Jim Morrison was drunk while recording the vocal. His vocal brings the chaos, dirty, gritty sound to the this dread sound. There will never be a band like The Doors and there will never be a singer like Jim Morrison.
Jim Morrisons short life was like a fabulous yellow roman candle exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle there's a blue center light that POPS and everyone goes aawww!!!
"Not to touch the earth" is another unique very interesting song from this album "Waiting for the Sun" also.. Hardly anyone on youtube ever reacts to it, but when they do they are like FANTASTIC AND WILD!!
The Doors had no bassist but they used studio musicians on several songs. I’ve had a copy of this album in all formats from vinyl to cd. First heard it was when I was 14. Thanks.
The Doors were in a class all to themselves. No one has come close to replicating what they accomplished in the studio. An incredibly talented group of musicians putting out great music.
"Five to one baby, one in five, no one here gets out alive". That's how you start a song with meaning. As far as a Doors song that is a little "different", and I don't think any other reactor has done, how about "The Unknown Soldier", the live version from The Hollywood Bowl concert. It is VERY intense, and unlike most of The Doors songs. Jim is in a world of his own during this "song".
After his death the Doors took some recordings of him just sitting in a studio talking and reading his poetry and added a soundtrack to it. American Prayer. Great Album. For some reason they re- released it years later with a serious crap song tagged onto the end
jan van impe the "dreamy" side of the Doors : -yes,the river knows -indian summer -blue sunday the "heavy" side of the Doors : - (live) who do you love -you make me real
Or Maybe the number of protesters at the 68 Democrat convention in Chicago cops (Guns) Protesters (Numbers) . Howeve I have also heard it was the numbers in Viet Nam.
Or your chances of surviving in Vietnam. Or the ratio of youth to adults at the time. Or a random sports stat Jim saw in a newspaper. There's no actual official explanation. I think it's better that way.
Still a great song Biz, and an excellent reaction, but this is one of the terrible Doors digital remasters, similar to the digital molestations of "Break On Through" and "When The Music's Over". Sad for such fantastic records.
"Five To One" is one of the songs that had the cops all worked up about the threat The Doors supposedly posed to the country because they thought Morrison was calling for a revolution -- five young people for every one old person and the young people were taking over even if the old people had the guns. Remember the sixties were a time of protests, unrest, assassinations, and riots. The Boomers today wanna take over still, it seems, except they appear to have lost their marbles when it comes to preserving freedom and liberty by defending democracy. They might have gotten too high on the supply of Cold War propaganda that pitted democracy against communism rather than capitalism against communism and then forgot that capitalism is not democracy. As for the rest, Elon Musk? The Doors were nothing like Elon Musk. The Doors operated as a collective and Musk operates as a union buster. So that comparison is more of an insult than high praise when you get down to it. Musk should go back to making cars and launching rockets and leave the twitter and the politics and the idiotic conspiracy theories alone.
The Doors are my favourite band, I was born a little too late though. Jim died 7 years before I was born.
Spanish Caravan is a great Doors song often overlooked. I highly recommend.

Written during revolutionary times in America.

Kiss borrowed the guitar solo from this tune for their song "She". And then Pearl Jam borrowed the Kiss solo for the solo in the song Alive.

"Five to one" is the ratio of white people to black people in the U.S. in the 1960s. It is a song of revolution.
