    I for sure thought you were going to find those paw sequin pieces and put those in the shaker! Love this with the sweet photo of the furbabies.

    The fuse tool works better with a mat underneath, like the back of a self-healing cutting mat

  • @JennieGarciaN

    I use a piece of cardboard (USPS envelopes), let it heat up for 10 minutes to make sure is really hot, then I go slow, but not too slow and I push down really hard. I think the wood was slowing and halting the Fuse making it break. I loooove my Fuse and I can’t wait to try this!

    For me, using the fuse on a silicone mat works better than on a hard surface. Love this page!

      This is what I do too. 😊I have the WRMK silicon mat they make to go with the fuse tool so it doesn’t cut up the plastic too much during the fuse process.

    my fuse tips include: making sure it's very hot, use a metal ruler, pull it along with a steady slow motion with pressure

  • @NancyFrusco
    @NancyFrusco 9 місяців тому +3

    I find using the metal ruler helps because it holds the material down when you are fusing.

    I really want a heat resistant/silicone mat with a grid for the fuse tool. I use my self healing cutting mat - I don't really use it for anything else, got it on sale, but it has a grid. I tape down the protector and use a metal ruler and tape that down too. Then - concentrate on going at an even pace. When you stop/slow down or speed up it gets inconsistent. But taping everything down so it doesn't slide around and having a mat has made all the difference with the fuse tool. But... it does damage a self healing mat a bit and over time it will destroy it, silicone/heat tolerant would be better.
    It's a great way to showcase Christmas cards that are 3D. I make a pocket for them on top, and put a photo of what the card looks like open underneath. You can pull out the card or just enjoy the photo of it.
    One more thing - in a pinch - I've used chipboard under it before, that also works for a smooth/clean surface.

    I sometimes struggle with the fuse tool as well. What I have learned over time is it has to be really hot and I push the wheel away from me instead of dragging it towards me (hope that makes sense).

    I have always had trouble with my fuse tool. User error?! Ali you are soooooo patient! I am sorry, but when you said "do you see that?!" I had to giggle. You are a real trooper to take the time to actually reopen it to remove the tape! Loving these stories. Hugs from Texas.

    Here is a fuse tool hint...I use the included ruler when I use it. I also use my craft mat for cushioning. That works better than a hard surface. I like the way you used the stitching. Funny about the red line tape! That red plastic sticks to everything!

    I absolutely love this!
    I have also run into the same fuse tool issues when encasing “thicker”elements. I believe it’s because the thickness forces the two sheets apart which causes snagging and rips. This can be avoided by giving it a wider berth and not going so close to the edge of the element- but of course this can also have its own downsides.
    I’ve also heard that snagging on the tool can be a result of it being a bit dirty / the melted plastic sticking to the cog.
    Thank you for always sharing your crafty adventures with us! Your December dailies inspire me to be more creative with my pocket page scrapping!

    I struggle with the fuse tool also; I think it’s just the way it is lol. I’ve learned to embrace the “awol sequins” and glitter that escape the plastic 😅 in my DD album. This OCD diagnosed crafter thanks you for removing the red line tape- even tho it was hilarious. Those word phrase stickers were fitting not only for the photo and the story of your fur babies, but also for the whole experience creating that 4 pocket! TYFS!

    Loved this video for more than one reason! 😂 👌🏻 Also, I find my fusing to work best when I use the metal mat from my silhouette
    /foil quill in combination with the metal ruler. That makes the fuse tool roll more evenly and another plus is that it has the grid if you need straight lines. I also have a request, should you find out how to foil and cut on your Cameo4, please share. For me foiling does not work without the metal mat. But that you can’t cut on. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Dilemmas of the scrapbooking world. 😂

    • @AliEdwardsDesignInc
      @AliEdwardsDesignInc  9 місяців тому +1

      I will try that! I did successfully use the foil quill and then just removed the metal mat before cutting (carefully lining it back up again - I made a mark on the top of my paper so I knew where to put it back again after removing the metal plate).

    Fuse tool is my nemesis! Really hard to get a consistent line. The wheel often gets stuck. I find using a metal ruler does help and to watch the wheel so you can see when it stops turning.

      SAME HERE! I find that if I push it rather than pull it, it works better....or maybe it's vice-versa, but try the opposite of your regular way and maybe, just maybe that will help.

Today I hadn't taken my pics yet when I saw a glimpse of your page on the UA-cam thumbnail so when we went to dinner with friends, I got two landscape photos - one of us and one of our friends (a couple). I don't have that transparency but I can do a clear one and the shaker 4. I think I will try my hand at the Fuse and see how it goes! Thanks for working out the kinks for us!!!

    love the experimenting and great result ali :) re: fuse tool, I use mine all the time to create custom pockets and agree with the other tips here (personally I use a glass desk with cardstock on top/in between) - I think the smooth surface is key to the roller not stopping or jumping. the only advice I would add is that I always use the metal ruler because when the tool is heated up, the *side* of the fuse tool that sticks out (the metal screw type part etc) can easily brush the plastic inadvertently - especially on bulkier pockets or flip ups which raises the side plastic. and since the whole thing is smoking hot, the side of the tool can create (melt) a slit or leave other unwanted mark. like - the ruler isn’t just there to keep the line straight, it also acts as a barrier to protect the plastic on either side of the line against the tool. hope that makes sense, that’s my guess as to what you were running into. that or it’s too hot (but that usually shows up as holes in the perforated line itself). it’s a fussy yet amazing tool, but it changed the game for me, so I encourage everyone keep experimenting - it’s worth it! 😁
