Headphones recommended. No external FX added. Recorded straight to the audio interface. Roland System-8: 8 performance patches programmed and played by Gattobus.
Thanks for showing the power and scope of this wonderful synth. Roland has you to thank for my picking one up on Saturday. Now it is time to practice, as having the gear is but a small part. Thanks for your inspirational music and posts. :)
“Above The Clouds” reminds me “Sailing”--gorgeous. Your take on “Love On A Train” is phenomenal. I could see that Porsche 928 and Rebecca De Mornay in my head. I bought an S8 because of you a few months back. Not a single regret. Such a beautiful sounding synth.
Hey Timecop, out of all the videos it would have been super appropriate for you to show up in the comments section of, it would be the "What can you do with a Bass Station II" on Red Means Recording, come on man, you gotta do it.
What an EPIC demo! And by far the best System 8 demo I've seen so far. Video and sound quality is so crystal clear and I really enjoy the simple but perfect camera view and aesthetic/mood you got here
Ive had my system 8 for about a week now, and i really love it. Also I really really want that patch you have on their called "silver lead" it sounds so incredible it damn near brings tears to my eyes. If you ever decide to make a bank of these for sale i will pick them up.
Good god .... you make this synth sound sooooo good. Of course I'd rush out a buy one only to discover the synth alone won't do much. It needs talent to get the best from it .... bravo you have it in spades. Thank you for sharing.
So take keyboard lessons. Never too late. Also there's programs like Auto Chord, Chord Phobia, Scale Phobia, Inversion Phobia that can teach you music theory, enough to make your own melodies and compose. :)
I’ve seen this video so many times over the last 4 years I’ve lost count. I just wanted to say thank for this. It’s the best sound design/synth demo I’ve ever seen on any synthesizer ever. Bravo my friend, you raise the bar for all of us👏🏼👏🏼
Very nice patches there gattobus :-) I too was in my local music store in Edinburgh which has got to be one of the largest stores in Edinburgh for musicians with more guitars and keyboards and other cool instruments than I know anywhere else in Scotland and where assisted by Dave Gardner who is the resident Roland specialist there and who showed me the System 8 for the very first time about a week ago, I went back at opening time this morning for a trial of the System 8 and I have to say that its a wonderful sysnth to play, I thought for a long time about getting the similar looking and priced JD-XA, but that is as far as it goes, looks only, anyway I was probably their first customer in the shop when I arrived just after 10.00 am and after chatting with Dave Gardner the Roland specialist I was left to my own devices for the next couple of hours where I played with the System 8 for over an hour and about half an hour on various other sysnths, but if anyone is thinking about getting the System 8 then I recommend trying it first, its brilliant and totally amazing to play and although I love the JD-XA this baby knows how to rock, and so when the day finally comes when I'll be able to afford buying such a synth then its going to be a tough decision whether to buy the JD-XA or the System 8 as they both sound so good, but they are different :-) Thank you gattobus for the cool demo :-) thank you to Red Dog Music in Edinburgh's Grassmarket area for putting up with me for so long and allowing me to come in randomly and to play your wonderful selection of keyboards and synthesizers :-) and thank you to Dave Gardner their resident Roland specialist at Red Dog Music in Edinburgh :-) Glen :-)
These sounds are just sublime. I have pondered over this synth for a long while. I know I should probably buy the Juno-X. It has a vast capacity that is missing from the 8; greater polyphony, better keybed, more keys, layering, etc. And yet, I still want the System 8 more than I want the Juno-X.
@@mac651000 Nice! What made you go for the System 8 in the end? Sound? Accessibility meaning all knobs & faders at your fingers? I guess I should be pretty satisfied with my Xm, and it comes close. I also have a JU-06A, but the System 8 with the Juno-60 model is very temping (more so than the Juno-106 model, and then the Jupiter 8 and maybe one of the 70s Roland models would be a feast). Which models are you using with your S8?
@@patsonmusic purely the sound. As an instrument it is pretty limited in capabilities compared with the newer Roland products. It just sings so sweetly 😊
@gattobus these sounds are AMAZING!! i've searched through the comments and each time someone asks if these sounds are for sale anywhere there isn't a response. Any reason? just curious as I'd love to purchase if they are.
I love this patch on the S8. It plays with emotion and expression. I love how you can get the dull and over-driven sounds just by your expression. Gattobus also has a feel in all of his playing that makes a huge difference. I would love to hear more using the S8 and JD-XA, but still love his albums :)
It's a great performance. I fell in love with the first performance and i could listen to it on repeat forever. You remind me very much of Vangelis and his style of programming/playing. I own an S8... I'm not going to ask you for your own personal patches.. I'm happy to 'Try' and make them myself. After all what is Music if you just 'Copy' someone else ?. Great demo. Thank you.
I realize they're sonically very similar, but gotta say I really luv yo sound design & playing on the JDxA far more. When I first got the JDxA the Jupiter-X was just being released n I felt ripped off that I'd spent nearly $2k for four-note polyphony only in the analog section (Prologue, DSI REV2, Novation Pulse or wahtever all have 8-16 at that pricepoint) but Ive come to cherish the 4note analog section because it's just soooooo fantastic-sounding. Idk if that lil edge it has over the digital emulations makes any difference at all in a mix, or at least to 99% of listeners, but it sure inspires me to make music.
Just throwing my hat in the ring and gonna ask if these can be made for purchase, shoot you should get with carmastudio or Roland and see if they want to purchase for the cloud, there are very little 3rd party patches for this awesome synth, I’d love to see what you did on them, great work
You are roland"s most valuable salesperson. Really.
I would rather give the 20% markup (over wholesale) to Gattobus if he would sell Roland direct, with synths preloaded with his patches and sequences.
um yes.
I love the System 8.
The System-8 is without question the best Jupiter/Juno imitator. I only wish they had released a 61 (or 76) key version with AT.
An 88 that doubles as a master controller would be wonderful!
Don't postpone joy - hook up an external keyboard!

