A driver is killed when an experimental race car using an oil-fueled engine blows up. Lucky Taylor, a stunt driver, devises a scheme to have a car equipped with the engine entered into a race, without race officials--or the engine designer's sassy daughter--finding out about it.

Was the age of three when this film came out. Fun to see cars of that day. Both of my maternal uncles were professional drivers. Grew up around the tracks and "pitts" loving every second. To this day cars have a special place in my life (even though I no longer get behind the wheel). Have to watch this a secod time since the cars captured my attention the first time round. See you at the next showing with Pizza Flix.

That's what is wonderful about these classic films, they are a time capsule from another age.

The other night on UA-cam I watched a movie as classic as this call "Hot Rod", it was like a timewarp to a better world and life was more innocent...

This was one of those feel good films that were popular in another time when life was simpler and people had morals and manners. Glad to have the opportunity to have seen this one. Thanks to Pizza Flix for uploading this one~!

Ah, back when cars had bumpers and you could give someone a push. Try that now and it's several thousands of dollars in body shop bills and you have to get all of that plastic replaced! Good film, thank you for sharing. Lots of great one liners in this, funny flick.

What a fun movie to watch. Hard to understand why it took so long for something as simple as a roll bar to be used.

Cheesey sets, B-movie actors, a plot so thin you can read a newspaper thru it, but interspersed with actual racing scenes - seeing drivers killed due to no safety equipment ( it weighted too much for a race car.), in a movie of 1940 vintage technology...well, that makes a good movie.

Another great movie, thanks a lot....but....an oil burning motor? Wonder what the octane of the oil was......hmmm...

Can anyone explain to me why the woman gets "attracted" after the guy hurls himself through walls of flame and barrel rolls? 🤔
Is this what women expected back then?
...and I recognize one dude from the twilight zone series. "Rocket Fuel Frisby"

The final trace rack looks to be brick paved but I can't see any of the usual Indy track features - so was it Indy or were there other paved tracks in 1940.
Indy was tarmaced in 1938 so presumably this race was filmed elsewhere or were the actor's racing shots interspersed with genuine Indy footage!

This movie ranks up there with the sci-fi movies of the early 1950’s as far as production quality and story line…..or lack thereof. I wonder how much it made at the box office.

Weird how when the TV westerns became the rage in the late 50's to early 60's a lot of these guys traded the Hot Rods for horses and 6 guns . Very cool !

James Walker.......thanks for your insight .....a number of men were injured , even killed while racing in general. Both my uncle's were professional drivers. One uncle was seriously burned twice on separate occasions. Another uncle was working under a car when the jacked filed, cushing his chest. As soon as they recovered both were back on the track. My grandparents worried about all six children , especially " the boys " but much more when earlier they enlisted to fight in WW ll. Our family held both men in great love & highest regard. Auto racer have always been and remain very special people.

I remember growing up in North Jersey with 7 channels. 2,4,5,7,9,11, and 13. Imagine, that was the most channels anyone had in the country, and there was always something good to watch. And you're correct, the best movies were shown on the local NY metro channels 5,7, and 9.
Remember the "million dollar movie"? And also the "late show" and the "late late show"?
