I started placing Flumph in all my decks. I wanted to start to add more politics to my commander games and I found that this little guy works wonders in doing so. I tell my opponents when I cast Flumph "I will allow you to be the one who draws with me if you attack with only one creature that won't kill Flumph so I can block." Every time I play it I get at least three cards out of it and I also end up at a healthy life total mid game. I highly recommend just trying this card out!
You know what, you probably missed something if you never had anyone take your coveted jewel from you. One of the reasons why I love this card so much is because I had opponents take so many poor decisions and basically trade and kill each other just to get the damn jewel while I was catching up at my end of the table. You know people want their 3 cards and sometimes what they are ready to pay for it is much more than what they get ;)
the common denominator between eternal witness, luminous broodmoth, goblin welder, momentous fall, pull from eternity, vanish into memory, and release to the wind are that they are all answers to when people try to kill your shit or after people kill your shit.
I remember when Pull From Eternity and Riftsweeper were banned in EDH because there was no command zone yet. Just sat in exile like everything else. This was also prior to the.. all encompassing replacement effect. Being able to throw a general into the grave or shuffle it into their deck ala Sweeper was .. interesting. hah
Sun Forger was a pet card of mine for awhile like 10 years ago. Now that everyone knows how good it is I’ve dialed it back a lot, but a 2 mana panic button with a +4/+0 buff is great in Boros.
Watched the channel a few times now and definitely enjoyed the content. Especially the lists of lesser known cards. Had to comment on this one though because of the This or the Apacolypse reference in the background. One of my favorite live shows I've seen.
Bane of Progress is a perfect example of why green is the strongest color in non cedh. So much ramp for non green decks is artifact based. Bane often comes down, destroys a couple key things that need removed while setting back non green players 3-4 mana a turn all while being in a color that ramps faster on what is now a giant threat. It simply does so much. From my perspective if the green player can not only ramp but also blow up other colors mana, then people should be more acceptable of land destruction since green is essentially doing that on Bane.
Im already acceptable of symetrical mass land destruction, most players dont because they lack a very important trait: patience. Also, blue is the strongest color. Green is a strong color but blue is the only color to consistently deal with instants and sorceries, which decide games.
@@GiantTromboner Yea I mostly tend to win next turn. That said, it can fail if my opponents somehow stop my strategy, and in that case I see no reason for players to scoop if they know they can still win the game. There are some fun but underwhermling commanders that need it or else they don't function.
@@GiantTromboner The problem there lies that if you mention it you're exposing a valuable strategy, and a big factor of many wincons is their surprise factor. Should the counterspell deck tell you he is running them because you don't like counterspells? Make the rules beforehand, not ask players to tell you what's in their deck to then make the rules after. That's kinda cheating.
I put Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots into almost every commander deck, regardless of whether my commander has a tap ability. Being able to prevent my commander from being a target of Swords to Plowshares, Beast Within, Anguished Unmaking, Generous Gift, Pongify, Ravenform, Infernal Grasp, Doom Blade, Resculpt, Path to Exile, Chaos Warp, on and on is so important and can decide games. It's a huge added bonus when I can give anything haste as well. For a less popular card, I use Goblin Matron in non-goblin tribal decks to add useful goblins to my hand that help me tutor other cards or play into my deck's theme. For example, I have a Kelsien deck that uses basilisk collar on pingers to instantly kill creatures. I can grab Goblin Sharpshooter or Goblin Engineer to get whichever piece I'm missing and potentially wipe the board dealing 1 deathtouch damage to all creatures.
Coveted Jewel It's hilariously good in a deck piloted by Inniaz. Get your value on drop, attack, trigger the shuffle to your target, get it back for value. Bonkers good, feels broken as hell to opponents.
That's a great list! Bane of Progress continues to be an all-star for me because artifacts are so heavily used in this format. I have built entire decks around anti-artifact strategies and they perform amazingly.
