- There are two reasons to revive interest in the Hollywood star Rock Hudson in 2010: If he had not died of AIDS 25 years ago, it would have been his 85th birthday in November 2010. The film portrays a very male looking gay leading man who had to perform a secret balancing act between the heterosexual Hollywood world and the dark side of closeted sexuality. In fact he was someone who always needed to tell lies. He had to become a very good actor even in real life. The film includes interviews with his French doctor Dr. Philippe Siou and Dr. Michael Gottlieb, Rock’s American doctor who became the first physician to describe a new disease that would later become known as AIDS, friends like Stockton Briggle and his personal secretary Mark Miller, Yanou Collart, his French PR manager, Armistead Maupin, bestselling author, Richard Dyer, film historian, Robert Hofler, author of the book “The Man Who Invented Rock Hudson”, Richard Anderson and Salome Jens, co-stars of “SECONDS”, Leonard Stern, producer of Hudson’s TV series “McMillan&Wife” and Hollywood reporter Rona Barrett.
I was a payroll manager, and when an employee passed away I had to handle the death certificates and notices etc… and I remember crying when I received my first Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, death certificate, looked at the name and it was a great friend that I truly adored. Broke my ❤

This was a fantastic, and incredible, documentary on Rock Hudson. I have watched so many but this is the most illuminating one of them all. It was so personal and insightful. I wasn't going to click because I thought I would see the same information. Thank you for this documentary. Rock Hudson was surrounded by love and good friends in the final year of his life. You can't ask for much more than that. God Bless Miss Elizabeth Taylor. Without her, there wouldn't be recognition of AIDS.

I'm a 63 year old heterosexual woman who has enough compassion and empathy to feel really sad for not only Rock Hudson but for ALL people that had to live their lives as total lies because not only was homosexuality immoral to many minds of the time but ILLEGAL in many places . I feel like we still have a ways to go but at least we've made some progress !!

Lived in LA in 70s. Friend was was a friend of Rock and his lover. Fortunate to have been invited couple Sunday brunches. His lover made "Red Hot Mother Fers" Delicous.....Rock was a "secret " to many but many also know...HIV/AIDS was also a mystery in that era. Not understood..

@lisabarr6004 Thank you. Rock and his lover were gracious hosts. Both very low-keyed...Noticed a typo: Lived in LA late 70s-80s. Probably met them in early 80s. We just sat around pool and talked. My friend was a Broadway producer so he and Rock had lots to talk about.

First as a gay man I’m lucky because I am HIV positive and have a kick ass immune system and never got ill and now take hiv meds which I take as a profilactive . My lover was not as lucky.he would die. He would die along with hundreds of other men yet I have to be thankful to Mr Hudson because if it wasn’t for him it be much longer before HIV him it would have taken even longer before any meds would come about.
Now my mother was a very well educated woman of Mr Hudson generation. Even so my mother said she always knew about Mr Hudson I said how did you know about him being gay. She a lady who lived in Brooklyn. Said I don’t know but to me it never mattered. I said yes but how did you know. She said she didn’t know I just have to be thankful to him

This beautiful man with an even more beautiful soul story was well-critiqued and told here. I remember seeing him in lots of movies growing up. And even though I was fairly young and wet behind the ears I knew he had and was something special. It was awesome how the rainbow 🌈 appeared around the water once his ashes were scattered. How’s that for a sign of the spectacular spirit he possessed?👍🏾💙

I wasn't sure I'd like this because of the visual & narrative style--particularly the overuse of quick cuts & random footage, & the extremely non-linear timeline.
However it evolves into a very personal story told by people who loved Rock Hudson & knew him well. It's a lovely portrait of the other side of his life--his private life where he could relax & be himself among friends & loved ones who knew him as Roy.
I really appreciate this glimpse into who Roy was when he wasn't performing 'Rock Hudson' for the world.
Marc Christian was a gold digger. His relationship with Rock was long over but he wouldn’t leave Rocks house. He was relegated to one room. Rock could never bring himself to end a relationship, instead he just froze out the person. According to several books he had not been intimate with Christian for a long time. After Rock died the press came and went crazy at the gates of The Castle. Elizabeth Taylor sent her security over to help. They didn’t know how the press found out until they got the phone bill. There were two phone calls made immediately after he died. One was to Liz Taylor that his secretary made, and the other was to the National Enquirer, which none of his staff made. The only other person in the house was Christian. He was a gold digger when he was with Rock and after Rocks death. Rock paid for Christian to be aids tested by the best doctors. He was negative. He never developed AIDS. now at that time, if you slept with someone who had AIDS it was a death sentence. You were almost guaranteed to get it. Christian never did. That can only mean he never slept with Hudson when he had AIDS, as his lawyer argued when the gold digger sued Rocks estate. The law suit was based on an incorrect premise. That Rock didn’t tell Christian he had AIDS so he could still have sex with him. It was a lie. He wasn’t told because he had already threatened to call the press about their relationship. Marc Christian’s death was karma for his lies and evilness.

The original news source that confirmed she was his daughter was the blast but other than articles afterwards parroting what they've said there doesn't seem to be anymore evidence of the lawsuit being successful. Mark Griffin the author of 'all that heaven allowed' couldn't find much evidence of him having biological children. Author Darwin Porter (Same guy who claimed Nick Adams and Elvis slept together whilst watching the moon landing so not exactly the most trustworthy source) also claimed he had a son named Richard and others have claimed he has a daughter who isn't Susan.
This was very well done and I appreciate the respect and effort put in to this. Just curious as to why his time on Dynasty wasn't included.
Because he knew he had A.I.D.S. and concealed/denied it even though he had kissing scenes. The maker of the video wants to paint him as a gay martyr persecuted by society.

This was an excellent tribute to a very fine talented man. It gave me a new appreciation and respect for him. In those days they were so ignorant about aids and homosexuality it was inhuman. Thank God there has been some advancement.

Great interviews and details of his life, but the crazy "jumping around and blurred photography and that MUSIC" was so irritating and inappropriate at times.I found myself fast forwarding allot which was a bummer.
