Had same experience. Spent 3 days on the floor. Offered 100% comp's. Made 1 deal with a dealer. Made multiple reasonable deals (both buying and selling) downstairs in the "VIP" area. Show was also way too heavy on vintage. At least 65% vintage if not more. I suspect when they stopped allowing dealers to re-sell their tables it cut out a lot of the modern dealers and new dealers who would be more reasonable to work with. The vintage was WAY over priced. It was a "show and tell" and not a card show. I was also shocked at DA and Blowout running Series 2 Hobby for $180 just because National Pack redemption. Predatory pricing.
Vintage is by far the best bet. Modern cards are insanely overpriced and almost ALWAYS lose value. A player has to over perform at a crazy level for cards to hold value or increase over time. Vintage cards consistently increase in prices over time. Take Jordan Star Co. cards.. 1984-85 #101 BGS 9s about to crack 100k in pricing. All of his star cards from 84-85 are skyrocketing.
For many years the Dealers at the national have always been impossible to work with.
