Science behind Navarna Mantra

  • In this discourse, Om Swami talks about the science behind the Navarna Mantra by explaining the right pronunciation of the seed syllables and the bindu (anusvara) together.
    There is a dot on many seed syllables. That dot is often pronounced as "Mh" or "Ang" both of which are wrong. If you look at the word "Ma", you don't say "Mang" or say "Mham" - you say just Ma. In the original Sanskrit script which used to be called the Brahmi script, there was the presence of two extra nasal sounds. One was called Chandrabindu ( drawn like a saucer and dot in the middle ), and another sound called "Gwang" ( drawn like a cup with two handles and a dot in the middle). Gradually, the "Gwang" sound got taken away and all sounds were represented by the Chandrabindu or the Bindu. Overtime the Devanagari script which is an adoption of the Brahmi script came into the picture. In the Devanagari script, two letters got added, one was "Gya" and the other was "Ksha". This is why in the south even till date, because these letters are not incorporated into the script and they pronounce it the way it is transliterated.

    "Whatever movements Indian gurus started in the last 150 years, regardless of whatever name they gave to their methods, were either a direct derivative of one of these streams or a mix of many. And then you, have mantra yoga which has also been the focus of many traditional masters well versed in the Vedas. Many traditions taught its followers the complete science around one mantra. Some of the new age ones define mantra yoga as the art of meditating on a sound. Mantra yoga, however, is way more than that. It’s an astoundingly deep science with its own framework." os.me/ancient-...

    Very nicely explained,
    If I can just add to what swamiji said, All such rules one can find in Sanskrit text called Paniniy Shiksha.(it is the Indian text on phonetics of Sanskrit),the science to utter letters, is called Shiksha I would specifically like to say that , it is in our Country,INDIA, that there is such a profound understannding of speech and how to speak, is thought in extreme detail. The science of Grammar of Sanskrit is so well maintained in Panini Ashtadhyayi, that today entire world appreciates its logic and its brilliance. Also which letter gets converted to which letter or how to handle the anuswar " the dot" , Panini Muni's Ashtadhyayi easily explains , it explains so well that there cannot remain any room for doubt.
    I am studying the Panini Sutras, they are extremely beautiful.
    Regarding what swamiji has explained, the Panini sutras are here .
    For anuswar:
    1. अनुस्वारस्य ययि परेसवर्णः।
    2. यरोऽनुनासिकेऽनुनासिको वा।
    3. मोऽनुस्वार ।

    • @Mrrr_Perrrfecttt
      @Mrrr_Perrrfecttt 3 роки тому

      The anushwar depends on the next syllabal of the word.... Example if I want to put anushwar on K in Kapi P will be checked... So it will be Kampi .. So whatever taught by Swamiji is not complete and hence it is to much difficult for one to choose correct anushwar ...for every letter every anushwar can be used.... K can have m too and n too....

    • @mayurgo10
      @mayurgo10 3 роки тому

      @@Mrrr_Perrrfecttt dear friend I have posted some rules in my reply please ,check those rules. If you know Panini Ashtadhyayi then you will understand the meaning otherwise you will have to keep thinking.

    • @Mrrr_Perrrfecttt
      @Mrrr_Perrrfecttt 3 роки тому +1

      @@mayurgo10 I am not thinking... My Sanskrit teacher who has won many prices in Sanskrit at state level has taught how to use 5 anushwars based on that I put a comment... I haven't study Panini's grammar but I am sure he also has put these thing in his grammar because it is common and basic thing but not known to many so they don't understand it...

    • @mayurgo10
      @mayurgo10 3 роки тому +1

      @@Mrrr_Perrrfecttt You can ask your teacher for the rules. Anything doubt in Sanskrit Grammar , refer Panini Ashtadhyayi, it is best source to refer. Because it sets the foundations of everything in the language.
      The rules what here swamiji has said are largely for क, च, ट, त,
      प, वर्ग letters.
      The reason people have confused it is because , people have not touched the Ashtadhyayi rules and tried to interpret on their own.. that's where guidance is lacking.
      You can ask your teacher, she will agree with the rules that are mentioned in the previous comments.