I would say with Immortal Sun there are plenty of planes walkers with great static abilities like Ashiok, Dream Render or Narset, Parter of Veils so you could still get value off having a few walkers in the mix
I LOVE Coveted Jewel. My opponents do too, I've absolutely had to hand it off. I run it in Aminatou so I can bounce it back to my board if they do. Even if it's still on my board, bounce it to draw 3 more cards and get access to 3 more mana. So strong. Vanish into Memory is also one of my pet cards. Again, in my Aminatou deck which is a manifest deck. I love using it on a facedown creature that's actually an enchantment. Exile it, draw 2, it re enters face up as an enchantment and I don't discard
I put Pull from Tomorow in my Niambi, Faithful Healer deck because it's a (not so) secret commander deck for Teferi Timebender, but she can only ETB tutor him out of the Graveyard or Library. Paying 1 white mana at instant speed to put my Teferi back in the graveyard from exile can be a game changer, especially if my opponents thought they had me hosed. Great card, I agree.
I find I put Hex Parasite in every black deck I can. I'm also a big fan of Blightbeetle and Rotting Regisaur. And you've also pointed out Nightmare Unmaking, which is bonkers. Skyclave Relic is my go-to mana rock, regardless of what colors I'm playing.
A lot of these are heavy favorites of mine, too. Another one is Cannibalise. Two mana to exile in Black is just amazing. The fact that it's an old sorcery almost doesn't even matter, no one ever sees it coming. Just poofing away an Ulamog and giving a useless Eldrazi Scion +1/+1 in exchange is endlessly hilarious
Man I really should look at the commander 2021 decklists, I feel like there's so many cards from that set that I've never seen before and would go really well in tons of decks. Coveted Jewel seems like an absolute banger in my Breya deck with how much artifact saccing and recursion I've got.
Coveted jewel in Bosh Iron Golem I would say is such a nice fit! Draw three cards and you have three mana and if you saved one mana you can just sacrifice it to deal six damage to someone as well :)))
I would love to see a video specifically about why you dislike planeswalkers so much. I also despise them and only have 1 or 2 being Koth and Xenagos mostly as recurring rituals. Superfriends was really big around 2016-18. I think your thoughts on plansewalkers and even specific ones you don't like would be a fun video.
Crypt Rats with Touch of Moonglove - the build your own Massacre Wurm that also kills everything bigger than 2 toughness. It's one of my favorite little combos
I also play a lot of Thaumatic Compass in my decks. It's quite common for me to run Treasure Map alongside it. Just nice ways to get an extra land onto the battlefield while getting other kinds of value. Typically give you card advantage while not drawing hate from the other players.
Momentous fall is so good. I have him in my omnath locus of mana deck. You can pay the alt casting cost first, for the p/t then once sacked use your floating mana to pay for cast. It’s the best pay 4 draw 15+
See the Unwritten and Tempting Licid in green, Aetherspouts and Verity Circle in blue, Imp's Mischief in black, Bloodthirsty Blade as an artifact, and, if I'm in red/green (and all my decks seem to have gruul in them these days for some reason), Vexing Shusher.
I'm a big fan of Coveted Jewel. Especially with a Blazing Archon/Ensnaring Bridge effect. You just draw 3 and get mana. Especially if you can blink it with a Brago effect
Probably Heartless Summoning for me. Did awesome work in my Kolaghan dash-tribal deck. 3 mana to pump up your Tome of legends, dragon hoard or sarkhan's unsealing isn't a bad rate, and the -1/-1 isn't so bad when Kolaghan is pumping your whole team for a billion. Can't believe it's still so cheap, considering it's never been reprinted.
Red decks I always run Molten Psyche (especially if I can copy it). Black decks I try to use Dash Hopes, Vampiric Link and Treacherous Urge. Blue, I like Wipe Away and Stifle effects. Green I run Berserk and Avoid Fate. White I love Light from Within (mono white).