Sounds fab - are you willing to share your performance / patches for us S8 owners ? (Fingers crossed 😀)
What an EPIC demo! And by far the best System 8 demo I've seen so far.

Nicely done!
My new "So how good is the System-8?" go-to video. Well done!
This demo is a pleasure to listen to, thanks!

Amazing sounds! :)
Really cool demo
Soooo awesome!!! Excellent talent! This machine was created for you, truly stunning ;-)
Love The Sounds Mate Good Job Keep It Up
Great sound, great demo. I think the SYSTEM-8's native mode provides new generation sounds. It is released from the curse of the vintage synthesizer.
Great performance and sound choice as usual good sir! Well done :D
Really nice sounds
"New edge'' is out of this world, congratulations man !!!
very good, great synth
great video
That Forever & Ever is beautiful :o What a great synth :)

Hi, nice to see that you share the patches with the others :) great value....
All I can say is YES! Sick patches
Sei il numero uno Gianni!!! ;)
Very nice programming Gattobus!
Awesome !
you make me want this synth so bad. damn.
Perseverance is cool!🔥
Excellent video. Really helps with my contemplation of getting a System 8. I hear some awesome Enya type things in there. Many Thanks!
Волшебные патчи!!! Уважаю!!! )
bravo gatto, bel groove
ALL sound AWESOME!!!
Nice!!!
Great !!
Man you killed the Tangerine Dream cover. Brb gotta watch Risky Business again.
not bad! i like your patches (above the clouds)
Lovely
Nice sounds. I can imagine incorporating all these sounds in trap/hip hop/futuristic beats.
dream machine
Wow... just... wow.
This SELLS the System-8. DAMN that gear lust came up pretty quick
All patches are brilliant, "Perseverance" was totally unexpected.
Красава!!! Браво!!
ammazza che belle patches :)
Holy shit Top Level A+
bravissimo😉😉😉😉
Yo! Are you planning on releasing any of this new material soon? I watch these videos very often, and you are putting out album quality music!
I have the Jupiter-Xm and still occasionally stumble upon great System-8 demos like this wondering why I don't get it already 😃
@@patsonmusic I now own a System 8 😊

Your demo has pushed me even closer to getting a System-8. Just a matter of financial planning now. May have to re-mortgage the house.

WOW!
You schould do movie-scores. This could easily fit into some high end sci-fi blockbuster!!! Especially "New Edge". Awesome!
You should do the music for Bladerunner 2.
Without critisizing Gattobus''s skills, filmscores are self written not replica's & that's where Vangelis comes in
Forever and ever performance really has that never ending story vibe going on ☺️
hello, your sounds are really beautiful !!! Congratulations ! Is it possible to buy your sound bank?
You inspired me ! Great Work !!! Make a video with a Roland JD-Xi... !! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina...!
i really love your patches, that sound really blow my mind, if sometime you consider on sell it, i would love to buy it, greetings!
Love that Neverending Story pad :)
And 6:50 -ish sounds like a new Kubo track. Love all these sounds.
This is great stuff! I could listen to "New Edge" (2:27 - 4:00) on a loop for hours! Thank you!
I love this patch on the S8. It plays with emotion and expression. I love how you can get the dull and over-driven sounds just by your expression. super sounds, go on.
can you play for jarre patches in a new video?

Great sounding patches! Probably the best I've heard the System-8 sound thus far. Is "Murder Bass" a reference to Mitch Murder by chance? :)
YomYestreen ...of course! ;-)

Looking forward to Jupiter X presets...maybe these can port pretty easily.
Sounds great! I love the System 8. Keep up the great videos. Take care, Sam.
wow
Is "Forever & Ever" a reference to the song "Never Ending Story" by Limahl?
Because it sounds like it!
