We make our own media stations, our own game development studios and completely dump the ESG money grubbing greedy companies. The whole making-female-characters-ugly-to-fit-reality thing feels like companies are not only saying that women can't be beautiful, but that _this_ is how they see real women.

tbh just make em normal like their actors look. overly good looking characters in dire situations like in the game steller blade kind of less immersive as well. but i would definetly take that over these weird looking characters.
It's an odd thing to speak on. One the one hand, you're saying the companies are outing themselves saying they see real women as ugly and that women can't be beautiful. Then completely missing the irony that in doing so outs yourself by showing you don't find real women beautiful unless they are within the scopes you consider beautiful. Which also leaves one to understand, that maybe you believe your standards are fact while the whole beauty/hot/ugly thing is subjective to the core. Companies aren't saying "Women can't be beautiful.", they're saying we think this kind of woman is beautiful; the average, well kempt, natural human-looking woman, is beautiful.
There are 3 major reasons to skip that game entirely:
1. Ubisoft. Remember they told us we should get used to not owning our games. Add to that that it will be riddled with micro transactions.
2. “The message” doesn’t matter which umbrella it falls under whether it’s Sweet Baby Inc or Bridge, I disagree to pay to get spat in the face.
3. Disney will still make money from this and I am not ready to forget they sat on Sound of Freedom for years.
Japan is able to scan their actresses faces into games perfectly fine, so that argument is thrown out the window

Back in the PS1 era, Cid from FF8 was famous for looking very similar to Robin Williams. A polygonal character from 1999 can ressemble a real life actor, but games 25 years later can't? That's one of the most ridiculous excuses of the year so far.

In 1977 I went to the theater to see the opening day of Star Wars. As a life long far ... I will no longer support the franchise and that means I won't be sharing that love for it with my kids either, so they are losing multiple generations of fans. Nice work Disney.
Lara was never a tomb raider in the direct meaning of the term (guys who rob grave sites purely for personal monetary gain). She hunted after mythical artifacts that belonged to long-extinct civilizations (as in no one at the moment), and then either kept them safe if they were dangerous or gave them to museums if they were not. Rather, a large part of the games is her fighting actual tomb raiders who want to either use or sell the artifacts for personal power or enrichment.

I'm not an artist but I remember back in highschool I wanted to draw and do animation and my art teacher said I should go into anatomy to learn about body proportions and etc, so by my experience I can say these people are intentionally doing this.

There are numerous ways to filter out noise and to tone down how environmental changes and lighting affect a model without destroying the model itself. She was made ugly on purpose. Period.

Star Wars has been hijacked by petty women and they want to make it a female franchise which was originally a boys franchise.
It was a very, very successful IP. And as with all incredibly profitable properties it attracts people who couldn’t care less about what really made it successful, but only the smell of money.
Kind of like vampires with blood. And those without talent and actual passion will gradually bring more and more like them eventually kicking the actual creative force out.
And then those IPs eventually wither and die slowly - because you can’t fake soul, creativity and that sum of all of those small little details that someone who loves such concepts adds into it when making it, and that other people who love it as well can see and feel. And that is what brings them into those IPs. There is a connection there.
And again, like vampires (and abusers), when those IPs die they’ll try to make sure their own victims believe it was their fault (internal dev teams: didn’t work hard or good enough ; customers: are all bigots, racists, etc).
And as the IP/company goes through that slow death they will already have their next step to a different company ready, despite making motivational speeches for everyone on the production side to continue working completely under an illusion.
So when the blood is dried up, they pass on to the next victim. Now, for how long will this be economically speaking sustainable? I don’t know.. I think we are all feeling the effects in the west gradually.

As a 3d/cg artist that work on NSFW models on occasion. I find it extremely offensive that the Riot's guy excuse was "We're just incompetent."
All the more insulting, since he designed Leona, a fairly well-liked and quite attractive champion, and based her on his wife. Not to mention that he designed both Ahri, probably THE most popular champion design in the game (last I played it anyway) who is literally a sexy fox-woman with powers of seduction, and Sejuani, who notoriously was initially designed wearing bikini armor despite living in an arctic environment due to IronStylus not getting the memo before shipping her out.

As usual, great content and useful information. The AC Red info was gut wrenching being one of my favorite IPs and was really looking forward to the setting as 2nd only to Valhalla. Looks like it's time to finally finish a backlog of Steam games I never got around to playing.
I think it's hilarious that the original PS1 Tomb Raider games feature Lara Croft as a well spoken, multilingual millionaire who travels the world to learn more about ancient cultures. She quite literally preserves artifacts in her mansion, and that's not even getting into her adventures in the books. Her work is often the defining thing that history books need to either confirm or deny an old prophecy, whether an event actually happened or if it's just a story.
Hell, she gets Mjolnir and becomes Thora Croft. Do I need to say more on how awesome her old character was? Why can't we just backflip and shoot tigers in peace?

I'm still rockin' my starter ship (although I did upgrade it from the cheapest ship to the nomad at one point when it came out so i could always start out in the nomad when there was wipes). if I had the crazy ships from the get go, there wouldn't have been much to do in the game. I kind of think people who paid into star citizen ruined their fun experience xD That said they said not long ago they're essentially done with the game itself and they are just fixing things like janky ai interactions, and graphical areas that are boring etc. I know someone who worked there up until a few months ago and he takes his NDA pretty seriously but he did say they are a lot further along than people think, and that the game is way way ahead of star citizen right now. it seems like they are finally starting to add a lot of that s42 stuff into star citizen this year which is cool.

@@madprophetus these particular issues are more the cause of suits though, not really creatives (although certainly there are many assholes in such areas as well). The “creatives” here are basically brain washed and their good intentions played completely to serve a corporate investment scheme.

We play retro games because we AGREE, the new games are shit. The absolute newest game I have right now is BG3, I'm eyeing HellDivers 2. Other than that, I got a Retroid Pocket Flip loaded with old arcade games, an N64, PS2-PS5, PSP Go, PS Vita, GBA SP, 2DS XL, a Wii, and a Switch OLED. I'm a dragon, sleeping amongst a horde of games!!
The most played games of all are all at least 5+ years old, the vast majority of them far older than that. These new games are made for absolutely nobody.

I make videogame characters too, and I can tell you that making a woman's face sharper because of the light etc. etc. is BS, what about Eve for Stellar Blade or the old Harley Queen and poison Evy? Certain polygon is not been used due to the light refraction in certain areas, but use that as an excuse for emasculating a woman or a mesh character that is incompetent, and has no idea how to model. Today you just need to make a good UV cut to just copy and paste an image of the model to have the character ready, then I don't think Ubisoft today make a low poly game for £130. Now we know why Ubisoft fired 900 people recently

Anyone who's spent seventeen hours minutely adjusting the eighty thousand sliders in the character creation screen knows that developers can make a character look like a model. Who were they trying to convince? Production companies saying they can't accurately recreate a face in game is an insane argument to make to your gamer audience calling you out. More insane is that people have to find and compile examples of good static face models in games to make them stop.
What’s crazy is Star Wars arguably has some of the most deep and complex lore in any franchise.
It shouldn’t be this hard to make a decent game when you have the most dedicated fanbase of all time and limitless source material.

The argument that they make about "technology is hard" is sad and pathetic at this point. We all know that if a single modder will be able to change how she looks in the game, to something more appealing to the "male gaze", it's gonna be removed instantly.
Like we see it happening in other games. There is always a excuse why it can't be changed. When i play a game as a male of female character, i want them to be attractive. If they wanna create ugly models for a specific audience(that does not even support them or play video games), then go for it. But stop forcing me to play as this shit.