- Living Death: Removal/reanimation - Reclaim: Instant Regrowth - Mirage Mirror: I love this card. - Toggo, WeaponSmith: A typical deck has over 30 lands, even getting a couple rocks in a game is incredibly surprising how useful they can be. Goblin Welder is fun in my Prosper deck since the red card draw classically makes me discard: ''Oops I discarded this crazy artifact I better sacrifice a treasure and get it back'' LOL Bane Of Progress was nuts back in my CEDH group. Play B0P wreck the board, Xenagos would double it, haste and I would swing on the pillow fort player for average 15-20 but over the years I removed it for cheaper removal and lack of trample made me sad ;P
I love sun droplet. Usually worth an additional 20 or so odd life over the course of a game for 2 mana. Makes you less of an appealing target as well. In my oloro deck, it can make me nearly invincible with cleric class and boon reflection type of cards.
The two I always used to were Headgames and polymorphist’s jest, got to the point where people just didn’t attack me because they assumed I had the jest. It’s only bad against counter themes and voltron strategies although if their commander is naturally big it can still work.
Funniest one I recall was someone was playing a super friends deck and used that war of the spark Sarkan to try to swing for the win with about 8 planeswalkers…😆 His face was a picture!
Bane of Progress is nice in my Meren deck, it's easy to sac and reuse with graveyard recursion. Mostly artifact hate this way but if you keep it on the board with some counters it's not terrible. Whiptongue Hydra is almost the same card but for flying creatures, I use that as well just for some repeatable hate with Meren.
I play Oblation in every single white deck. Being able to have an out to any permanent other than a land, and also it being a draw two especially in a token deck makes it so versatile
My pet card is Groundbreaker (GGG elemental 6/1 trample, haste and sac at eot. I pulled it in a time spiral pack way back when. Always been one of my favs next to Borborygmos and Thundermare. Also when I started playing commander recently, I put it in my Muldrotha deck and that combo is just beastly.
21:15 I disagree that its a better version of Maze of Ith because of how many times I have used MoI on my own creatures, especially in more offensive decks that needs to attack to get triggers. But I do like the artifact and do use it in some decks
With all the Treasure/Clue/Blood/thopter/etc artifact tokens everywhere, Bane of Progress has definitely hit Maximum Value. Never mind it wrecking Equipment, enchantments, mana rocks. Talk about a literal bomb. I see pet cards as a bit more fringe, though. Sometimes they are simply suboptimal, other times they have special meaning to a player because it was their first Mythic, or they want to see it "go off" in a 4-5 card combo, or whatever. Mine are on the order of Sunbird's Invocation, Nacatl War-Pride, Eldrazi Displacer, Crescendo of War, War's Toll, Reconnaissance, Seance.
A few pet cards I run are Reality Shift. Simic lacks quality creature removal outside of this, Beast Within, Ravenform, and Boomerang. Blood Pet. A black mana dork that you sacrifice for B. Perfect in many aristocrats builds, monoblack decks with expensive commanders, and Meren of Clan Nel Toth decks is where this shines. Aftershock. Red spot removal with options, and it hits creatures. 2RR may seem expensive to cast (depends on what you kill), but the 3 damage drawback is laughable. Excellent in Locust God builds and Izzet spellslinger decks alongside Reality Shift. Bequeathal. This green 1 mana aura can easily draw you 2 cards, and you can put it on any creature. Hilarious to enchant Blood Pet or any creature with a free sacrifice trigger, and useful to help deter removal on commanders. Crosis's Charm. Your choice of Shatter, Dark Banishing or Boomerang for UBR. Sign me up!! Corpse Connoisseur. Who likes repeatable Entomb triggers?? I do!
Love Coveted Jewel, played against an Osgir deck and they created six copies in total and tapped out so they couldn't sac them and I was able to swing my Dryad Arbor at them and get a full grip and steal the game out from under them.
