@@melkin3549 If there is a tiny grain of truth in her claim then my best guess is that perhaps there are keys to Nottingham Cottage and that, for security reasons, they cannot leave Palace grounds. It makes sense that the Kensington royals would want to lock their own apartment doors to ensure other royals or staff can't just trot in 24/7, but it also makes total sense that they can't pop those keys into their bags or pockets and risk losing them while they're either attending an event, socialising or just going out. The security risk would be paramount but there would also be a cost to the taxpayer should there be any breaches. Ditto the passports. I doubt the Royals pop them in the living room cabinet drawer. Passports are documents and so likely kept under tight security. Besides which, has anyone ever seen a royal in their local travel agent, waiting for a visa stamp or in the queue at border control? Actually, at one point, William and Catherine had an apartment at Kensington Palace. Meghan was jealous that it was so much more lavish than Nottingham Cottage. So the plan was for Harry and Meghan to also have an apartment at Kensington, but then the falling out started, Meghan and Harry refused to live that close to William and Catherine, so the Queen gifted them Frogmore, even though Meghan wanted to live in Windsor Castle.
I think that's also one of the reasons that she turned spiteful, she wanted a castle to live in, I mean look at their house in Montecito, that's what she wanted, prestige, but they got stuck with a cottage, in her mind not good enough.

@@melkin3549 If there is a tiny grain of truth in her claim then my best guess is that perhaps there are keys to Nottingham Cottage and that, for security reasons, they cannot leave Palace grounds.
It makes sense that the Kensington royals would want to lock their own apartment doors to ensure other royals or staff can't just trot in 24/7, but it also makes total sense that they can't pop those keys into their bags or pockets and risk losing them while they're either attending an event, socialising or just going out. The security risk would be paramount but there would also be a cost to the taxpayer should there be any breaches.
Ditto the passports. I doubt the Royals pop them in the living room cabinet drawer. Passports are documents and so likely kept under tight security. Besides which, has anyone ever seen a royal in their local travel agent, waiting for a visa stamp or in the queue at border control? Obviously not, because staff do all of that for them and so have to be able to access their passports.
