One thing you forgot to mention is that the player character is actually familiar with the Iconian V'Lar. She is the Iconian whose herald was wounded in the mission 'Midnight', where the player character helped her get medical aid for her herald.
Did Mark Hale restyle his hair? As for the mission part itself, this alt-universe is a rather ... interesting mashup of characters, factions, and events. Also, I think given that the Iconians are in their OG form & Sela is Starfleet, in this timeline, she didn't betray the Iconians but instead saved their Worldheart in an alt-Midnight, so the Iconian War never happened in that universe & the Iconians are more like the Metrons.
I'm calling it, The Aetherians are alternate universe Iconians that go from parallel universe to parallel universe, unleash the Borg on them and then show up and pretend to save the day. It's all one long con.
So Sela, who only exists because of a very specific incident, time travel shenanigans relating to that incident, somehow exists in a different universe where those incidents and identical timelines would be required for her to exist in the first place... Look, the Mirror Universe already stretches "who exists" to incredulity, but this takes that to several new levels.
Sela could exist if the Romulan officer was still alive but the paradox didn't happen. It seems like either the Republic formed extra early or more likely the Romulans fell and got absorbed into the Federation out of desperation. So this Sela is probably the youngest we've seen of her.

Hm. As mentioned in another comment the Aetherians *did* basically hack an Iconian gate in our universe without asking anyone else’s permission, and we have the example of Sela as bad-guy-alternate-being-a-good-guy, so it’s not unreasonable to think the Aetherians might have ulterior motives. But why would the Aetherians want a World Heart? Do they think that their beef with one alternate version of Iconians justifies extending that beef to all versions? Guilty until proven innocent kind of thing?
I'm starting to wonder if they might not be descended from an Iconian or Herald group that survived the fall of icons in their native dimension in much better shape, but still without the world heart. So now hundreds of thousands of years later they might see this as a way to reclaim their long-lost ancient heritage. Either that or they are a REALLY weird alternate Borg, but that seems highly unlikely.

I've been trying to figure out how this timeline works, and the best I can put together is something along the lines of this. -Yesterday's Enterprise still had to have happened for Sela to exist. There is simply no other way for Sela to actually exist in a timeline. Therefore, the battle at Narendra III still had to have happened as well. -This probably means that the Iconians observed the Battle at Narendra III and it motivated them to become proactive in galactic affairs again. Around the time the Romulans attacked Khitomer, the Iconians likely made their presence known and forced the UFP and Star Empire into negotiations. A part of these negotiations likely meant the return of the captured crew of the Enterprise C. As a result, time displaced Tasha Yar and her daughter were likely returned to the UFP. -Because Tasha Yar shouldn't even exist, she'd first be offered a job with Temporal Investigations, but she'd quickly end up joining Section 31. Sela likely had a relatively ordinary upbringing in UFP space which eventually led to her enlistment in Starfleet. The relationship between mother and daughter probably became strained over the years due to Tasha's work in Section 31. I suspect that the death of the timelines normal Tasha Yar onboard the Enterprise D was something of a grim reminder of Section 31 Tasha Yar's mortality, which caused her to take an interest in Section 31's AI, Control. --Most Canon events still happened, with slight variations where the Iconians would occasionally get involved. Things probably came to a head much later in the timeline when Tasha Yar used Control to subvert The Borg. This probably led to the majority of the UFP's systems and technology being compromised by the Borg, and over a few years of conflict resulted in the world state that we see now.
Year probably just succeeded in this new universe in stealing her kid and escaping the Romulans, where in prime Yar failed. As for control, I suspect a very desperate Starfleet rebuilt a dumber version to use as a last-ditch weapon, but the Borg just assimilated it.

I just realized that the golden lighting is not a sign of the alternate universe, but the mark of them having the World Heart's power, since the same lighting appeared on the Iconian Flagship at the end of Midnight.

Heralds predate the Iconian war. They are present when you travel back in time. They are also using standard Iconian weapons that existed from that time as well. Alongside this, the Dyson Spheres were not expressly built as tools of war, as it was part of the backbone for their gateway network. There's a big chance that the Iconians of this universe simply didn't fall.
Yeah the Dyson Sphere’s were originally built as a kind of “Noah’s Arc” type deal that their civilization could escape to in case of catastrophe. I think the difference here is that Sela is a lot more chill. Our Sela fired on escaping Iconians and took the Workd Heart. Their Sela likely didn’t do that and as a result the Iconians kept their World Heart, and didn’t reengineer their society to pursue a vengeance filled reclamation of their space.
Mark Hale is fine until he goes to visit his family residence and breaks down in front of his older brother in a vineyard.... ...or the Hale family wine cellar.
I don't know for sure, of course, but I get the feeling that whatever happened to these Iconians in the past left them less vengeful and sinister than the ones in "our" universe. They obviously still have made use of servitors, but something about them suggests that they didn't spend 250 000 years plotting the violent downfall and genocidal cleansing of the galaxy. Maybe it's their fashion sense. The Aetherians seem like such _nice_ people, don't they? Experience (and no small amount of cynicism) tells me that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
My guess there is that Sela is much more even tempered in this universe, being captain of the Enterprise and all. In our reality it was Sela who fired on the escaping Iconians and “stole” the World Heart. That’s what made our Whole so vengeful. A more good natured Sela may not have inspired the vengeance.