Gonna have to stick Release to the Wind into my Ranar deck. Free spirit, and If I have Vega, the Watcher out (assuming I targeted my own permanent) as well I get to draw a card too. Not too shabby.
As someone who’s playgroup gave the ok for a Mothra, Supersonic Queen deck (Luminous Broodmoth), can confirm goes nuts with Solemnity. Hands down my favorite deck, but my group is also pretty combo heavy, so infinites aren’t as hated as I’ve seen from others in the community. Momma Moth is OP
theres actually more uses for pull from eternity not mentioned you Cards that exile themselves after casting like Teferi's protection, and Worst fears and a vast majority of extra turn spells like Temporal Mastery you can do it again if you got a way to get it out of the yard them you can sabotage effects that involve exiling as part of making something work like Imprint or Cipher for example
I find myself putting Echoing Truth in most of my decks. 2 Mana, bounce any permanent at instant speed (like cyclonic rift etc), which can be used on your opponents stuff to save you from a lethal threat, bounce their combo piece, or on your stuff to save it. But the BEST thing is when you bounce a TOKEN! It bounces all other tokens with the same name. Such a blowout for 2 mana : )
I've been thinking about running Bane in my bant enchantment deck... Yes, it might hurt me (deck is more a lab man rather then voltron deck) But I'm also running most of the Theros gods so they will survive...
For me it's Prophetic Flamespeaker, which has double strike and trample and impulse draws when it deals damage to an opponent. I slam it in any red deck with the slimmest excuse to run it (tribal synergies, lots of equipment, unblockability, etc.)
Fevered Visions is in every deck that will run it. People don't want to get rid of it because it's letting them draw cards but, it's also slowly chipping away at their life total. Also: Null Profusion and Recycle. I don't know why they are not played more often. I'll draw three or four cards a turn with them.
My pet card is Unexpected Results. I just like the pure randomness of revealing the top card of my library and having my opponents think of countering the card or let me cast it for free. It is also a may able too, so it keeps them on their toes.
Lurking Predators is my #1 pet card. It’s kinda costly with the mana cost, but totally worth it for the games you get lucky and throw down some big creatures. Plus, I like fun “take a chance” cards.
Bonds of Mortality. I got several copies with some bulk, and I put it in a bunch of green decks esp if they care about enchantments. ETB draw a card, pay 1 green and opponents creatures lose hexproof and indestructible!
1) I think the most I have drew from Vanish into memory was 52 when I Mirrorweaved my Precursor Golem and then proceed to Vanish Into Memory every creature in play. 20 from targeting a Marit Lage is probably 2nd. 2) I also love Coveted Jewel. It is a great clone target. Obviously commanders like Orvar loves it. I have also used it in 4-card infinite combos with Mind Over Matter, Kiki-Jiki and March of the Machines. But my best play with it was to make it a creature with March of the Machines, turn all creatures in play into Coveted Jewels with Mirrorweave and attack all my opponents with 3 unblockable creatures (there was a Venser, the Sojourner in play) and steal all my opponents creatures+drawing a billion cards in the process. Fun times. XD XD XD 3) I removed my Bane of Progress from my Hans Eriksson deck. Last time I used it, it was revealed from my Lurking Predators trigger. Bane entered into play, destroying my Platinum Emperion, my 8 treasures (from my Dockside Extortionist), my Ascetisism and the Lurking Predators itself, practically ruining my entire game. Do not underestimate the negative impact Bane can have in your board.
Vanish Into Memory an Eldrazi and Pull From Eternity. 🤯 It's Return of the Wildspeaker + destroy an indestructible creature... only just a little bit of a corner case scenario.😛 Release to the Wind + Void Mirror/Lavinia/Gaddock Teeg type effects seems great. It's a way to hatebear a card in retrospect.
