Was not expecting a second game after that! Crazy how the duality of cEDH results in some games that are over in 5 minutes and some that take hours lol
The more I see Abdel played as a value engine in conjunction with a background the more it continues to astound me. I play it in Burakos/Folk Hero and it’s the win con with Animate Dead and man I love more reliable world gorger dragon 🐉
Commmander is hard af to keep track of lol. He should die after the triggered ability of city of brass resolves. Which should be prior to offer resolving unless someone responds to the city trigger further.
I understand why you don't want the Peer to resolve, it would have been game ending, but his Deflecting Swat on 1 life makes that a King Making situation which I don't like, because he can't target himself without dying. Spite plays are rule breaking in Cedh. The only reasonable with that is only if he tries to bait out a counterspell from Mike in order for another player to then resolve a counterspell of his own. Still very good content as always, and your storytelling voice is superb for this. Keep up the good work!
Hey @PlayingwithPowerMTG! The Tymna/Kraum list in the description is the Abdel-Candlekeep list! Just looking to check out the list when you have a moment :)
What was Shaun's plan when using Deflecting Swat on the Peer while being at 1 life? He can't target himself otherwise he'd die, and targetting anyone else could become kingmaking.
When the kitten got hit with Delay around 10:05, could Phillip not have used cloudshift in response, targeting kitten, activating kitten which targets abdel? He'd do what he was going to anyway but without kitten getting countered. I'm asking because I assume I'm being stupid and missing something obvious
How does the abdel deck draw it's library when it's ready to win? I don't see any other flicker creatures like felidar guardian/fiend Hunter/restoration angel to cause an infinite loop in the deck list?
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG I guess I'm stupid, doesn't he still need to be blinked infinitely to trigger that enchantment multiple times in the same turn? I was asking what the infinite blink combo was because the only other blink creature I saw is displacer kitten which requires casting spells.
I think you missed a step there with the last finale since it doesn’t give trample and you didn’t say he casts all his creatures I believes but effectively he won
Ohhh that's what happened, I was trying to figure it out since all had blockers and none of his creatures had trample, but this comment made me realize he had drawn his whole deck/had infinite mana
not really sure what Shaun was trying to do Deflecting the Peer,; sure giving it to Philip might have been a bit better but it still feels like he was kingmaking there (being unable to Deflecting it to himself since he was at 1 life, dying from the Peer)
Kingmaking is not really a thing in cEDH. It's a game theory thing as P said. You can lose now or you can most likely lose later. The correct play in these scenarios for the guy going for the win is to not go for it if they aren't confident they can defend it.
@@yorionenthusiast170 I couldn't disagree more you can absolutely go for the win even if you have no way of defending it (maybe you think your opponents are out of counter magic, etc) If I had been Shaun here, I just wouldn't have cast the Swat since I would've been choosing who would win there
Shaun here. You are indeed correct. We recorded this game a few months ago, so I don't remember exactly what happened here. I should start my final turn at 4 life, because my life only went from 21 to 18 in the video when I got hit by Abdel when it should have gone to 17. So, we could have messed up life totals and missed that I couldn't tap the CoB on my last turn without dying. Or, I ended up keeping one less Sylvan Library card somewhere along the way than was stated in the video. No way to know for sure at this point. It ended up not mattering either way.
@@spielrahoo at least it didn’t matter. I wonder how many channels like this get into editing and like 20 percent of the videos can’t be used because we are not perfect 😂

Don't really understand why Shaun tried so hard to deflect the peer. If he targets himself, he dies. If he targets anyone else he's probably kingmaking. Or am I missing something?
After Veil of Summer resolved Swat was the only thing that could've stopped the Peer. Before Veil was cast he tried to counter Peer directly with Force of Negation rather than what was going to counter Swat, meaning he knew it would be better if no one got to Peer
Where do you get your Proxies? forgive me if I have missed if you said it already. I also might just cut out pieces of paper and just write what I want on them lol
Since shaun had three creatures to see the finale, and each opponent had a blocker, and finale doesnt give trample, why was that GG right there?couldnt everyone just chump the creatures and move to the next turn?

Yeah that first game was really fun to play, I unfortunately didn't draw my free interaction until after the silence resolved

Right on
Glad to see Abdel/Candlekeep, I love those two together :)
That stack against Mike for the peer is exactly why I love cEDH! Interaction to the max!!
12:39 city of brass doesn't killed Shaun??
Shhhhh!! That was a fun stack fight to watch.
That first game was fire. I really enjoyed all the interaction and responses players had to spells and triggers OTS
when Shaun casts Force of Negation, he taps his city of brass while at 1 life. Would he not just die here?
He actually should've died before that, he missed multiple "deals 1 damage" off City

Both leave, and enter the battlefield triggers

Correct, a step was missed. Cast all creatures, then finale, then swing. Also have cyclonic rift in deck so can overload that and then swing.

Doesnt Abdel enter the battlefield before the cards he exiled? Because ephemerate has to resolve fully before anything else is put on the stack
Nope, the cards return during the resolution of Ephemerate. The triggers are put on the stack after is has finished resolving.
The cards exiled with Abdel return immediately because that's not a trigger, it's an effect's duration expiring.
