- Notes on I took a Pill in Ibiza: Mike Posner is a really great writer. I've been a fan of his for some time. This song has a great lyric. It really SAYS something. It's sense of honesty about finding your way to the top and realising that life can still feel empty even from up on the stage is what I find so addictive in this one. It's not necessarily relatable but it's truthful to him and that shines through this song. We took it somewhere between the original acoustic version and the Seeb remix. It was learnt and recorded within 20 minutes this time. It just seemed to roll out nice and easy.
For all those asking - I am making these videos in downtime between producing album No.8. It's looking like it is going to be all original music this time. I'll obviously be sharing it with you as soon as it's ready. In the meantime, enjoy these little vids from my home studio. As you can see we are having a blast making them!

I love learning other people’s songs. I find it teaches me a whole lot about songwriting which is particularly inspirational when I’m writing a new album (which is what I am doing NOW!) This time I thought I’d film and record it for you all to check it out and start an official Song Society. The songs I will be doing will be learnt and performed live, warts and all within an hour. These are NOT definitive reconstructions, just a window in to my own education! As the process develops we could vote on what the next song will be if you like? It was only after listening to Jamie Cullum's jazz rendition that I noticed that I Took a Pill to Ibiza is a good song. I never noticed the lyrics before. It's kind of sad really. I kinda feel bad for Mike Posner. Thank you Jamie for making me appreciate pop songs ever more xD
The original is actually brilliant! The remix is ok but the original by Mike Posner is really really good

My absolute favourite part about Song Society is that you can clearly see they have a blast doing it :) and we all know Jamie turns everything he touches into pure gold :)

+Alan Weber I believe the Pursuit had some cover songs on there but had original music as well. The Interlude was all cover songs.

I think this cover does a fantastic job of finding a balance between the original and the remix. I feel like in the remix, the meaning of the lyrics gets lost, and the original is great, but a also a slow song. I like the vibe of this one. It's a fun beat, but the lyrics don't get lost in the music.
This is my favorite cover of his next to dont stop to music. Im glad he released it on spotify so i can listen this instead of the original version.

I really want to make a mashup between this and mercy mercy mercy by cannonball adderly with a jazz combo! Crazy but like the beat is sooo similar with the eighth notes and bass!! I just love how JAMIE was playing standards before he got into the pop song to make his own twist on it! Very inspirational!
I'd love to see you do a cover of heathens (twenty one pilots). the song does a great job at bringing dark/insane aspects together with innocence. but it is just another pop song and lacks the special something. I'm sure you would be capable of getting that right
