    Not sure what happened. I left a long comment, but it disappeared. Loved your video! So much great info. The sites you recommended are great as well. Favourite pigments - PV15 Smalt, PY129, PY150, PR206, PV16, all Perylenes, and W&N Transparent Orange and Aqua Green. Thanks for the great video!

    You must have put a lot of work into this info-packed video. The world of pigments can be confusing and intimidating. You've presented it with a clear, concise, and engaging approach. I think this is an excellent introduction to pigments for beginning watercolorists. As an intermediate/advanced painter, I also found a whole lot of value in this. Thank you!

    Ah yes, pthalo greens, the ones that refuse to wash out of my brush bristles. Sometimes it takes me a good few minutes with the brush soap to get the pthalo greens out

    Watercolors are fun to play with, but scare me when trying to create “serious” pieces as wall art. Knowing this info makes it a little less scary. 😇 Thanks so much for sharing!

    Thank you for such a great video on a very hazy subject (for me,at least)!
    It took me 2 years to finally understand,that paints containing the same pigment could have different names! I thought, if it's called differently, it's different colour. 😂 But, to coin a fraze - it's not shameful not to know, it's shameful not to learn!
    Love your humour and enthusiasm, your haul videos are pure joy to watch, because your delight with your new goodies just jumps off the screen and feels a bit like watching a kid getting a Christmas gift, which was dreamed of since forever!

    Loved this video! So much work!! I really enjoy watching / reading about pigments. I first started digging after hearing people mention light-fastness and I was intrigued by that, then some of the other properties caught my attention. I love Dr Oto Kano and Jane Blundell’s sites/channel. I need to check out Handprint by Bruce. My main interest in pigments these days is to understand how to use the information to my advantage for better mixes. As for favourite pigment? That’s a tough ask. I do enjoy granulating pigments for landscapes, so depending on what I’m painting, I might choose a granulating pigment. Too many colours to narrow down further!

    Excellent video! Very easy to understand I am so grateful for the pdf it's alot to remember, bless you! I was watching a tutorial the blend of colours were stunning to my eyes, I tried it and it was OK but not close to what I hoped for, so I watched the video again and she mentioned single pigments, which peeked my sudden interest, as a newbie I'm not sure which pigments are my favourites yet but the knowledge is very important.

      Thank you Janelle! That’s a good point 😂 I never really thought of them s as a family as I only use ultramarine blue , it’s main properties are that it is a large pigment and thus tends to be granulating, easy to lift / non staining and lightfast. 💙

    Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve had artist grade watercolors for a bout 2-3 years now but for a while I was scared to use them because I didn’t know which pigments are toxic and which are safe and around that time I developed really bad anxiety that made it difficult for me to use any art supplies (even regular graphite because I was so scared of harming my health) 😭 turns out I the only toxic colors that I have were the Holbein cerulean blue (although it doesn’t have a sticker on it and does have the AP logo) and quinacridone opera and a few colors that might cause skin sensitization. I’ve now kind of gotten over my fear of using them although I really do wish I could use cobalts but I heard the way it’s extracted is very unethical and it’s still toxic and expensive :,) do you know of any hues that are close?

    • @SketchesnScrubs
      @SketchesnScrubs  6 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for watching and your lovely words. I'm sorry to hear about your health anxiety and I am glad that things have improved. Some brands will have "cobalt hue" or "cerulean hue" which won't contain the cobalts ... they are usually phthalo blue mixed with white. Hope that helps xx

    Great video! Does anyone know of a database that has info on toxicity in pigments that is easy to understand? I’m avoiding toxicity in my paints because of my cats but all the info the brands put out is hard to understand and some colours arent as obviously documented as toxic as, say, the cadmium’s.
    Also my favourite colours are the dark violet brown pr101 colours. Sometimes called caput mortuum or Indian red!😍 earth tones in general ROCK!