Or after the Borg Kingdom's interdimensional assault the Aetherian's want to neutralize any Borg on the cusp of interdimensional travel. Our Borg are too fractured to have the resources to do such an assault but Borg Control hybrids definitely.
Sela captain of the enterprise? I mean. ya Multiverse but... Still. I hope this is a genuine ally or even if it IS 'our' sela, she udnerstands that breakign the world heart is a BAD thing.
The mirror universe is less everything is the opposite and more a world more deeply affected by fascism. My theory is that essentially power replaces knowledge as a core designer of a lot of known powers, such as humanity and the Borg. But like in the prime universe, there are exceptions to this, hence the various rebel heroes within the mirror universe like Voq, Spock, O’Brien, etc who reject these notions; just as in the prime universe there are those who pursue power over knowledge, such as the Dominion.
This story arc is a drag man. At every opportunity they have to do something interesting and unexpected the situation just resolves itself. Kummarke more than any other character is emblematic of this in the episode. When we left her on the other side of the gate the scene felt so ominous that I thought there might end up being some kind of trouble getting back. Was she still under Borg influence? Had she become victim of some kind of Athenian manipulation? Would her PTSD leave us stranded on the other side of the portal? Naw. In a situation we had totally under control she just decides “I’m over it,” and comes to…. Save the day in her little lightly armed warp five dorito? What even is the point of this character again? She is shoehorned into everything, adds nothing g of value, and my ship and crew are constantly babysitting this chick as she is sent into situations she is woefully unprepared for with only us as backup. Why was there not a task force ready to deploy in support of there was trouble? You are telling me that, had the Borg or something worse made it through the gateway, all we had to defend our space was one Lukari vessel with all the reliability and horsepower of a Tesla? And this is just one problem with this episode. The iconians lost their entire culture when the world heart was destroyed. Society wide existential crisis? Grief strike outbursts? Any kind of consequence whatsoever? Naw. They are all good. No greater geopolitical ramifications from that one. Oh and the Athenians have a clear path into another alternate reality. Somewhere in a conference room L’Rell and K’Men are getting frustrated as contingency plans are being shot down by Starfleet command who have completely forgotten quid pro quo. Someone has to take STO’s writers off to the side and tell them that “what if” plot lines are not inherently interesting. This arc is dull.
Considering the new TFO, I'm thinking that Kumarke's kind of gone First Contact Picard level obsessive there about the Borg, though way more methodical. She is mentioned to be in therapy over things with it though which is, probably, good there
The World Heart in this episode that was destroyed was probably a decoy. Probably explained why the Iconians were so calm about it. Also, Kummarke says at the end of the episode that she would take Dax's offer on getting therapy.

How would this mission (Iconia) ends without Data aboard? And many other missions without Data?
You introduce your character as Hale but it appears to be another male Starfleet character. Even so, it was interesting to meet Captain Sela.
I hope or wish they add bex and his peoples skin type to the creations tab for alien characters. I would love to make an alien with their markings

Not necessarily.
The mirror universe is less everything is the opposite and more a world more deeply affected by fascism. My theory is that essentially power replaces knowledge as a core designer of a lot of known powers, such as humanity and the Borg. But like in the prime universe, there are exceptions to this, hence the various rebel heroes within the mirror universe like Voq, Spock, O’Brien, etc who reject these notions; just as in the prime universe there are those who pursue power over knowledge, such as the Dominion.
This story arc is a drag man. At every opportunity they have to do something interesting and unexpected the situation just resolves itself. Kummarke more than any other character is emblematic of this in the episode. When we left her on the other side of the gate the scene felt so ominous that I thought there might end up being some kind of trouble getting back. Was she still under Borg influence? Had she become victim of some kind of Athenian manipulation? Would her PTSD leave us stranded on the other side of the portal? Naw. In a situation we had totally under control she just decides “I’m over it,” and comes to…. Save the day in her little lightly armed warp five dorito? What even is the point of this character again? She is shoehorned into everything, adds nothing g of value, and my ship and crew are constantly babysitting this chick as she is sent into situations she is woefully unprepared for with only us as backup. Why was there not a task force ready to deploy in support of there was trouble? You are telling me that, had the Borg or something worse made it through the gateway, all we had to defend our space was one Lukari vessel with all the reliability and horsepower of a Tesla?
And this is just one problem with this episode. The iconians lost their entire culture when the world heart was destroyed. Society wide existential crisis? Grief strike outbursts? Any kind of consequence whatsoever? Naw. They are all good. No greater geopolitical ramifications from that one.
Oh and the Athenians have a clear path into another alternate reality. Somewhere in a conference room L’Rell and K’Men are getting frustrated as contingency plans are being shot down by Starfleet command who have completely forgotten quid pro quo.
Someone has to take STO’s writers off to the side and tell them that “what if” plot lines are not inherently interesting. This arc is dull.
Considering the new TFO, I'm thinking that Kumarke's kind of gone First Contact Picard level obsessive there about the Borg, though way more methodical.
She is mentioned to be in therapy over things with it though which is, probably, good there
The World Heart in this episode that was destroyed was probably a decoy. Probably explained why the Iconians were so calm about it. Also, Kummarke says at the end of the episode that she would take Dax's offer on getting therapy.
@@AzraelThanatos What good does that do me as a consumer of the media to show her therapy off screen and remove all tension from the episode?

@@Shapes_Quality_Control I think the tension wasn't meant to be there for this part, but I think that it's building up for a later point in the story arc.
We're not even halfway through as of yet
So I guess in that universe Tasha got Sela back to the Federation.
Or Sela was born of a Romulan in her appropriate time as that Sela is younger than our prime timeline version.