My biggest pet card is marionette master. She’s the card that singlehandedly made me fall in-love with magic and any time I have a deck that has black and happens to have any way of generating treasures or clue tokens or whatever, she’s an insta add
Aura Thief is by far my biggest pet card. People are generally afraid to attack into it and any sac outlet can have you stealing a bunch if random enchantments for value
My pet card is empowered autogenerator. My playgroup always overlooks it in the early game which allows me to accrue progressively massive amounts of mana in the late game.
Lore wise, the Imortal Sun hoses planeswalkers because that is what it actually does: forbids walkers to planeswalk at all. It was one of the key pieces in Bolas's plan to gather all walkers in Ravnica and genocide them all, becoming a Multi-Planar Demigod
My PET cards have to be the Lairs. It's a cycle of lands that got recently reprinted in dominaria remastered, and they are like the og Ravnica bounce lands, but BETTER: come into play untapped, add three different colors and the only downsize Is that you have to Return a non-Lair Land you control to the hand, a Land that you can still tap before bouncing and if It has and etb like Bojuka Bog, you can use it again. If a deck has those colors, the Lair goes in. Too bad the cycle isn't complete for all the color combinations like the triomes. They are also dirty cheap, perfect for budget players.
I had that thought too when theory crafting Hofri, but thought it was a nonbo due to Hofri's replacement effect for the 'dies' trigger on Broodmoth... just re looked at it when you mentioned this and realised that you can stack the Broodmoth triggers first (I'm assuming a boardwipe scenario), kill everything (including the broodmoth and Hofri), then the moth trigger happens bringing back the Hofri and all other creatures you control as flyers (except the moth) then Hofri triggers and brings back the broodmoth (as a hasty 4/5 Trample spirit). Did I get that right? If so, that is awesome : )
@@prob094 that is indeed correct, always stack it so the broodmoth trigger resolves first so you get the actual creature with flying, then if it dies again then only Hofri will trigger as the creature will have flying
Pet card: master warcraft because it comes out of nowhere and disrupts the entire board Or jesters cap because it can essentially hate someone out of the game Vorpal sword because ignore the lost game effect and it is really good buff And elfhame sanctuary as a poor man's land tax, and silverglade pathfinder for a recurring ramp. However any Spellshaper specifically the ones from mercadian Masques or time spiral block are really good for that specific spell they make.
I Run Momentous Fall In My Willowdusk Deck Where It Works Extremely Well, I Can Attack With A Huge Lifelinker And Then Sac It To Gain More Life And Draw A Heap Of Cards Then Just Make Another Huge Lifelinker Off Of The Life Gained This Turn
Harmonic prodigy, Endbringer, and crypt rats are my pet cards. Crypt rats has become a blow out card in my Mairsil deck, especially when I get him lifelink. Last game I gained ~80 life in a turn, while whipping out all my opponents creatures.
One of my fav pet cards is Congregate (3W, instant, target player gains 2 life for each creature on the battlefield). Janky but causes hilarious lifeswings, and I love the political potential of being able to save another player from death at instant speed.
I started placing Flumph in all my decks. I wanted to start to add more politics to my commander games and I found that this little guy works wonders in doing so. Engulfing Slagwurm is such a card for me. It just has this ultra Timmy vibe that no other creature can beat.
I love putting a lure effect on it

Bane Of Progress was nuts back in my CEDH group. Play B0P wreck the board, Xenagos would double it, haste and I would swing on the pillow fort player for average 15-20 but over the years I removed it for cheaper removal and lack of trample made me sad ;P
I put Druid of Purification and Liquimetal Torque in every green deck
I love sun droplet. Usually worth an additional 20 or so odd life over the course of a game for 2 mana. Makes you less of an appealing target as well. In my oloro deck, it can make me nearly invincible with cleric class and boon reflection type of cards.
The two I always used to were Headgames and polymorphist’s jest, got to the point where people just didn’t attack me because they assumed I had the jest. It’s only bad against counter themes and voltron strategies although if their commander is naturally big it can still work.
