notch cut out of the defocused star pattern by the drawer tube, and I think there is a common mod folks do where they saw a bit of length off the drawer tube to help prevent this if they are only using the scope for imaging and not visual also.
      A 2" focuser would cut into a large percentage of the mirrors surface area when racked in to reach focus with a camera on a 100pds, but they could make one with a short drawer tube purely for imaging to limit this and add an extra long extension tube for visual perhaps?

    Ah! There's video compression Aliasing/artifacts at the end of the video when zooming into Jupiter. It settles down once the zooming ends.