I recently used Jest on an Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker just to remove flying and allow it to be blocked
Also when I started playing commander recently, I put it in my Muldrotha deck and that combo is just beastly.
the color change version of ball lightning.
21:15 I disagree that its a better version of Maze of Ith because of how many times I have used MoI on my own creatures, especially in more offensive decks that needs to attack to get triggers.
But I do like the artifact and do use it in some decks
Merciless Eviction is probably my equivalent of Bane of Progress, so satisfying. :)
I play coveted jewel in raff and I flash it in to untap with it and it feels great
With all the Treasure/Clue/Blood/thopter/etc artifact tokens everywhere, Bane of Progress has definitely hit Maximum Value.
My favorite pet card is winning with charging badger because the honey badger doesn’t give a s h i t as a 1/1 with trample.
A few pet cards I run are
Reality Shift.
I do!
The Great Henge is definitely one of mine. I just love that card.
Momma Moth is OP
theres actually more uses for pull from eternity not mentioned
you
Cards that exile themselves after casting like Teferi's protection, and Worst fears and a vast majority of extra turn spells like Temporal Mastery you can do it again if you got a way to get it out of the yard
them
you can sabotage effects that involve exiling as part of making something work like Imprint or Cipher for example
After hearing your thoughts on Bane of Progress, what is your opinion of Planar Cleansing? Is hitting the early creatures relevant in your games?
If you like Momentous Fall, you'll love Life's Legacy. Sorcery speed version of the card without lifegain, but it only costs 1G.
Fun times. XD XD XD
3) I removed my Bane of Progress from my Hans Eriksson deck.
For me its helm of the host and conquerers galleon, not all that easy to use in most decks but great value when you can
Vanish Into Memory an Eldrazi and Pull From Eternity. 🤯 It's Return of the Wildspeaker + destroy an indestructible creature... only just a little bit of a corner case scenario.😛
Release to the Wind + Void Mirror/Lavinia/Gaddock Teeg type effects seems great. It's a way to hatebear a card in retrospect.
Pull from Eternity is a sweet card I didn’t know about!
Hi i just pulled a retrieve and i think its easily is better then eternal witness? Except for graveyard decks
Luminous Broodmoth in my Hofri Ghostforge ETB sacrifice theme deck is outrageous. Protects Hofri and effectively doubles Hofris power.
@@satpiegaming6756 Nice : )
Ash barrens for me, you ll always have the mana to cycle it, it fix your mana and can tap for colorless if you re desperate !
Always trying to wedge the older flip cards in decks. Elbrus and chalice of life.
Pet card: master warcraft because it comes out of nowhere and disrupts the entire board
Or jesters cap because it can essentially hate someone out of the game
Vorpal sword because ignore the lost game effect and it is really good buff
And elfhame sanctuary as a poor man's land tax, and silverglade pathfinder for a recurring ramp.
However any Spellshaper specifically the ones from mercadian Masques or time spiral block are really good for that specific spell they make.
Vanish into Memory is probably my number one pet card. Good choice!
Pull from eternity && that one Karn planeswalker are insane in osgir
Release to the winds targeting ulamog, then mychosyntn lattice and bane of progress
tortured existence is my auto include for virtually any black deck. New pet card would be stinging study with high cmc commanders
I got coveted jewel a couple of weeks ago and now I have like three decks were I need to play it.
I didnt even think about coveted jewel thats going right into my Shadrix politics deck.
Wandering archaic is my personal pet card, play it more people!
One of my fav pet cards is Congregate (3W, instant, target player gains 2 life for each creature on the battlefield). Janky but causes hilarious lifeswings, and I love the political potential of being able to save another player from death at instant speed.
Combo Congregate with Tainted Remedy and/or Rain of Gore. Enjoy a 1 shot kill.
Ever since seeing it on this channel, Tranquil Grove is a card I try to fit into every green deck
